RADIATING HAPPINESS
Our radiation therapy team were celebrating National Radiographers and Radiation Therapists Week with week with free
cupcakes for patients and a cake stall in Hospital Street. The cupcakes had helpful radiotherapy facts stuck in them, and
even the jelly was colour-coordinated! World Radiotherapy is November 8.

WINNERS CIRCLE
PUMPKIN HOUR
YES WE CAN: Our junior builders at the Mount Druitt
Hospital Child Care Centre have a front row seat for the
construction of the new community dialysis centre. Young
Josh, pictured here with child care centre staffer Amber,
was checking out the site works this week and had his
dumptruck ready to lend a hand.
Meanwhile, if you’re at Mount Druitt, drop in to the
volunteers desk in the main entry. Patricia (pictured
below) and the team have the latest information about
Stage 2, or you can visit our website.
WALKING TALL: Congrats to Marie March & Gen
Langron from our physio team who walked away with a
Lyn March award for Excellence and the ACI
Muscoloskeletal Network Forum this week for Best Free
Paper.
CLEAN SWEEP: We
hope you had a great
Halloween on
Monday. If you
missed our witchy
video, you can see it
on Facebook.
Meanwhile, Nathan
was left cleaning up
the Halloween afters.
Good thing our
witches left him a
broom (unfortunately
not a Nimbus 2000!).
CAN WE BUILD IT?

HONOURING THOSE WHO SERVED
WE WILL REMEMBER THEM: Have you seen the new
temporary exhibitions in the clinical services building at
Blacktown? On level 3 near the courtyards, Aboriginal
artist Thomas Brown has interpreted the ANZAC story
from an indigenous perspective in commemoration of the
100 year anniversary of ANZAC Day.
FIVE HATS
GREEN GLOBES: Healthshare NSW has won a Green
Globe innovation award for the My Food Choices
program. The program provided better food, and instant
ordering which supports patient nutrition and cuts down
food waste. And has peach crumble. Congratulations to
the team!
IN THE PINK
GO PINK OR GO HOME: Stage 2 FF&E manager Jenny
is still in the pink!
RELAY FOR LIFE
TAKE YOUR MARKS: Katie from our aged care team is
loaded up with merch and ready for Relay for Life this
weekend. If you’re running at Blacktown or just dropping
by to show your support, stop and say hi. We’re got lots of
project goodies and info to give away.

LOOK AT THEM WOW Our BMDH Admin and Exec teams are
on their way to the B2Hub - a new
activity-based space designed for how
we work, and how we’d like to work in
the future.
WSLHD will have the first hospitals in
Australia with the purpose-built units.
B2Hub will be first cab off the rank at
Blacktown (or maybe that should be
the first Uber), so this week we invited
all future B2Hub teams to an
introduction to NWOW session.
This will be followed with sessions for
paper independence, managing mobile
teams, working in mobile teams and
etiquette.
We asked staff what they liked, and
what they didn’t like about their
workplace. Luke , top left, said the
best thing was being easily accessible
to people because he’s located off a
main corridor. And the worst thing
was being easily accessible when you
have to do focused work, because
you’re always interrupted.
We decided to put it to the test and
pile into his office for a photo op and
we can confirm that it’s impossible to
do focused work with six extra people
in there.
Don’t worry Luke, quiet focus zones
are on the way with NWOW!
Left, middle and bottom, the teams
check out new layouts and zones for
different kinds of work (much like your
own home where you have different
rooms for different activities).
Thanks to everyone who attended.

B2Hub construction | Issued 23 September 2016
Noisy works on level 2 for B2Hub
The former Pathology area on level 2 is
being refurbished for the B2Hub - a new
activity-based workspace for the
hospital administration units.
Demolition is underway and will be
followed by refurbishment work until
late 2016.
We appreciate your patience while we
deliver these new facilities for
Blacktown Hospital, and sorry about the
noise.
If you have any issues or concerns,
please contact the Project Office
on 1800 155 102.
NEW WAYS OF WORKING
Blacktown Hospital will be one of
the first hospitals in Australia
with activity-based workspaces.
Every NWOW workplace is
different because the design
reflects what people do and how
they do it, but generally there are
some common elements:
Quiet zones for concentrated
work
Private spaces for
confidential work or
discussion
Collaborative spaces for
shared work
Spaces for informal
interaction and breaks.
The new B2Hub will be a
purpose-built ‘home base’ for the
hospital admin team who are
currently housed in temporary
locations all over Blacktown and
other sites.
The B2Hub will also provide a
real-life model for activity-based
workspaces in the acute services
building.
It will allow clinical staff to
experience the new designs first-
hand and help them transition
smoothly to NWOW workspaces
when the new building is
completed in 2019.
