2.3 Assembling the KCD-ISO/KTD-F
The KCD-ISO / KTD-F is fi tted with legs (minimum height of 100 mm). These reliably prevent the formation of condensation on the external bottom of the tank and additionally ensure good visibility of this area. The KCD-ISO / KTD-F may only be assembled on a level and solid base, e.g. concrete (minimum grade C20/25 or equivalent). In this respect, proof of on-site structural analysis is to be provided. In order to maintain the manufacturer’s warranty, the storage tanks are – for the period up to commissioning – to be permanently and reliably pro-tected against moisture, dirt and other damaging infl uences. To prevent condensation in the tank, environmental conditions such as air temperature, temperature changes (cooling, dew point), humidity, and the return temperature must have been included in the planning stage, and observed during the assembly. Condensation leads to corrosion in the tank and must permanently be prevented. The following individual requirements then apply:
- temperature between +5°C and +30°C; max. humidity 75%- no aggressive atmosphere- no dirt accumulation from exposure to the construction work- no fl ying sparks or other adverse effects from metal working or welding- protecting the tank from unauthorised use and from damage
2.3.1 Assembly of the KCD-ISO / KTD-F in a machine room
Basically, storage tanks with maximum storage volume of 5,000 litres may be operated in a machine room. For tanks with a larger volume, a separate tank storage room is required. (cf. chapter 2.5.3 Ventilation and 2,5,4 Filling connections)
2.3.2 Installation of KCD-ISO / KTD-F outside of a machine room
Outside of a machine room, up to 100,000 litres may be stored in a KCD-ISO / KTD-F in atank storage room.
2.3.3 Outdoor installation of KCD-ISO / KTD-F
For the outdoor installation of KCD-ISO / KTD-F a suffi ciently stable and level area is required. The tank is to be secured against impact from an external source and against slipping. On-site proof is to be provided. For suggestions in this regard, see chapter 2.6 / 2.7. The tank must be equipped for outdoor assembly.
NOTE If the KCD-ISO / KTD-F is to be set up outdoors, a weatherproof coating of the tank container is required.
2.4 Initial commissioning
Before the KCD-ISO / KTD-F is fi lled the fi rst time, the following point are to checked: 1. Proper mounting / assembly of the tank 2. Tightness and stability of the pipe connections and dome lid 3. Proper connection of the sensors – a. Liquid level gauge b. Overfi ll prevention control c. Vacuum leak gauge d. Limit indicator 4. Stable base for the sealing plugs
2.5 Operating sequence
• Check the ball valves. The ball valves on the delivery pipe must be closed. • Connecting the power. This starts the sensors working.
WARNING The overfi ll prevention control will register an alarm in the fi rst few seconds, since the PTC thermistor for the liquid level gauge has fi rst to be heated up.
• Filling from a tanker:1. As the volume of liquid in the tank increases, the switching point settings can be checked (if available these are: MIN-MIN, MIN, MAX, MAX-MAX).2. As the limit indicator is wetted, the fi lling process will be automatically interrupted. The fi lling via a fi lling line from a tanker is prescribed for a volume size greater than 1,000 litres. This means that the day fuel tank may also be fi lled by means of the automatic cut-off nozzle directly from the tanker (dead man’s switch principle).
• Filling with installation pump:1. As the volume of liquid in the tank increases, the switching point settings can be checked (if available these are: MIN-MIN. MIN, MAX, MAX-MAX).2. As the limit indicator is wetted, the pump must be automatically switched off.
• check pipe connections for tightness • open ball valves on delivery pipe, as appropriate • the KCD-ISO / KTD-F is ready for operation
The lifting and loading is to be carried out via the four crane eyelets or ISO corners located in the area of the roof. In doing this, the load on the crane eyelets must remain equally spread. A diagonal pull of more than 30° from the vertical is not permitted.Any damage to the packing materials or the tank is to be recorded and reported to the manufacturer. Damage to the packing materials is to repaired in a professional manner, repairs to the tank or any equipment components, however, is not permitted without agreement from the manufacturer.
10Krampitz Tanksystem Ltd. (GmbH) - operating and assembly instructions - storage tank container KCD-ISO / KTD-F – issued 07/2010
For outdoor installation, the container must be provided with a position securing device. Its attachment and proof of the securing must be provided by the user on-site, and is only by separate agreement a part of the delivery.

