10-12. Before the school starts

A student has to be able to: 1. Tell people when he/she wants to go to toilette, feels pain,

or is sick. 2. Use the toilette and wash hands afterwards. 3. Get along and play with friends. 4. Pay attention to what teachers and other people are saying. 5. Read and write his/her own name. 6. Say home address and phone number. 7. Finish a meal in 20 min. 8. Distinguish right from left. 9. Handle his/her belongings neatly. 10.Sit on a chair properly. 11.Use crayons and scissors.

When coming to school: 1. Wear casual clothing (except for special occasions such as ceremonies)

2. Wear a nametag (to be provided from the school)

3. Keep the “Randoseru” cover on for the 1st year 4. Try to arrive at school by 8am To Parents: 1. Read all letters that your child brings home 2. Inform the teacher when your child misses the school 3. Do not drive into school property in the morning. Drop off

at the back gate. Please see map on the slide Useful info(2)

First graders need to keep the randoseru cover on for their safety.

PE hat with string 9. A bag for PE uniform (less than 40cm in height; to be hanged on the side of the desk) 10. Toothbrush, Toothpaste, and a plastic cup 11. Rainwear for lower grades, umbrella for upper grades (Prepare as needed) 12. Scissors/A skipping rope (To be informed by teacher when needed.) Write down the student’s name in Hiragana and grade-class on every single material.

1. Randoseru Available at major department stores. (JUSCO e.t.c) Black and blue-ish colors are recommended for boys. Red-ish colors and pink are recommended for girls.

6. Indoor shoes with a bag Available at major department stores. (San-A Ishikawa e.t.c) Base color has to be white. Style varieties accepted.

7. PE uniform White shirt & Green shorts, at Onna elementary school Available at the store “LifePoint” by the school (see map on slide #13) If the store does not carry the right size, you can place an order.

8. PE hat with string Red&White reversible Available at the store “LifePoint” by the school (see map on slide #13)

9. A bag for PE uniform Less than 40cm in height; to be hanged on the side of the desk. Typically available at sport goods stores, but any kinds are accepted.

20-24. School lunch

School lunch is not just about providing nutritious meals. As part of the education, it will develop students’ healthy physical and mental conditions. School lunch aims to help the students overcome picky eating, learn proper table manners, and develop social skills by enjoying meals with the classmates. • Parents are encouraged to educate the children to appreciate all kinds of food at home. • All students take turns to prepare, serve, and clean up. • Lunch time is 45 min. long, which includes preparation and clean-up. Actual eating time is

about 20 min. • Manners: 1. Wash hands before lunch 2. Say “Itadakimasu” when start to eat and “Gochiso-sama deshita” when done. (Both mean “Thank for the food”). 3. Sit properly 4. Hold chopsticks and spoons properly 5. Do not talk when food in the mouth 6. Try not to leave the table in the middle of meal • Students have to be able to peel a cut piece of orange, and shell of a boiled egg, and a little

plastic sachet.
