SOCIAL STUDIES" Grade six will be using a new texbook from Pearson entitled My

World History Early Ages. The students have the book available on their iPads through the Pearson eText app.

" The book is also accessed through (www.successnetplus.com)

" Students can print review sheets for tests, quizzes, play review games, take virtual tours through various museums, and explore many related websites.

The sixth grade curriculum includes the following:" The study of Ancient Civilizations# Begins with early man# Ancient Egypt # Ancient Israelites and Hebrews# Ancient Greece# Ancient Rome# The fall of the Roman Empire.

SOCIAL STUDIES – GRADE BREAKDOWN

Tests and Projects$ 45 - 50% - Based on an entire unit or chapter. Multiple quizzes given prior to help

break information down.

Quizzes$ 35 - 40% - Quizzes are given frequently throughout the term.

Homework/Participation$ 10 - 15% - Students should expect homework every night Monday through Thursday.

There may also be an occasional weekend assignment.

• Text is Literature-Common Core Edition,published by Prentice Hall

• Access to text is on student iPads

• Includes short stories, folk tales, myths, drama, poetry and non-fiction

• Lessons in reading connect ideas and language in literature with the skills of composition and writing

• Two books and assessment per semester from AR list should be read by students

• Novels: A Single Shard by Linda Sue Parkand Tuck Everlasting by Natalie Babbitt• Novels used for classroom discussion and to develop students’ ability to examine

literature critically

• Holt Elements of Language Introductory Course with online access plus other various sources help:

- support the curriculum of writing,

- usage, mechanics and spelling

• Writing across the curriculum

SCIENCE ! Grade six will be using Pearson’s Science Explorer. Each students will

have their own hardcopy of the book.

MATHThe sixth grade is using a sequential math curriculum aligned with the Massachusetts State Frameworks and the Common Core.

Units of study consist of:

Order of Operations/Exponents Graphing functions in first quadrant Integers and Absolute Value Solving integer equations and inequalities

MATH AND SCIENCE- HOMEWORKTests40% - Usually 1 to 2 per term. Based on an entire unit or chapter. Multiple quizzes are given prior, to break information down.

Quizzes are useful tools for tests. Class notes and packets serve as study guides. Tests will stay at school.

Quizzes30% - Quizzes are given frequently throughout the term. Students may only have a day notice.

Based on recent classwork and current lesson.

Classwork/Participation25% - Assignments completed during class may be graded. These may include projects,

review sheets, graded homework, classwork quiz, ect... Students will usually receive notice at the time of the assignment.

Homework5% - students should expect homework every night Monday through Thursday in math and science. There may also be an

occasional weekend assignment. Homework is an extension of their learning, and reinforcing the lessons learned in class. Students should not be working more than 15 to 20 minutes on each academic assignment a night.

Students are now recording their homework assignments on “myHomework” APP on their iPads.

IPAD RULES

~ iPads should be fully charged when you arrive at school~ iPads should not be turned on unless you have been instructed

to do so ~ iPads are used for educational purposes only~ you should not touch anyones else’s iPad with out permission~ sending emails or texts during class is not allowed~ you may not record or take pictures of teachers or classmates

while in school~ iPads should be cleaned and checked for damage every week