3. DESCRIPTION
3.1 Purpose of the KCD-ISO / KTD-F
The function of the KCD-ISO / KTD-F is to store non-infl ammable, water hazardous liquids, such as heating oil, diesel or mineral oil (new and old oil). The KCD-ISO / KTD-F is designated a storage tank. Its double-walled steel construction meets the highest safety requirements. The cubic-shaped design guarantees the optimum utilisation of space. The KCD-ISO / KTD-F is suitable both for indoor and outdoor operation. In accordance with its general building supervisory approval, the tank is fi re resistant for a period of 30 minutes. The installation area must be level and stable. It may only be set up in areas where additional hazards or requirements do not exist. For operation under special conditions (e.g. in a water conservation area, ex-zone, with non-infl ammable liquids) the appropriate applicable regulations are to be followed. The KCD-ISO / KTD-F is normally manufactured according to the general Building Supervisory Approval no. Z-38.12-23.
NOTE Owing to the general Building Supervisory Approval no. Z-38.12-23, the maximum fi lling volume is set at 90% of the container height.

3.5.7 Suction tube - delivery pipe (AM-920)
The fl oat indicator is a mechanical indi-cator. This permanent indicator displays the percentage volume I relation to the overall height of the tank. The indicator consists of a screw-in body with a dou-ble thread of 2´´-1 ½´´. The fl oat can be simply lowered into the tank via one of the 2´´ sleeves located in the tank roof, following which the screw-in body is tightened in the sleeve. The mechanical indicator is suitable for the KCD-ISO / KTD-F with a height up to 2,000 mm, and must be set for the individual tank height beforehand.

The electrical tank level switch (minimelder) serves to regulate and signal pre-cisely defi ned tank levels. Up to four tank level switches may be installed in a tank using a fourfold cable gland. The switch does not need offi cial approval, since it is only used as a working contact inside the tank facility, such as in controlling the pump “pump on” (minimum contact) or “pump off” (maximum contact). For the alarm switching point “overfi ll” (max-max), however, only approved overfi ll protection controls may be used. The tank level switch can also be used as a simple leak detector. By means of the cable glands located in the fourfold adaptor, the tank level indicator may be set to the desired level and accordingly attached. By rotating the fl oater by 180° on the switching shaft, the level indicator may be easily changed from having an “opening” to a “closing” function. (see diagram).
remove rotate 180° attach
The liquid level switch is made of stainless steel and equipped with a fl exible, oil-resistant cable. The cable has a permitted range of temperature between -5°C and +50°C. The connecting cable may be directly installed in the assembly control.
3.5.11 The electrical level indicator (minimelder) with fl exible fl oater cable (AE-100-E)
Flexible liquid level indicators have a plastic cable with a breaker head made of stainless steel, in which a short sliding tube has been incorporated.Liquid level indicators measure the level of a liquid in a tank. There are two distinct types of these indicators:a.) a switching system with tank level switches, andb.) an electronic measuring system with meter gauges.
With tank level switches, the signals may be directly used for automatic con-trols, regulation, or signalling. With an electronic metering system, the signal from the measuring sensor is converted in the associated evaluation electronics into corresponding switching signals and tank level indicators. With an electro-nic overfi ll protection level indicator, the signal is converted from the measuring sensor in the evaluation electronics into a corresponding switching signal.

Evaluation electronics
For ease of measuring the levels, the KCD-ISO / KTD-F may be fi tted with an electronic level indicator. This “Level Control VI” electronic level indicator is a complete metering system for measuring tank levels in containers containing heating oil and diesel. With this system, the appropriate tank height can be adjusted and up to four limits set. The relay contacts are galvanically separated from the system. The system will display the tank level (in percentage terms) on the evaluation unit. The electronic level indicator is checked and delivered – after pre-calibra-tion – suitable for the individual tank.
Changing the AE-100 switching direction from an opening to closing function
The evaluation unit AE-115-VI-aThe evaluation unit is a process-controlled tank level indicator with limit level functions. The unit is simple to operate, and may also be used for other metering procedures. The requirement for this is a 4-20 mA sensor, e.g. for pressure, temperature or fl ow measurements. The evaluation unit is constructed as a series built-in device for installation on DIN-standard tracks. This ensures a simple integration into existing control systems. Description / technical data- operating voltage 24 V DC; power consumption 150 mA; analogue output signal 4 .. 20 mA (galvanically separated)- switching point setting for limit adjustment in the entire measuring range- four potential-free close contacts with a contact load capacity of 230 V/ 2 A- area of application: heating oil and diesel only

