Martin Muehlstaetter wasn’t planning to show Blue Col-lar Tag at the NRBC; his owner, former Non Pro Champion Shaunda Rai Ruckman would be at the reins.

However, a bobble in the Non Pro prelims kept Ruckman and the 6-year-old gelding out of the finals. “Shaunda asked if I wanted to show him, and I said ‘Hell yeah!’” Muehls-taetter said.

In the preliminary round the pair scored a 222. “I didn’t feel a lot of pressure about showing him, because his owner was supposed to ride him. Then we made the finals, and that was a bonus,” he said. “I just went for it and every-thing fell into place. This horse was really good. In the Open Level 4 finals, Muehlstaetter and Blue Collar Tag scored a 226 – besting Open Level 4 Reserve Champi-on Craig Schmersal and What A Wave by a scant half-point. “It feels great to win it – It’s unbelievable! I just hope I don’t wake up tomorrow morning and it was all a dream. I’m very thankful.”When asked about the toughness of the finals, he said,

“I think there were two Futurity Champions in the finals. There were a bunch of great horses, and I think every horse had a shot to win it. It was about as tough as it could be.”

Although Muehlstaetter isn’t planning to show Blue Col-lar Tag at the NRHA Derby, he does plan to take the geld-ing to the World Equestrian Games in France to compete for Team Austria.

Craig Schmersal piloted What A Wave, by Tidal Wave Jack out of What A Sunrise, to a 225.5, claiming the Reserve Championship, along with a check for $51,000, a Gist Silversmiths buckle, and a custom handmade bit from Jim Edwards. What A Wave is owned by Karl Roberts and Terri Roberts.

Sam Schaffhauser and Gunners Tinseltown took In-termediate Open Reserve honors back to North Texas, after marking a 224 in the finals. Not only did the pair win $14,822 in the Intermediate Open, they also finished

tied for fourth in the Open Level 4, worth an additional $27,500. Gunners Tinseltown, by Colonels Smoking Gun out of Miss Tinseltown, is owned by David Silva.

Ryan Rushing & Steppin On Sparks

In 2012, Ryan Rushing qualified for the Open Level 1 and Limited Open finals. He was winning the Level 1, up until his friend Fernando Salgado piloted his horse to a half-point higher score. “I had a really good horse, but got beat out by my friend Fernando. Last year I was sweating it all day because I went early and had to wait to see how I did,” he said.

After qualifying Steppin On Sparks for the Intermedi-ate and Limited Open finals, he knew history could repeat itself. Luckily, his score of 221 held up for the Level 2 Championship, and was good for a fourth place tie in the Intermediate Open. “This year was fun. I knew we did the best we could and just knew that if it worked out it would be great, and if not, we did our best,” he said.

All total, Rushing and Steppin On Sparks won $18,470, along with a custom saddle from the NRBC; a Gist Sil-versmiths buckle; a Whisper Bit; a WonPad; and natural alternative grazer from Ventures Vision.

Steppin On Sparks, by Jacs Electric Spark out of Ma-hoganys First Step, is owned by HDC Quarter Horses. The 5-year-old stallion was started by Andrea Fappani as a 3-year-old, then shown by Marco Ricotta before being shown by Jordan Larson.

“Jordan really went to bat for me and got me the oppor-tunity to show this horse here this year. The preliminary round was actually the first time I showed him, and I’ve only been riding him about five weeks,” Rushing said. “He’s a very fun horse to show – he’s phenomenal. I’m thrilled to get to show him. I thank Jordan for giving me great opportunities, and teaching me everything I know.

There was a tie for Reserve between Debbie Arballo and A Shining Sidekick, and Trevor Dare and Roundabout Wrangler, who both marked a 219. Each took home a check for $5,044. A Shining Sidekick, by Starbucks Sidekick out of A Shining Starlett, is owned by Tom and Mandy McCutcheon, while Roundabout Wrangler, by Starlights Wrangler out of Hollywood China Chic, is owned by Juan Manuel Alanis.

