In 2006 the Sauder School of Business launched an ambitious campaign to support the revitalization and expansion of its facilities at the University of British Columbia. March 1st, 2012 marked the official grand opening of the new facilities. Thanks to your support, and the support of countless members of the Sauder community— alumni, friends, faculty, staff, and students—the $70-million Opening Worlds Campaign has helped transform the Sauder School into a leading global destination for business education.

Over 55,000-square-feet have been added to the original 216,000-square-foot structure in a 5-level expansion on the west side of the building, which houses the new Bruce R. Birmingham Undergraduate Centre, the Middlefield Group Lecture Theatre, and the Jim Pattison Leadership Centre. The new 6,500-square-foot Big 4 Conference Centre was built on the top of the administrative tower. Extensive renovations were completed to the original building, now home to the Hari B. Varshney Business Career Centre, CA Hall and the Sauder Exchange Café, the Canaccord Learning Commons, the Wayne Deans Financial Analysis Centre, the d.studio, and numerous state-of the-art classrooms, breakout rooms, and lounges. The renewed space provides the flexibility to accommodate changes in teaching techniques and technology, and open areas for collaborative learning, socializing, and networking.

Thank you for contributing to this important initiative, which would not have been possible without your support. We are pleased to provide the following overview of the renovation and the wonderful new facility that now welcomes our students, alumni, faculty, and business community.

Construction

When construction began in 2007, the old lecture halls were dismantled to prepare for the 55,000-square-foot addition. Construction crews were a daily presence around the Henry Angus Building for the next few years as the revitalization and expansion project came to fruition.