Tank level indicators are usually used for the automatic switching on and off of pumps, if the prescribed maximum or minimum levels in tanks are vio-lated. In addition, remote signalling or automatic emergency shutdowns – in (for example) the case that the tank level falls below the minimum level prescribed – are possible. There are two types of tank level indicators - fi xed and fl exible. Fixed level indicators have a massive metal sliding tube (nor-mally of brass or stainless steel), on which a fl oater with an integrated magnetic ring glides in the sliding tube via an electrical reed contact switch – the magnetic ring serving to open or close the reed contact, as appropriate.

3.5.14 The electronic vacuum leakage indicator, 230 V (AE-350)
Operating light (green)Alarm light (red)
“Alarm tone” tumbler switch
The leakage indicator contains in a shock-resistant plastic housing the indica-tor and control elements, a vacuum pump, a pressure switch, a printed circuit board (PCB) with the electromagnetic components for preparing the output signals, a fi lter and three conduit connections for the pneumatic connection with the tank’s control room. With an operating voltage (230 V, 50 Hz) and established vacuum, the green operating light will be on.
The leakage indicator produces a constant vacuum (ca. -400mbar) in the tank control room and will signal an alarm in the event of a vacuum fall off (= incre-ase in pressure) (less than ca. -340 mbar). The alarm signal is both optical (red alarm light) and acoustic, and may be ?? via a potential-free relay contact (1 changeover switch). The acoustic alarm can be switched off by fi rst removing the plugging and then activating the “alarm tone” tumbler switch. In the event of a power cut, the alarm will not be trigge-red. On power being restored, the device is immediately operable. Any leakage occurring in the meantime will be signalled. Leakage monitoring work must be carried out by approved specialists.
WARNINGThe leakage indicator operates with a 230 V, 50Hz supply voltage. This voltage can – with incorrect handling – cause very severe burns. A person coming into contact with the supply voltage may receive fatal injuries. Before opening the leakage indicator or before performing maintenance and cleaning work, make sure that the supply voltage is switched off!

3.5.16 The static vacuum leakage indicator (AM-359)
The static vacuum leakage indicator is suitable for tank installations wi-thout a fi xed power supply. It consists of a shock-resistant, stainless steel housing with a capsule measuring device and glycerine fi lling. The alarm is optically displayed by a pointer. The vacuum is produced by an external pump in the leakage monitoring room and made vacuum-proof by being closed off. In the event of the vacuum falling off, the alarm will be trigge-red by the pointer entering the red area.
The LAZ inspection – in the form of a visual check – is to be undertaken

3.5.15 Electronic vacuum leakage indicator, 24 V (AE-354)
Vacuum (negative pressure) leakage indicator for monitoring double-walled containers. By means of the leakage indicator, a vacuum is produced and maintained in the control room of the double-walled container. In the event of a leakage, air or vapours will be sucked into the control room causing an increase in pressure. Mild leaks will be compensated for by the pump being switched on. Larger leakages cannot be compensated for owing to the limited pumping capacity. The vacuum (negative pres-sure) will continue to fall. When it reaches the alarm vacuum pressure level, an optical and acoustic alarm will be triggered.
In the event of a leakage of liquid, various storage material or ground-water will be sucked into the control room. The vacuum will be reduced and the pump switched on – in order to restore the operating vacuum. In time, the storage material or groundwater will be sucked into the suc-tion lines of the leakage indicator. The liquid stop barrier will close, thus separating the pump from the control room. In such a situation, the pump cannot now produce any further vacuum. The remaining vacuum in the control room or the metering lines will be reduced by liquid continuing to be sucked-in. When the alarm vacuum level is reached, the optical and acoustical alarm will be triggered. In this case, the vacuum still existing is so high, that no storage material can escape into the environment.
A LAZ inspection is to be undertaken on a yearly basis, and must be docu-mented. Leakage monitoring must be performed by approved, qualifi ed specialists.
The tank level indicator based on a PTC thermistor for the approved over-fi ll protection is installed using a 2´´ x ¾ ´´ connection adaptor in a 2´´ sleeve in the tank roof. The limit indicator is a device that works together with the top-up moni-toring (evaluation electronics) on the road tanker in preventing an overfi ll of stationary tanks.Stationary tanks for storing diesel fuel or heating oil, which are fi lled from a road tanker, must be equipped with a limit indicator.