Tell Edgmon might have had one of the biggest cheer-ing section of anyone competing in the finals at the NRBC. Riding Cool N Dun Gunner, owned by Kevin Corcoran, Edgmon marked a 219 to win the Open Level 1 finals, good for $1,668.

“Thank you to Kevin Corcoran, Casey and Nicole Deary, my wife Ari, and all my co-workers for helping. I don’t think they get enough credit,” Edgmon said following the awards ceremony, where he was presented with a custom saddle from Continental Saddlery; a Gist Silversmiths buckle; a WonPad; a Whisper Bit; and natural alternative grazer from Ventures Vision.

Edgmon and Cool N Dun Gunner (Colonels Smok-ing Gun x Miss Cool Heat) competed at the 2013 NRBC, finishing fifth in the Open Level 1. “I showed her all last year and they let me have the chance to bring her back this year,” he said. “I was pretty sure we’d have a good run when she came in and she committed to her first stop. She

turned ok, and then I was able to relax on the circles. When I came around the corner for the first stop I was feeling pretty comfortable. She was with me the whole time.”

Jordan McBurney and Hava Vital tied for Reserve in the Open Level 1, each winning $888. McBurney was riding Dun Step N Out (Wimpys Little Step x This Is How Its Done), owned by Rhodes River Ranch, while Vital rode MJ Roosters Gun (Colonels Smoking Gun x Gallo Del Blanco), owned by Rodion Cantacuzene.

With Randy Paul at the reins, Chics Dream About Me won the Open Prime Time Championship with a 223. “He felt really good,” noted Paul, who accepted the check for $1,950, as well as a Gist Silversmiths buckle, Rios of Mer-cedes boots, a WonPad, and a 100% beaver custom hand-made hat from Lone Star Hatters.

Chics Dream About Me, by Wimpys Little Step out of This Chicsdundreamin, was started and shown as a 3-year-old by Cody Clock, before an injury sidelined him from competition most of his 4-year-old year. “Cody showed him and did a really good job. We’ve just really started bringing him back. We’ve only showed at one other show, so he’s just starting his career,” Paul said. “He’s one of the better horses I’ve ever rode. He’s very talented and really good-minded. He has all the goodies.”

Paul is the head trainer for Day Creek Ranch, located in Semi Valley, California. “I really love it. They have a beautiful place. I thank the Days for believing in me and sending me down the road with their horse. I’m so glad we were able to do well for them,” he said.

Non Pro Champions Crowned at NRBCThe Non Pro finals were held Friday, April 18. With 176 entries, it was the second largest Non Pro class in the event’s

17-year history. The three riders crowned as Champions were all in agreement: It doesn’t matter if you’re a former Cham-pion or a first-time competitor; there are very few times more exciting than when you enter the arena as an NRBC finalist.

McCutcheon Claims Record Sixth NRBC Non Pro Championship on Ms Whiz DunitMandy McCutcheon, Aubrey, Texas, has competed at all

but one NRBC since its inception in 1998, missing out in 2000 because she was pregnant with her son Cade. In that time, she won the coveted Championship title five times – a record for the most wins that she shared with fellow NRHA Million Dollar Rider Dell Hendricks.

That changed when, as draw 12 in the Non Pro Level 4 finals, she piloted Ms Whiz Dunit to a 220.5. “I thought she did well. It’s a big pen and she’s a little horse, but she worked,” McCutcheon said of the 4-year-old mare, by Topsail Whiz out of A Bueno Poco Dunit. “It never gets old. I was telling someone the other day that maybe I have a problem, because it’s all a competition, but I do love it. I love what I do so much. It never gets boring or old – it’s always fun.”

