E-Manager MidiThe E-Manager Midi is an electronic control unit for seed and fertiliser metering.

The system regulates, monitors and controls all connected assembly groups of the drill.

CAUTION

Danger of accidents due to wrong operation.

¾ Start operating the E-Manager only after reading the operating instructions.

¾ Observe the Maestro operating instructions in addition!

¾ Familiarise yourself with the E-Manager be-fore commissioning.

¾ Strict compliance with the applicable accident prevention regulations and other generally accepted regulations concerning technical as well as occupational health and safety is mandatory when working with the system.

¾ After switching off the terminal, switch off all hydraulic functions selected from the tractor.

EquipmentThe E-Manager Midi can be operated with all ISOBUS-compatible terminals.

The software is the same for all machines and equipment variants. Only the connected assembly groups must be activated and the corresponding settings must be made.

All components and sensors are connected to computer and terminal by means of the wiring looms. The computer receives the information, evalu-ates these and displays the operating status and data on the terminal.

If entered or fixed default values are exceeded or fallen short of, or in case of faults, the monitor display is interrupted and the fault is indicated.

ComputerAll Maestro are equipped with a master com-puter. In addition, all Maestro with lateral folding or micro-granulate device are equipped with a slave computer. Software version 10.xx is installed on the master computer and version 1.xx (red lids) or 11.xx (grey lids) is installed on the slave computer.Maestro with lateral folding and micro-granulate device have an additional slave computer; the software 3.xx (red lids) or 13.xx (grey lids) are installed on it. The stickers on the computer indicate the hard-ware version and material number.

MaintenanceThe system is maintenance free.

NOTE

Do not clean computers, plugs and any of the electric components and metering units with a high pressure cleaner or direct water jet.

Distinction of folding

Rear foldingFor machine with rear folding, the seed bar is folded behind the seed hopper. The machines are equipped with the small hy-draulics and use an hydraulic pressure switch for the working signal.

Rear folding - example of Maestro 18 SW

Lateral folding For machines with lateral folding, the seed bar is folded and placed to the side on the seed hopper. The machines are equipped with the large hy-draulics and use a potentiometer for the working signal.

Lateral folding - example of Maestro 24 SW

Page 8: OPERATING INSTRUCTIONS E-Manager stro Midi · and equipment variants. Only the connected assembly groups must be activated and the corresponding settings must be made. All components

Installing the E-ManagerIf the tractor is equipped with ISOBUS, the machine can be directly connected with the ISOBUS plug. All other tractors must first be fitted with the basic equipment prior to the initial installation.

Installation on tractors with ISOBUS equipmentIn case of existing ISOBUS equipment on the tractor, the drill can be controlled from the tractor terminal or from an additional terminal.

NOTE

For machines with 24 or more rows the cable for the additional electric power supply must be directly connected to the tractor battery.

Control with tractor terminal ¾ Plug the machine connecting cable into the ISOBUS socket on the tractor and switch on the terminal.

¾ If the terminal supports the ISOBUS UT func-tion, the control screens are loaded automati-cally upon activation and the machine can be controlled with the tractor terminal.

Control with additional terminal ¾ Plug the machine connecting cable into the ISOBUS socket on the tractor.

¾ Fasten the terminal at a suitable place in the cabin. The vision on the road should not be impaired.

¾ Connect the terminal to the ISOBUS cabin socket using the supplied cable.

¾ After switching on the unit, the control screens are loaded and the machine can be controlled with the terminal.

¾ To be able to load the control screens on a terminal, the UT function must be activated on the target terminal. The UT function must be deactivated on the auxiliary terminal.

Installation on tractors without ISOBUS equipmentFor all tractors without ISOBUS equipment the basic equipment must be installed in the tractor during the initial installation.

The cables for the basic equipment and the cable for the additional power supply of the motors with the large machines must be directly connected to the tractor battery.

NOTE

The cables must under no circumstances be connected to any other plugs in the cab.

The cables must be protected against chafing and the insulation must not be damaged.

All connections must have good contact with the battery. Assembly faults will lead to voltage drop and indefinable error messages and failures.

WARNING

Danger of traffic accidents due to restricted view. ¾ Mount the terminal so that the view of the road is not interfered with.

Basic equipment ISOBUS

Colour displays

NOTE

The colour bars provide a fast and helpful overview of the drilling quality.Because colour changes are noticed more quickly than numerical values reactions to changes are quicker.

Green bar Green shows data and values in the tolerance range. The tolerance values are determined in the input screens by the operator and must be complied with to ensure successful placement of seed.

Yellow bar When coming close to the tolerance values, the bar will change to yellow. The operator should perceive this as a warning. The reason may be changes of the field of drilling conditions, technical faults or signs of contam-ination and leaks. These causes must be eliminated for the values to lie again within the tolerance limits and to achieve the desired quality in seed placement.

Red bar A red display must be understood as a Stop command. Faults or deviations have occurred causing a seed placement quality that is no longer ac-ceptable. The cause must be eliminated. Deactivating monitoring systems, changing limiting values or ignoring the display does not solve the problem.

