CMAS/PARCC: TESTING SEASON IS COMING SOON CMAS (Colorado Measures of Academic Success) is the new testing system taking the place of CSAP/TCAP. It’s the testing of science and social sciences primarily, but it can also refer to the testing as a whole. PARCC (Partnership for Assessment of Readiness for College and Careers) is geared specifically towards measuring literacy and math. Testing will begin in March with PARCC. Your Friday Folders contain a letter to you from Mr. Rahn as well as more information about this testing. We are excited for scholars to show all they have learned this year!
CORRECTION - ROUND TWO OF CHOICE BEGINS MARCH 16TH We apologize, but the second round of Choice actually starts on March 16th not the 2nd like we’d originally thought. We will have the second round applications ready for you on the 16th. Please call the office if you have any questions.
ASHLEY PARENT ORGANIZATION MEETING The next APO meeting is scheduled for Friday, March 20th. Mark your calendars and plan to come and be involved in the events of your child’s school! This month the topics on the agenda include the spring dance, possible fundraisers, and planning for a guest speaker. We might also start planning for Field Day! Please contact Edith Zapata with any questions.
ASHLEY FAMILY HEALTH AND EXERCISE EVENT There are two upcoming Health and Exercise Family events! The first event is on Saturday, March 21st from 10am-11:30am, free lunch included. The second event is on Thursday, March 24th, from 6:00pm-7:30pm free dinner included. A representative from Denver Parks and Recreation will be present to help out and teach us some fun and useful information.
COLORADO SYMPHONY ORCHESTRA The Symphony generously donated a large quantity of ticket vouchers for free tickets to the symphony! We still have approximately 50 vouchers left, so if you want to attend the symphony for free, contact Edith Zapata. The remaining events for which you can use your vouchers are listed here: So Percussion (March 20-21), Magic Circle Mime Co. presents Peter & the Wolf (March 22nd), World Premiere: William Hill’s The Raven (March 27-28), Victor Wooten’s Concerto for Electric Bass (May 9-10), and Bobby McFerrin Sings and Conducts Gershwin (May 16). Please know that except for Peter & the Wolf, which is for all ages, these concerts are for children 12yrs and older.
FAMILY HEALTH & EXERCISE EVENT
Next Saturday, March 21st, there will be a health and exercise event for the whole family. Everyone is invited to this fun event hosted by
Summer Scholars. Start time is 10am, and the event will end by
11:30am. Lunch is included!
HONOR ROLL BREAKFAST Now that we have completed more than 1/3 of the school year, we need to celebrate those scholars on the honor roll! Letters will be going home late next week to those students who are invited to attend a catered breakfast where they will receive a certificate as recognition for their accomplishments! Our breakfast will occur on Friday March 20th from 7:15AM-8:00! Stay tuned for more details.
WINTER COATS We have a limited supply of winter coats to give away. If your family is in need of winter coats, please contact Edith Zapata.