McCutcheon received a check for $30,000, one year’s use of a two-horse Featherlite trailer from Twin Cities Feath-erlite, a saddle from Bob’s Custom Saddles, a Gist Silver-smiths buckle, a pair of Rios of Mercedes boots, a Whisper Bit from M3 Products, a WonPad, a saddle pad from Yucca Flats, and a $100 gift certificate from San Juan Ranch and Santa Cruz Biotechnology.

Mandy and her husband, Tom, purchased Ms Whiz Dunit in October of 2013, from breeder Roxanne Koepsell. “Tom had been riding her, and he liked her but she was too small. He just kept telling me how much he liked her, so we bought her,” she said. Soon, Mandy and “Missy” were

a winning team, claiming the Non Pro Level 4 title at the Southwest Reining Horse Association and NRHA futurities. “My plan and goal is to keep her for a long time and make some babies with her.”

McCutcheon noted that the NRBC is her favorite event. “The show management team is awesome. The goal of this event has always been to take care of both the exhibi-tors and sponsors,” she explained. “It’s the horse show that takes care of everyone, and it’s well-organized, has great sponsors, and an awesome facility to have an event.”

McCutcheon qualified three horses for the finals. She fin-ished tied for fourth on Customized Gunner (Colonels Smok-ing Gun x Custom Made Dunit), and eighth on Shiney Enter-prize (Smart And Shiney x My Royal Enterprise), collecting an additional $16,500. Both mares are owned by Mandy’s parents, Tim and Colleen McQuay, of McQuay Stables.

Barely old enough to drive, Jack Medows came to his first NRBC, made the finals on Surprizentheprincess, and then finished as Champion of the Non Pro Levels 1, 2, and 3. He also claimed third place in the Non Pro Level 4, bringing his total finals take to $29,255. He also received; two custom saddles from Jim Taylor Saddlery; a custom saddle from Continental Saddlery; three Gist Silversmiths buckles; a pair of Rios of Mercedes boots; three Whisper Bits from M3 Products; three WonPads; and three $100 gift certificates from San Juan Ranch/Santa Cruz Biotechnology.

“It was really exciting – I wasn’t expecting to do this well at all,” said the 16-year-old, who noted that, not only was it his first time to show at the NRBC, it was also only his second major derby event. “I wasn’t nervous at all, but I don’t know why. It could be because I’m low on sleep or something like that. I felt completely prepared, thanks to Gabe Hutchins and Gaeton Gauthier.”

Medows has only been riding reiners a short while, mak-ing a transition from riding pleasure horses a few years ago. He started with a couple of older horses, competing in youth classes, before his parents purchased Surprizentheprincess from Kelle Smith after last year’s NRBC. “She did really

well here, and we’d seen her at Gordyville before that,” he said of the Jerry Lees Surprize mare, who’s out of Princess In Diamonds. “I want to thank my Grandpa, Ron Fransen, who found her, as well as my parents, Jeff and Amy Me-dows, and Gabe, Gaton, and all the Darling Ranch crew.”

Although Medows is currently homeschooled, he said he plans to go back to school for his junior and senior years.

Finishing as the Non Pro Levels 2 and 3 and Prime Time Reserve Champion was Greg Gottschalk and Dun Won A Spook (Smart Spook x Dun It Won It). The pair marked a 218, good for a total of $3,866.

The Non Pro Level 1 Reserve Champion was Saman-tha Belcher, who piloted Taser Gun (Jacs Electric Spark x Maggie Gun) to a 213.5. She won $1,015.

Some of the loudest cheers of the day could be heard when reigning NRBC Non Pro Champions Ron Thompson and Taris Dreamer entered the arena as the last entry of the day. From the very first stop, it was obvious that the duo were going for the win. They came as close as they could – a 220 – finishing as the Reserve Champions of the Non Pro Level 4, and the Non Pro Prime Time Champions.

“It was a lot of fun. It wasn’t as good as we know he can be – but none of us ever are,” Thompson said. “I love this horse. He does whatever we need to do. Today was my fault. I didn’t get him turned like he can, but that was all me not him!”