Installation

¾ Install the terminal bracket in a suitable place within the view and the operating range of the driver.

¾ Route the thick cable to the battery. ¾ Connect both fuse holders tightly and durably with the cable.

¾ Connect the two red cables tightly and per-manently with the battery positive and the two black cables with the battery negative terminal.

¾ Fasten the ISOBUS socket at the rear end of the tractor. Ensure good access and motion space for the lifting hydraulics.

¾ Fasten the terminal bracket to the back of the terminal and plug the connecting cable into terminal.

NOTE

The associated operating instructions must be followed for operating the terminal.

Current display for single grain metering unitThe current consumption of all motors is dis-played here. Increased current consumption frequently causes lower speeds. The cause must be eliminated on the motors and single grain metering units. The upper half of the display shows the current consumption and rotation speeds of the single grain metering motors. The bottom section shows the current con-sumption and rotation speeds of the fertiliser metering units. The speed of the motor is reduced if the current consumption becomes too high. Up to 4 Ampere the current consumption is represented by a green bar.

The current consumption of all single grain metering units should preferably be low and uniform. Increased bar values or fluctuating displays indicate a fault of the metering unit.

If the current consumption is higher than 4 Am-pere for longer than 15 seconds, a warning will appear in the info line and the bar display will change to red. At rates higher than 5 ampere the single grain metering unit additionally reduces its speed.

The total current consumption is displayed in ampere. If for machines with a job computer a current of 45 ampere or for machines with two job computers a current of 90 ampere is applied, a warning signal because of excessive current consumption appears after 10 seconds. The total current consumption indicated may deviate from the actual current consumption.

NOTE

The cause for the excessive current consump-tion must be eliminated to avoid consequential damage or seed faults.

Fertiliser metering motor current displayThe bottom range of the display shows the cur-rent consumption and the rotation speed of the fertiliser metering motors. The current consumption of the metering mo-tors is within the green range up to approx. 11 ampere. A warning signal occurs if the current consump-tion is over 11 ampere for more than one minute. The warning signal repeats as long as the over-load is present. The drive shuts off at a current consumption over 16 ampere. The alarm is signalled. The cause of the fault must be eliminated. For-eign objects are frequently found in the metering unit. The system must subsequently be restarted.

The centre line represents the nominal value for each row. For motors with increased speed the bar rises above the centre line and for hard to move motors the bar ends under the centre line, (as shown in the figure for row 7). If the deviation exceeds the scale value, the bar changes to red (as shown in the figure for row 4). The fault causing this speed drop must be eliminated.

Seed calibrationFor calculating the working speed, the nominal fertiliser quantity must be entered before the calibration process is started. The metering unit must have the correct rotor installed.

Rotor selectionThe size of the rotor depends on:• Amount of fertiliser to be placed.• Working speed• Working width

¾ Follow the quantity tables. The tables indicate the minimum and maximum placing quantities with the available rotor at different working widths and speeds (7, 9 and 12 km/h).

Other rotor sizes for special applications are available on request.

The settings tables are designed for a specific weight of 1 kg/litre. The specific weight must be observed with all fertiliser types. Accordingly, a larger rotor must be installed for a lower specific weight and vice versa.

Fertiliser calibration – electrical metering drive

NOTE

This section refers to calibration with electrical metering motor.

¾ When using a hydraulic metering drive, follow the section Calibration with hydraulic metering drive.

Press the Calibration metering unit 1 soft-key. The menu for fertiliser calibration is displayed.

Calibration speedThe calibration speed can be adjusted in the respective field. A speed of 60 rpm is stored as default. This speed is sufficient under normal conditions. The calibration speed shall approximately correspond to the speed during field work to ensure the filling in the metering cells is roughly the same.

Metering checkThe metering check is a control of the calibration. During drilling the metering accuracy can be test-ed in addition. The same procedure as for seed calibration must be performed for this purpose. The computer retrieves the calibration data from the last seed calibration and uses the revolutions of the new seed calibration to calculate a new value for the calibration quantity. Once the calibration switch has been switched off, this value will be displayed in kg under Cali-bration quantity. If the same fertiliser quantity is used as for the previously performed calibration, the weight of the new calibration must be identical with the default.

¾ Correct the value in case of deviations and check again, if required.

Calibrating micro-granular compoundThe calibration process for micro-granular com-pound is identical with the calibration process for fertiliser. The Maestro CC is equipped with a metering unit for micro-granulate. The Maestro SW comes with two metering units. Metering unit 3 meters the granulate for the left and metering unit 4 for the right side of the machine. The desired granulate quantity is distributed to both metering units by the software. Calibration therefore only needs to be carried out on meter-ing unit 3, which is then automatically transferred to metering unit 4.For machines with slave software 13.02 or higher metering units 3 and 4 can be calibrated separately.

Direct seed calibration inputIf a fertiliser type is used several times, only the initial calibration is required. Calibration factors and installed rotor need to be noted here. When using the same fertiliser again, the value for the calibration factor can be entered directly here.

