They arrive in Covington, Wednesday, March 30, for a two week visit. Their schedule will include a trip to Oklahoma City for a Russia Initiative Conference to be held April 6-9. They will be at both worship services on Sundays, April 3 and April 10. Pastor Pak will be our guest preacher on April 3rd. Hopefully, you will get to meet and greet both them during this time. Please include them in your prayers for a safe journey. On Tuesday, March 8, the Covington Exchange Club awarded Daniel Flanagan “Youth of the Year”. He received a $100 Savings Bond and will compete in the Tennessee State Exchange Club contest. Winner of the state contest wins an education scholarship. Daniel is the son of Bill and Liz Flanagan, and the grandson of Eddie and Carol Daniel. Daniel’s home address is 968 Highway 54 East, Covington, 38019. Daniel has two siblings, Molly and Thomas.

UMCOR, the humanitarian relief and development agency of The United Methodist Church, is working through relief and church partners in Japan to respond to and provide immediate assistance and long-term rehabilitation. With

these partners, UMCOR is meeting the most basic humanitarian needs in northern Japan such as providing clean drinking water, food, cooking and eating supplies, clothing, and fuel for heating. At the time of the earthquake and tsunami, the United Methodist Board of Global Ministries had nine missionaries in Japan along with a number of individual volunteers-in-mission, and this group has responded to those in need. Current contributions to UMCOR from Covington FUMC netted $525.00 for the victims of the Japanese tragedy.

Compassion International is an evangelical Christian child development ministry dedicated to the needs of children around the world. Founded in 1952, Compassion International began by providing Korean War orphans with food, shelter,

education, health care, and Christian training. Today, Compassion International helps more than 1 million children in 26 countries. All Compassion’s programs are rooted in Christian child development and child advocacy. Sunday, April 10, is Compassion Sunday, intended to draw the attention of the Church to the needs of the world’s poorest children. If you choose to sponsor a child for $38 a month, you will begin to build a relationship with the child by sending and receiving letters, seeing photographs of the child and learning the child’s progress and well-being.