All told, Thompson, of Whitesboro, Texas, collected more than $19,371, as well as two Gist Silversmiths buck-les, a pair of Rios of Mercedes boots, and a Won Pad.

“I love this place. It’s a big pen and everyone runs hard. This is the best pen we show in. It’s got great ground, it’s well run, and it pays like a slot machine. That’s my favorite Ron Thompson & Taris Dreamer

part!” he admitted.Coming in as last year’s Champion was more than a little

nerve-wracking for Thompson, who qualified for the finals with a 218. “The go round was really, really tough mental-ly. I felt more pressure in the go-round than I ever have had showing one. I didn’t want to screw up and just wanted to make it back to the finals,” he said. “But today, I’ve never been so calm. I knew what I had to do, even if I didn’t quite get the job done. I’m very happy for Mandy – she’s a great competitor and does a great job.”

Thompson noted that he couldn’t have had the success he has had without the help of family and friends. “I thank my wife, Becky. She’s very supportive and she takes care of stuff at home while I’m doing this,” he said. “I also thank Matt Armenta – he’s my coach and a really good friend. I’ve went and got help from Don Murphy; he’s a National Reined Cow Horse Association Hall of Famer. If you have a glitch in your horse, I’d say go see Don. He helped me immensely and I wouldn’t have made it without him. I also have to give credit to my very good friend John Hoyt. He’s

been very influential in how my horses go. I’m proud to know him.”

Five-year-old Taris Dreamer, by Magnum Chic Dream out of Taris San Cutter, has won over $130,000 in lifetime earnings – and the talented gelding still has one year of NRBC eligibility left. “We will be back next year. I’ve had some people who have inquired about buying him, but most don’t ask if he’s for sale. I don’t really care, he can die on my place because I like him that much,” he said.

With a score of 224.5, Jordan Larson, of Whitesboro, Texas, claimed the NRBC Open Classic Challenge Cham-pionship, as well as the Championship of the $25,000 Added NRHA Open. The Open Classic Challenge, only open to Classic Challenge enrolled NRBC foals aged 7 & Up, paid $12,478. He collected an additional $7,605 for the NRHA Open title.

He entered the class on Wimpys Lil Star, a 7-year-old stal-lion by Wimpys Little Step, out of Starlights Reba. “It’s a re-ally good payday,” Larson said with a smile after the awards ceremony. “This horse was really good everywhere. He ran out of air faster than I thought he would because we were running so hard, but he was doing everything I wanted.”

Wimpys Lil Star is owned by Dr. Thomas Aschenbrenner

of Germany. Dr. Aschenbrenner’s son, Phillip Losch, pi-loted the flashy palomino to NRBC Intermediate Non Pro championship in 2013. “He’s too old for Philip to show in the derbies now, so I told them we should enter this. Philip is going to show him in the Non Pro Classic Challenge on

Shawn Flarida has won the Kentucky Reining Cup for the fourth time – this year by scoring 452.5 on Michell Kim-ball’s Spooks Gotta Whiz.

“He’s just a nice horse,” said Flarida. “He showed good both times [this weekend]. I had bobbles in both patterns-I missed my first stop a little bit today, but he gives his full heart every time he shows. You can go as fast as you want; he’s just a great horse.”

Mandy McCutcheon was second (449.0) aboard her parents Tim and Colleen McQuay’s Yellow Jersey, and third was Jordan Larson (448.0) with Heritage Farm’s HF Mobster. This competition also served as the selection trial for the squad for the Alltech FEI World Equestrian Games in Normandy, France, in August.

McCutcheon, who hasn’t made a previous World Games squad, admitted she felt the added pressure. “This is all new territory for me,” said. “I was more nervous for my first run, but having a horse like this makes all the difference. I didn’t get my first stop today like I wanted, but I took a deep breath and said, ‘OK, we gotta hit this.’ And he did.

“[The selection trial] made me nervous,” she continued. “But the next part is just fun. To be able to ride a horse like this, and for my parents to give me this opportunity, is pretty generous.”

