To explain Israel’s beginning and purpose in the establishment of God’s rule on earth.

Genesis – The Structure

Genesis is divided by markers in different sections, each highlighted by a certain Hebrew word.

This word can be translated with the phrase,“What became of…”

Genesis – The Structure – 2:4-4:26

The last section dealt with “What ever became of the heavens and the

earth?”


This section deals with “What ever became of Adam?”


We have seen that, in spite of sin, mankind made progress and prospered.


So, what was the big deal with the curse?


The answer: People die.

Genesis 3Lucifer has already become the Devil and Satan.

As mankind descends into evil, other fallen angels cross a line they should not have.

The pre-flood people lived longer lives.


An Early Breaking Point – Gen. 5:1-5

The account now goes back and picks up God’s original intent with humanity and what became of

Adam.


Seth carries on the image of God from Adam.

Children can reproduce the qualities and capacities of their parents.


Notice the repetition of the phrase, “and he died”.Verses 5, 8, 11, 14, 17, 20, 27, 31

“…and thus death spread to all men, because all sinned…”

Romans 5:12b


This is not said of Enoch.

He walked with God (fellowshipped and obeyed Him) and God took him.

Heb. 11:5-6

1. Jesus speaks of angels “of God in heaven”.• Jude 6 – they did not keep “their proper

domain but left their own habitation”• Jude 7 – Sodom and Gomorrah “in a similar

manner to these (angels)…given…to…sexual immorality …gone after strange flesh…”

An Early Breaking Point – Matt. 22:30

1. Jesus speaks of angels “in heaven”.• 2 Pet. 2:4 – “the angels who sinned” How?2. He does not say they can’t procreate, only that they neither marry nor are given in marriage, like angels of God in heaven.


More on that later…either way, we know demonic influences impact nations.

Ez. 28:11-19; Dan. 10:13

An Early Breaking Point – Gen. 6:3

“Contend with” probably better tr. “shield”.


Though judgment would fall, God graciously gives time for salvation to Noah and his family.


He had no children yet when this was decided, but 25 years later, when he was 500, Noah had his

first.

Talk about your patient biological clock!


After the flood, it was unusual for someone to have their first at 90!


The giants found both before and after the flood were not, as pagan religion teaches, the product of

angelic interaction, but reflected an added wickedness to the world and yet another reason

for the flood.


Every inclination (“plan”) of man’s heart was wicked continually and God had to act.


God’s creative intent had brought about man with divine “design”, man’s creative activity had given

way completely to evil.


The situation brought God pain and sadness over His wonderful creation.


Into this tragedy comes the first occurrence of the word “grace”.

An Early Breaking Point – 2 Pet. 2:1-3

False teachers come into the church and lead some believers astray.

But, they will be judged for it.


If, like Lot, we are bothered by the ungodliness of the false teachers or of the world around us, we

can know that this will not last forever.


God knows how to judge!

God knows how to deliver!


If God sent judgment on the angels who intermarried with human women, And if He judged the world of Noah’s day,

If He also overthrew Sodom and Gomorrah, And if He delivered righteous Lot,


"then the Lord knows how to deliver the godly out of temptations.“

(“temptations” = “trial” or “testing”)


Lot and Noah were rescued from the devastation that fell on the world.

God knows how to rescue the godly from catastrophic disaster!


This is exactly what He will do at the rapture of the Church!


But rescuing is not the only thing God knows how to do...


God also knows how to deal with the ungodly!


Peter deals with two key doctrines of the Church...


First, there will come, finally, a day of judgment for all sinful creatures,

whether angels, demons, or men.


Those who are in an intermediate state and are awaiting that day of judgment do so while

undergoing punishment.


They are not in "soul sleep“, but have been undergoing their judgment for thousands of years.


After all of this time, they are awaiting the "day of judgment".



Any modern ideas that judgment is temporary or that we should envy sinners is ridiculous!


God knows how to judge!

God knows how to deliver!

And we should stay faithful!
