Sowing the Seeds for Literacy … 2013
“Sowing the Seeds for Literacy-2013” is a one-day early literacy training event for early years educators including ECE and kindergarten teachers, librarians, and others working with children three to six years of age. In its seventh year, Lori Jamison will share a Key Note titled: “READ, WRITE, PLAY, LEARN: EMERGENT LITERACY ALL DAY LONG”. Her presentation will focus on the ways that stories, songs and play support oral language development, building both literacy foundations and a love of learning. In the afternoon, participants will create practical programming resources in our ever-popular Make and Take sessions. Keep posted for more information about the “Sowing the Seeds for Literacy” 7th Annual Conference. Flyers will be distributed and will be available at www.soundstart.org in January 2013. For more information, contact SoundStart—Lambton County Preschool Speech and Language Program at 519 542 2074.

ABC and Beyond, Hanen’s newest program for early childhood educators, focuses specifically on the promotion of emergent literacy in early childhood settings. You’ll learn practical strategies for using book reading and everyday conversations and activities to promote the six building blocks of literacy: oral language, vocabulary, story comprehension, language of learning, print knowledge, and phonological awareness. The program uses a combination of evening group sessions and individual videofeedback sessions. We are currently looking for interested ECE/kindergarten teachers. What is required of participants...
attend all 7 Thursday evening group training sessions from 6:00-9:00 p.m. Site yet to be determined and will depend upon locations of participating centres. 2013 evening session dates: January 31, February 7, 28, March 7 , April 4, 11 and 25 participate in all 3 videotaping and feedback sessions. Each staff will be videotaped for approximately 5 minutes during interactions with the children in their care at their site. 30-minute videofeedback sessions will take place directly following the videotaping, and will typically occur on Friday mornings. Backfill for classrooms must be arranged by site manager in advance. Instructors:
Cheryl Surridge Sarnia-Lambton Ontario Early Years Centre, Lambton College, Alison Morrison Lambton Preschool Speech & Language Program, Pathways Health Centre for Children
This program is offered FREE of charge.