Earlier in the week Larson hadn’t felt very confident of his chances, after his horse became a bit dehydrated, but the pair recovered to score well. “I had a rough week,” he admitted. “I didn’t get to ride him much, but he went in there and took care of me. I’m so thrilled to be here - it’s a great horse with a great owner, and I’m looking forward to France.”

Joining these three on the squad will be the newly minted

American citizen, Italian-born Andrea Fappani, who is qualified with two of his horses: Silver Spurs Equine’s Smoking Whiz (446.5, for fourth place) and Custom Cash Advance (445.0, for fifth place).

Because Fappani can’t ride more than one horse at the Games, the other two squad members will be Troy Heikes on Denise Bixler’s Lil Gun Dunit (442.0) and Tom Mc-Cutcheon with Jennifer Marley’s Dun Git A Nicadual (440.5). Tom is a team veteran, but Heikes and Fappani, like Mandy and Larson, are new to the Games.

“This means a lot,” said Fappani. “I moved here when I was 18. I’ve experienced a lot of top shows, but I’ve not

been tried internationally. Just the fact [that I made] tough-est team in whole world means a lot. This is something I’ve wanted to get to one day.”

“It’s my first time to be involved, but I’m excited to be part of the crew,” said Heikes. “The history of Normandy is [is so extensive], I’m excited to get there and see it.”

Being a Games veteran doesn’t mean that Tom is any less pleased to have earned a trip abroad. “I’m super excited,” he said. “Shawn [Flarida] and I have been to most of the [venues], but we don’t know what our set-up there is yet. But I’m just happy to be a part of the team.”

Mandy has garnered a lot of titles over her career, and now she can now add one more for becoming the first woman to make a U.S. reining squad. But she’s not focus-ing on that. “I don’t look at anything I accomplish like that,” she said.

Held at the Kentucky Horse Park, in conjunction with Ro-lex Kentucky Three-Day Event, the Kentucky Reining Cup presents Reining at the highest possible level, drawing top competitors and elite-level horses from around the globe.

Dan James Wins Kentucky Reining Cup FreestyleIn a night full of costumes and music, a remarkable

performance by Australian Dan James and Smart Little Elan took the top of the podium with a score of 227.0 at the World Freestyle Championship at the Kentucky Rein-ing Cup. Drake Johnson, on Sonic Chic Dream, and Rocky Dare, riding Bruce and Sue Kuryloski’s Squeaky Clean Genes, tied with a score of 226 for the silver medal.

James’ performance brought the crowd to its feet as he performed all the spins, stops, run-downs and lead changes bareback, and then while seated backwards. As if that weren’t enough, he also dismounted at one point and sent the chestnut spinning on his own with a wave of his hand.

His costume was a mirror image of that worn by Johnny Depp in the film The Lone Ranger, and his music featured both the classic theme and music from the film. “Grow-ing up as a kid I wanted to be a movie horse trainer,” said James of the inspiration for his performance.

James admitted that learning to ride the horse backwards was trickier than he anticipated. “For a little while I spent more time picking myself off the ground than riding,” said James. “They say that the key to horsemanship is keeping the horse between you and the earth, but I didn’t do much of that.”

Rocky Dare is known for his own memorable performances, but even he admits riding back-wards isn’t on his buck-et list. “In my younger days I might have tried riding backwards, but not today,” he said.

Dare has been been riding his mare since she was a 2-year-old. His routine was in-spired by his grandchildren, who also played a roll in his performance. Last year Dare performed to Psy’s “Gangnam Style,” which became a favorite for his grandchildren.

“I said I can’t just do Gangnam Style all the time,” he said. Dare’s wife provided the solution, by framing a bedtime story of kids having their dreams come true-in this case a return to the “Gangnam Style” performance.

