Network for Evaluating Structural Components (NESC)
Main Focus: Development of integrity assessment procedures for structural componentsSignificant number of studies (computational + experimental) on 7 different component cases (NESC I-VII)Involved components with defects or welded structuresPerformance of benchmarks, (computational, non-destructive measurements, …) Existence: 1993- (since 2006 under NULIFE umbrella)
NESC Expert Group 2 Structural Integrity Assessment
• A utility driven network addressing in-service inspection (ISI) by non-destructive testing (NDT). Established in 1992 and currently operated by JRC (future: NUGENIA)
• ENIQ is working towards a harmonized European approach on reliable and effective ISI; more specifically, ENIQ is working on
Inspection Qualification (IQ) Task Group on Qualification (TGQ)Risk-Informed In-Service Inspection (RI-ISI) Task Group on Risk (TGR)
• ENIQ has 40+ active members: UK, FIN, SE, DE, BE, FR, ES, CZ, SK, HU, CH, … + overseas observers (US, CAN)
• ENIQ produces recommended practices, discussion documents, technical reports, downloadable from
http://capture.jrc.ec.europa.eu/publications/ENIQ_pubs.html
Further Development of ENIQ
Decision of ENIQ Voting Members (=Utilities in ENIQ) to integrate ENIQ into NUGENIA (JRC currently awaiting written confirmation of all Voting Members).
ENIQ will become a cross cutting area in NUGENIA, on in-service inspection and qualification.

JRC’s View of NUGENIA
JRC supports the concept to have one single European R&D network on Gen II / III reactors to exploit synergies and to avoid duplication of efforts.
Content & focus of NUGENIA Working Areas is in-line with JRC work program on Gen II / III reactors.
JRC sees NUGENIA as the R&D network on Gen II/ III reactors in Europe and is ready to contribute.
JRC Contribution to NUGENIA
At least one Expert for each working area
Active contribution to Executive Committee & Secretariat
Observer in General Assembly
Many Thanks for your Attention
andSuccess to NUGENIA
