Kimmel Center Cultural Campus
Dear friends,
Welcome to the Kimmel Center Cultural Campus, a non-profit performing arts organization that includes the Kimmel Center for the Performing Arts, Academy of Music, and Merriam Theater. Our mission is to engage the region’s diverse communities with art through performance and education, and we are thankful for generous supporters, funding our vision to transform lives daily through the arts every single day!
With a goal to expand 10-fold, educating, engaging, and inspiring 100,000 students per year by the fifth year of the plan, our Education Strategic Plan for Growth program focuses on jazz, musical theater, and technology, providing a wide range of hands-on, in-depth experiences. March is Music in our Schools month—and we encourage any teacher, parent, or student to visit us at www.kimmelcenter.org to learn more about our exciting in-school learning opportunities.
This spring, our programming features strong women who inspire us with their passion for arts and culture, including: Broadway’s Kristin Chenoweth (March 13) and Audra McDonald (April 11); Egyptologist Kara Cooney with National Geographic Live’s When Women Ruled the World (March 18); former Kimmel Center Theater Resident Deb Margolin and her work, TWO BLUES: Two Plays (April 2–5); comedian Paula Poundstone (March 7); rising jazz stars Jazzmeia Horn (March 14), Joanna Pascale (April 25), and Bria Skonberg; plus The Second City comedy troupe’s all-female She the People (April 9–11). 2020 is the U.S.’ 100th anniversary of women’s right to vote—and we are thrilled to be part of Philadelphia’s celebration, hosting Vision 2020’s FREE (and interactive!) 3D exhibition “Seat at the Table” in the Commonwealth Plaza (March–September).
April is Jazz Appreciation Month—did you know we support the creation of NEW jazz all season long through our Jazz Residency? Now in its 7th season, three teams of local musicians and writers are exploring the juxtaposition of Philadelphia against issues of homelessness, cultural identity, and neighborhood diversity. 16 world premieres have resulted from this program, and YOU can be part of this residency in April, through FREE & BYOB work-in-progress concerts—happening April 9, 11, and 17 in our black box SEI Innovation Studio.
Want the latest news on presales, shows, FREE events, and more? It’s as easy as following us on social media!
Warmly,