Johnson has also been working with his horse for many years, although he was originally owned and competed by a youth student. “He’s really kind of a special horse, and I’ve

been lucky to do some nice things on him. He just has a lot of personality. It’s really kind of a neat connection to have with a horse,” he said.

James is new to the sport of reining, but his victory tonight has made his path clear. “It’s been a helluva experi-ence. It’s definitely lit a fire under me to keep on doing this. It’s an amazing event,” he said.

In addition to the victors this evening, Pete Kyle brought the house to its feet when he unsaddled his champion mare A Ruf Gal at the end of their performance, signaling her retirement from competition. A clearly emotional Kyle hugged his longtime partner and waved to the crowd as the packed house gave them a standing ovation.

Earlier in the day, a very special competition made its debut at the Kentucky Reining Cup-para-reining. Five rid-ers with disabilities, most from the world of para-dressage, contested the class. Lise Yervasi came out the victor, scor-ing 72.00 aboard Lexi Stoval’s Dolano Glory Rey CT. Dale Dedrick came second with a 70.5 aboard Dan James’ Smart Little Elan, and Holly Jacobson with Tamra Kyle’s Zins Smart Wrangler was third with 70.0.

Para-reining is a new class with in the sport of reining, but it is quickly catching on.

“This was challenging because it is so new to us,” said class organizer and FEI reining competitor Lisa Coulter. “We just weren’t sure how the horses would respond to these riders-we had no framework to work from, but it was amazing how these horses responded and adapted. These horses suit a lot of riders because they’re shorter and smaller-strided.”

“I’m a grade 1b in [para-dressage],” said Dedrick. “So I only walk and trot. I have not cantered a horse in more than 18 months, and I was a little leery about the idea of a can-ter test, but competition manager Brad Ettleman said, ‘Oh no, the Western lope is more comfortable, you’ll like it.’ And then James and his horse Top Gun convinced me to try it and it was great.”

Yervasi is an experi-enced competitor, but the new requirements made her a bit nervous. “The very long, slow walk in was really hard. It’s hard to be patient and keep your nerves in check all the way to the center.”

But Yervasi is now sold on her new discipline and hopes it expands to other venues. “This horse was incredible. These horses are so nicely trained. I really enjoyed the rein-ing and thought it suited my disability quite well. The trot is hard for me in para-dressage but the loping was not so hard.”

“These horses are so mentally stable and are trying so hard to work with the riders,” said Jacobson. “Plus the clothes are way more fun.”

‘Good Sports’ Team Wins In Style At Kentucky Reining CupThe Team Challenge is a unique competition in the sport

of reining, but its biggest guns turn out to contest it at the Kentucky Reining Cup. This year victory went to the Good Sports team, consisting of Shannon Rafacz on Jan Pence's Wimpys Dun Twistin, Mandy McCutcheon on her parent’s Tim & Colleen McQuay's Yellow Jersey, and Mandy's hus-band Tom McCutcheon on Turn About Farm Inc.'s Dun Got My Rest.

"It's a different feeling to come to an event like this and have a chance to spend time with these different riders and barns and interact with them and build that camaraderie. It's a nice feeling," said Rafacz.

Six teams in total competed, and each team had to have at least one amateur competitor. While the team competi-tion was a focus of festivities, most of the competitors had a different team on their mind. The Kentucky Cup CRI was the first half of the selection trial for the 2014 Alltech FEI World Equestrian Games, to be held in August in Normandy, France.

Shawn Flarida led the charge for one of four team berths by scoring a 225 on Michell Kimball's 7-year-old stallion

Spooks Gotta Whiz. Mandy is lurking right behind him with a 224, and Andrea Fappani is third with a 223.5 aboard Silver Spurs Equine's Smoking Whiz. Jordan Larson is fourth with a 223 aboard Heritage Farms' HF Mobster.

"It's a qualifying year, so that makes the Kentucky Cup special," said Flarida, whose enthusiasm for his mount is infectious. "Every horse trainer who's touched this horse has won on him. So any time I ride him it's fun, but the pressure to win is multiplied by 10."

