    Public Law 93380, the Family Educational Rights andPrivacy Act of 1974, students and their parents areadvised of certain practices and procedures at FloridaState College which relate to student records.

    Under this act

    Students will be accorded access to students recordswithin a reasonable time after the submission of awritten request to the custodian of that record.

    Students must consent to the release of any student

    information other than directory information to anyperson or agency.

    Parents lose all right to access when student is enrolledin a post-secondary institution.

    Disclosure without consent will be exercised by

    Florida State College to school officials withlegitimate educational interests.

    In addition, the college may disclose identifiableinformation from student educational recordswithout student consent to officials presenting ajudicial order or lawfully issued subpoena, and tomilitary branches in accordance with federalguidelines.

    a person employed by the college in an administrative, supervisory,academic, or support staff position (including safety and securitystaff);

    a person employed by an educational entity with which the collegehas an educational agreement or contract who has a legitimateeducational interest;

    a person or company with whom the college contracted (such asauditor, collection agent, credential and enrollment verification

    services); assisting another official in performing his or her tasks.

    A school official has a legitimate educational interest if he or she needsto review an educational record in order to fulfill his or herprofessional responsibility.

    in writing to the custodian of student records that allor part of the directory information NOT be released.

    Access to, or release of directory information will bewithheld until further written instruction is received

    from a student.

    Err on the side of caution.

    Only give information you are sure it is OK to give to thepeople you know you can give it to.

    If you are concerned or uncertain, let an administrator,

    College student records staff member, the Registrar orthe Office of General Counsel decide.
