Mary SkeltonOn Dec. 4, 2019, the VFW Auxiliary held a Christmas
party for 22 Peak Community Service clients and five helpers at Winamac Post 1728. The clients visited at 10:30 a.m. and were greeted by three auxiliary members before heading out to get their beverages before lunch. They proceeded back into the hall and were served a luncheon of Grillers, french fries, fruit cocktail, cookies and ice cream.
After lunch they played a little toss the ball in the basket and received tattoos while Christmas music played in the hall. Beth Sutton Cummins, ventriloquist, then put on a delightful show for them with her Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer and Mrs. Claus dolls. Many of the clients sang along with her. She was a joy to watch and listen to for sure. Soon there was an amazing entrance by Santa Claus. The clients love him dearly and each and every one proclaimed they had been good this year.
They went to sit by Santa individually and opened their gifts of a sweatshirt with their name on and a stuffed animal. A gift of new videos was given to the center also for them to enjoy later.
It is such a joy to have this party every year and the clients look forward to it. This tradition was started more than 30 years ago by one of the auxiliary charter members
––––––– VFW Auxiliary hosts Christmas party for Peak Community Service –––––––Clara Roudebush. It is an honor to continue this not only for the clients but in her memory also. So until next year have a fabulous 2020.
