The band we have chosen to use is Weezer. We feel that

Weezer are a very conventional rock band but carry some

genre-challenging elements when it comes to their videos.

This can be seen in the song Buddy Holly where the band

re-enacts a scene in happy days (Synergy) and the song

we‟ve chosen Undone – The Sweater Song, where the

entire video has been done in one shot. This gives us the

opportunity to create a digipak for a very-conventional band

which also allows us to experiment and be creative with the

video itself.

Our average target audience member is a male teenager, between the ages of 16 and 19 as this was the average age given by people who answered our survey. They are fans of alternative, indie and rock music, as these genres are all fairly similar and were the genres that the most amounts of people who took the survey said they liked. Of the people we surveyed, most people answered that they watch 0-4 music videos a week, so our average audience member would not be a person who watches loads of music videos, but when they do they do not mind whether or not a music video has a storyline. They do not like music videos to outlast the length of the song, and they like music videos to have comical and humorous aspects, as well as video of live performance of the song. From the survey responses it would appear that our average target audience member would be interested in watching a music video if there was something unique or special about it that would appeal to them. Examples of bands that they listen to are Weezer and Radiohead.

Begins with the drummer sat alone, throughout the instrumental intro to the song the band set up their instruments.

Throughout the song we see the band at different stages in their careers.

There are 4 sets:

• 1. The garage

• 2. A recording studio

• 3. Green screen TV show room

• 4. On stage, live performance

Our music video shows a band‟s rise to fame. It begins with a band performing their song in a garage. One long smooth shot twists around the band as they perform. We then cut to the studio, where the band is recording their song – one of them is playing the guitar and the others are at the mixing desk. Next we see them having their pictures taken up against a brick wall, fast editing shows them in different poses. After the photo shoot they are shown preparing to go on a chat show called “Rockstar Hour”, when they go on there is a montage of different TVs being turned on and tuned in to the interview. Finally we see them performing the last part of their song at a live venue. When the song ends they walk off camera in the garage which shows that the video was just a distant dream of fame which every garage band seeks.

The idea works because we are combining conventional,

genre-specific elements with some unconventional ones

which gives the typical Weezer finish to our promotional

package. We have kept the typical photo-shoot album

cover and live performance of the band, but like the generic

video Weezer releases, it does contain subtle „humorous‟

aspects in the music video too. We have chosen to follow

the style of Weezer‟s promotional package as a standard

because it seems they use it as a guideline for each video

and album, making it only seem a true Weezer product if

we abide by their conventions.
