Spring Break 2017

Is Almost Here! March 13th—17th

Lifetouch will be here tomorrow to take our Spring pictures. We do Spring photos a little differently than the Fall photos. We do not do retakes for Spring. You choose the pose and background you want for the photos, and then send the form in with your student tomorrow. When the pictures are ready, Lifetouch will send the packet home with your student. If you want the entire package, you can pay for them online or send the payment in with your student. If you want some of the pictures, you keep the sheets you want and return the remainder with your payment. If you do not want any of them, you return the entire package.

Students are welcome to wear their Spring “Sunday Best.”

You’re invited to participate in Catholic Relief Service’s Rice Bowl!

SMMCS will again be participating in CRS Rice Bowl, Catholic Relief Services’ Lenten program, as a way to encounter Jesus through others, especially through the most vulnerable in our world. The students received a Rice

Bowl to bring home. Please use this fun and easy resource to deepen your family’s Lenten experience and make a difference in the lives of the poor.

Rice Bowls are due back by April 19th at the School Mass.

For some really great ideas and activities, please visit the website at www.crsricebowl.org

On Wednesday, February 1st, we were blessed with a vocation talk delivered by Rev. Sr. Thecla Aku-bue, DDL. She is a member of the

religious order of sisters from Nigeria known as Daughters of

Divine Love (DDL). Until recently, she was a school teacher at St. Francis of Assisi Catholic

School in Houston and resides in our parish boundaries.

Thank you so much Sr. Thecla! You are an inspiration!

Sports Pictures… will be taken on Wednesday, March 8th at 10am.

SMMCS will host International Day on Thursday, March 23rd from 8:00am to 3:00pm in the FLC. Each grade will create an experience where visitors will be able to learn about various countries!

How You Can Help… The Room Parents (from each grade level) will provide 2-3 dishes from the assigned country that will feed 300 students. This food will be finger food to pass out as samples. The children are more than welcome to bring their own lunch as well. We will also need volunteers from each class to help with stamping passports and the food court area. Please contact Mrs. Rodriguez at [email protected] if you would like to help!

5TH GRADE COMMUNITY SERVICE PROJECT

Message from HeartGift: It is one of those rare occasions where HeartGift has the privilege of hosting two children at the same time.

Last Wednesday afternoon, we welcomed one year old Siyileni and her mom Stella from Malawi to Houston. Thank you so much to Saint Mary Magdalene Catholic School’s 5th grade students for the fabulous signs and wonderful gifts to help with her stay.

Siyileni is a bit underweight and has been admitted to the hospital to have special feeding and gain weight and strength before having lifesaving heart surgery next week.

Update from yesterday: Siyileni had lifesaving heart surgery yesterday at Children’s Memorial Hermann Hospital. She came through with flying colors and is recovering in the hospital’s pediatric intensive care unit.

Thank you to Dr. Douglas, nurse Karen, the whole team and the hospital staff continuing to care for Siyileni.
