Latino Americans Tuesdays at 9 pm
This series, continuing from last month, chronicles the rich and varied history and experiences of Latinos in North America.October 7 – War and Peace traces the World War II years, as Latino Americans serve their new country abroad yet still face discrimination at home. The New Latinos reviews the decades after World War II through the early 1960s.October 14 – The New Latinos reviews the decades after World War II through the early 1960s, as swelling numbers of immigrants from Puerto Rico, Cuba, and the Dominican Republic seek economic opportunities.October 21 – Pride and Prejudice traces the creation of the proud “Chicano” identity as labor leaders organize farm workers in California, and as activists push for better education opportunities for Latinos, the inclusion of Latino studies, and empowerment in the political process.October 28 – Peril and Promise looks at recent history, including the debate over undocumented immigrants and emergence of Latino Americans as the largest and youngest growing sector of the American population.

Dear Member, We are over the moon excited to announce the new
free KRCB Mobile App available now for you to download to your mobile devices. We are painfully aware, as I know you are too, that the KRCB radio signal has, shall we say, its challenges. Despite years of trying, we have simply been unable to identify an available stronger signal which would provide better coverage for our North Bay community. So, enter the Mobile App, available for iPhone, Android and all mobile devices. You’ll be able to not only get a strong signal throughout the North Bay but around the world, wherever your travels may take you. In addition to live streaming, you’ll also find archives of your favorite shows as well as archives of great local short-form videos from KRCB Television. Now you can share your favorite KRCB radio programs with friends around the globe so they too can enjoy the riches of the North Bay. Onward to the next galaxy!
KRCB board meetings are held on the third Wednesday of most months at the station. Call for details, 707-584-2000.

Harvest Time in Wine Country 5

History Project: Chateau Down Under Thursday, October 2, 8 pm
In the 1970s, Australian wine was a joke around the world. Forty years later, Australian wine is everywhere, and Australia is the world’s fourth largest wine exporter. Every restaurant and brasserie from Los Angeles to Shanghai now has a bottle of its finest Shiraz. This fun and lively film tells how a group of ambitious Australian winemakers broke into the world market.
Pinot Noir: The Holy Grail of Wine Sunday, October 12, 11 pm This documentary is a true story of adversity, struggle, and love between the world’s toughest grape—Pinot Noir—and people whose passion for Pinot Noir knows no bounds. John Saemann, an inexperienced wannabe vintner, is drawn to the magic of Sonoma Mountain, where he pursues his own vision of the Holy Grail of wine, encountering years of trials and tribulations in the vineyard and in the winery as he invests his soul and passion hoping his vineyard can leave a legacy in the world of fine Pinot Noir.
Harvest Monday, October 13, 9 pm and October 19 at 11 pm
Filmed in Sonoma County, Harvest reveals the blood, sweat and tears that go into every bottle of wine. Set during the harvest of 2011, the film follows five family wineries, an amateur home winemaker, and an extremely rare all-female picking crew made up of women from Michoacan and Oaxaca, Mexico. Particularly affecting are the women pickers, whose border-crossing stories show how much they had to sacrifice just to get to Sonoma County.

A Great Day at Whole Foods EventKRCB’s September 3rd fundraiser at the Coddingtown Whole Foods Market in Santa
Rosa was a big, bright, and colorful success. Many thanks to Whole Foods Market Coddingtown for selecting KRCB to participate in their Community Support Days program, and to those members who dropped by to shop and support the station. The store’s donation to KRCB (5% of the net sales for that day) amounted to several thousand dollars that will be used to support programming for TV and radio.
KRCB radio hosts, volunteers and staff helped spread the word about KRCB at Whole Foods Market Coddingtown in September. L-R: Winston Bull, co-host of Jazz Connections; Kirby Pierce, volunteer FM board operator; Wendy Nicholson, FM Admin; and Gary Carnivele, Auction Acquisitions and co-host of Outbeat.

Campaign and Election Coverage on KRCBCandidate Forums Sunday Mornings in October and Live Coverage of the Election on Nov. 4
Local races dominate the mid-term elections in the North Bay this year. With little drama left in the state offices after the June primary, attention will now focus mainly on city council contests, plus a pair of two-way races. North Sonoma County voters will decide a run-off for their county supervisor seat between longtime Windsor Town Council member Deb Fudge and political newcomer James Gore, while Petalumans will weigh rival Mayoral candidates David Glass and Mike Harris. City council seats are up for grabs in all nine cities in Sonoma County, as well as Sausalito, and Calistoga, Napa, St. Helena and Yountville in Napa County. KRCB will again offer live coverage of the election results, beginning at 9 pm on the night of November 4th. Additionally, we will broadcast the following candidate forums, hosted and recorded by the League of Women Voters.
CANDIDATE FORUMS ON TV 22Santa Rosa City Council Sunday, Oct. 12, 8 am
Petaluma Mayor and City Council Sunday, Oct. 19, 8 am
Sonoma County Supervisor, District 4 Sunday, Oct. 26, 8 am