As a result, Flarida does not take his place at the top of the leader board for granted. "The horses at this competition are all so evenly matched. Little mistakes are all that separates these horses - they're all great horses that I'd put in my barn."

NRHA congratulates its newest Two Million Dollar Rider, Mandy McCutcheon, for unof-ficially becoming the first non pro and first female rider to earn the designation. Most recently McCutcheon won her sixth NRBC Non Pro Champion-ship and earned reserve champion honors at the Kentucky Reining Cup.

At the 2014 NRBC, McCutcheon piloted Ms Whiz Dunit to a score of 220.5 for first. She also tied for fourth place on Customized Gunner (Colonels Smoking Gun x Custom Made Dunit) and won eighth place on Shiney Enterprise (Smart And Shiney x My Royal Enterprise). McCutcheon and Ms Whiz Dunit came off of a successful 2013 winning championships at the NRHA Futurity and Southwest Rein-ing Horse Association Futurity.

During the Kentucky Reining Cup, McCutcheon com-peted in the Adequan/USEF Open Reining National Cham-

pionship and Selection Trial for the 2014 Alltech FEI World Equestrian Games U.S. Reining Squad. Over two rounds of competition, McCutcheon tallied an overall score of 449 to clench reserve championship honors and to become the first woman to ever represent the United States at a Reining World Championship. To make the win even more spe-cial, she was aboard her father Tim McQuay’s 10-year-old American Quarter Horse stallion Yellow Jersey for the final dollars needed to reach the milestone.

McCutcheon has created many memorable moments in Reining including these most recent major event wins:

OFFICIAL BOOT OF THE

For Youth and For Non Pros, the Tulsa Reining Classic, set for August 26-31, is the place to be in 2014 with special opportunities for fun classes, free instruction and more! Youth and Non Pros should definitely mark this week on their show calendars!

Building on the foundation laid in previous years, the Tulsa Reining Classic will again feature special activities and incentives for both non-professionals and young riders.

Katy Krshka, who conducted the very popular youth horsemanship clinics at the Tulsa Reining Classic last year, will return to the Super Duty Arena for a new edition of instruction. She will be joined by some of her Oklahoma State University Equestrian Team teammates to provide even more one-on-one instruction and coaching for the youth riders who participate.

As a member of the OSU Equestrian Team, Katy has been a four-time National College Equestrian Associa-tion All-American. She earned the 2007 AQHA Reserve World Championship in Western Riding, the 2008 AQHA World Championship in Hunt Seat Equitation, 2009 AQHA Reserve World Champion in Western Horsemanship, 2009 AQHA Reserve World Championship in Showmanship at Halter, and the 2009 AQHA Reserve World Champion

in Hunt Seat Equitation. In addition, Katy has earned 11 Championships and five All-Around Championships at the All-American Quarter Horse Congress. At the 2010 AQHA World Cup, she was the winner of 3 gold medals.

That’s plenty of star power to offer to the youth at the Tulsa Reining Classic, and the Non Pros will also have the opportunity to ask questions, be coached and learn a lot from a legendary horsewoman, Katy’s mom, Jackie Krshka!

Appearing at the Tulsa Reining Classic for the first time, Jackie’s incredible record includes everything from an NRHA Limited Open Futurity title, AQHA Superhorse win, multiple AQHA World titles and reserves, Congress Championships and even the honor of being chosen as AQHA Horsewoman of the Year. She has coached innu-merable riders to show ring success and she is a perfect choice as a coach to help the Non Pros at the Tulsa Reining polish their skills.

The Youth clinic will be preceded by youth classes in the Mustang Arena and will be followed by a special Jackpot Youth Reining Horsemanship Class

that precedes the Youth Short Stirrup class for 10 year and under riders.

On Sunday, August 31, the day begins with the second session of Short Stirrup reining and continues with the rest of the second slate of youth classes throughout the day in the Super Duty Arena.