The permitted degree of fi lling for the container must not exceed 95%. The resistance of the PTC thermistor changes dramatically when immersed in liquid. This impulse is transmitted via a switching amplifi er built into the tanker, which triggers the actuator (blocking device) on the tanker.
3.5.18.1 The overfi ll protection (AE-200) with evaluation electronics (AE-201)
The tank level indicator based on a PTC thermistor for the approved over-fi ll protection is installed using a 2´´ x ¾´´ connection adaptor in a 2´´ slee-ve in the tank roof (see point concerning connection adaptor). An approved overfi ll protection generally must be installed, if the tank is fi lled by means of an electric pump and fi xed pipes (see assembly in-structions regarding overfi ll protection). The overfi ll protection must be adjusted to the max. permitted tank level.

3.5.18 The overfi ll protection
All tanks for storing diesel fuel or heating oil, and fi lled via a tanker con-nection, (except for tanks above ground with a capacity of maximum 1,000 litres, which must be manually fi lled using a dispensing nozzle wi-thout a fi xed pipe), must be equipped with an overfi ll protection, which will shut off the fi lling process or trigger an acoustic alarm in time before the permitted level limit is reached. Tanks with a capacity over 1,000 litres for storing diesel fuel or heating oil, and fi lled from tankers or demountable (portable) tanks, must be equip-ped with a limit indicator, enabling the fi lling protection process on road tankers or dismountable tanks to function properly (see TRbF 20 § 9.3).Tanks for storing other water hazardous and infl ammable liquids such as mineral oil, and fi lled automatically, are to be equipped with an approved overfl ow protection. This overfi ll protection may not be used as an opera-tive switching point for monitoring the refi lling process.
NOTE Tanks may only be fi lled up to the level corresponding to the permitted fi lling level. The permitted fi lling level depends on the type of liquid used (cubic expansion coeffi cient; see TRbF 20, § 9.3).
NOTE The overfi ll protection used must be approved for the relevant storage liquid.
The tank level indicator based on a PTC thermistor for the approved over-fi ll protection is installed using a 2´´ x 1´´ connection adaptor in a 2´´ sleeve in the tank roof.

The oil alarm unit’s sensor registers the different behaviour of air and liquids. It is installed at the lowest point of the monitoring room. The integrated signal component constantly monitors the sensor’s electrical output signals. The green light is on when it is in operation. If the sensor is in air, its signal component registers normal operating conditions: the green operating light is on, the red alarm light is off, and the relay is closed. If the sensor is im-mersed in oil, a leak (alarm) is registered: the red operation light comes on, the acoustic alarm is sounded and the relay is opened. In the event of alarm, the acoustic alarm signal may be switched off by pressing the “acknowledgement” button. Pressing this button a second time will reactivate it. By the use of several sensors on one evaluation unit, the affected sensors may be closed by means of the number of the yellow monitoring light’s fl ashing pulses. The successive fl ashing sequence comprises a period of approx. three seconds. In the case of a power failure, the alarm will not be triggered. When power is restored the device is immediately operable. Any leakage occurring in the meantime will be registered. The green operating light will come on as soon as power is supplied to the oil alarm unit. The test button enables a functional monitoring by simulating the alarm event.
The oil alarm unit is an approved leakage detection warning system. Up to 5 sensors may be attached to one evaluation unit. The unit is used to quickly register any leakages of water or hazardous liquids (in accordance with VawS). If a sensor is immersed in liquid, the signal component registers the chan-ged signal from the sensor, produces an optical and acoustic alarm and, in addition, activates the relay for the output signal.
The oil alarm unit consists of a signal component and up to fi ve sensors. The signal component and sensors are connected to each other by a three-wire cable up to 10 metres in length. The unit’s sensor consists of an infra-red transmitter and infra-red receiver, set at a fi xed distance from each other. Together, they make up a photoelectric barrier. If there is air between the transmitter and receiver, most of the transmitted signals will reach the receiver – the optocoupler principle. Contained in a shock-resistant plastic housing, the signal component consists of the display and operating elements as well as all the electronic com-ponents for evaluating the sensor’s signals and converting them into a digital output signal. The output signal is then available as a potential-free relay contact (change-over).