Direct input may only be used for identical fertil-iser types. The same rotor must also be installed as otherwise a wrong quantity will be placed.

Direct input for liquid fertiliserIf the machine is equipped with a liquid fertiliser system, the calibration factor of approx. 45 puls-es per litre must be entered.

Due to the consistency and density differences the value needs to be adjusted to the actual placing quantity.

¾ Verify the placing quantity. ¾ Check the percentage deviation from the nominal quantity.

¾ Adjust the calibration value by the same percentage.

The deviation can be seen on the Performance data menu page using the calculated quantity in litres compared to the actual quantity placed. If the displayed quantity is lower than that of the actually placed quantity, the calibration value must be reduced and vice versa.

Fertiliser calibration – hydraulic metering driveIf the machine is equipped with a hydraulic me-tering drive, the ball valve used to separate the hydraulic metering drive from the fan circulation, must be closed prior to calibration.

Performance data for a specific period is only recorded when the E-Manager is switched on and the machine is in working position.

If the machine is fitted with metering units for fertiliser or micro-granular compound, the per-formance data of these units are displayed on the second page.

The total distance and total time are increased when the machine is working and at least 1 de-vice has a target value greater than zero. Both are not counted if all devices are deactivated.

The performance data can be completely de-leted for single grain drilling and fertiliser using the CE softkey.

Results page 2/3Here the performance data of the individual rows are listed. The double seeds and faults are listed as percentage of the drilled grains. The total number of drilled grains is shown in thousand seed.

The values in columns 1 and 2 should be rather low. Deviations of individual rows indicate poor set-ting or a defect in the single grain metering unit. This may be caused by leaks in the pneumatic system, but also by contaminated grain sensors.

For machines with more than 12 rows, the results of the other rows appear on the next page.

¾ Run the tractor. ¾ Switch on the vacuum fans and, in case of the central hopper, also the Seed on Demand fan and run it with the recommended default values for speed and vacuum. Pay attention to the operating instructions of the Maestro.

¾ Press the softkey to activate all single grain metering units and start the test.

The single grain metering units start running so the metering discs are filled. Now seed counting starts and the discs are rotated by one turn.

The list shows the grains that have dropped for each single grain metering unit during one revolution (1). In addition, the counters with the lowest and the highest numbers of grains are shown at (2).

The number of grains shall correspond to the pitch of the metering discs. This means, for a disc with 21 holes 21 grains shall drop. The deviation should be max. 1 grain or less.

If the grains of the respective row are collected, several grains could also be counted since the test run comprises 1.5 revolutions.

In case of deviations this row can be selected with the arrows and the test repeated with the softkey to start the selected row. The values are updated after the rotation and can be evaluated accordingly.

Incorrect or differences in the settings in the single grain metering unit or dirt can cause deviations. Some fault causes become apparent by a higher current consumption. The values with the high-est deviations (3) are therefore shown.

Checking the grain sensor

¾ Drop individual grains or a counted number of grains consecutively into the downpipe. The sensor must detect each grain.

Deviations indicate contamination or a sensor fault.

¾ Clean the downpipe with the brush or replace the sensor.

Reminder

In order to avoid faults caused by soiled sensors in the downpipes and an impairment of the seed placement, a reminder to clean the downpipes and check the function of trap rollers will be dis-played after 20 operating hours when switching on the system the next time. The operating instructions of the drill must also be followed for maintenance work.

3. Input of delay time for grain metering. The input value is possible up to max. 10 seconds.

NOTE

This function is only active in manual operation. The delay time is bypassed as soon as Section Control is activated for this product.

Due to the long hoses in the fertiliser system the fertiliser reaches the ground later than the seed. The delay time can be used to compensate for this time difference.Depending on the travel mode the machine must be lowered earlier, as otherwise the headland will become wider. An acoustic signal will sound from the begin-ning of fertiliser metering to the beginning of seed metering.

4. Selection of whether the seed quantity is to be adjusted with the % button or not. The target value is shown flashing if the placing quantity is changed.

5. Selection of whether the fertiliser or granulate quantity is to be adjusted with the % button or not. The target value is shown flashing if the placing quantity is changed. The illustration shows the presentation with liquid fertiliser system.

The status of the grain sensor is automatically set to 0 as soon as the status of the metering drive is set to 0 or 2.

Deactivating the metering drive - Status 0The metering drives can only be deactivated from the outside to the inside.

¾ Select a row and switch off the single grain metering unit by pressing the corresponding softkey twice. The rows are marked on the work screen with a red X in the middle.

Metering drive deactivated.

When a metering motor in the middle of the machine fails, it can be replaced by a metering motor from the outside row. The metering drive of the outside row must be deactivated to be able continue working. It must be kept in mind here that the machine will now work asymmetrically and the bout markers need to be readjusted.

The working width is reduced according to the deactivated rows. This affects the area calcu-lation as well as the Task Controller and Section Control functions. The fertiliser quantity is reduced in accordance with the working width.

¾ The fertiliser hoses must be manually closed in the distributor tower, otherwise, the reduced fertiliser quantity will still be distributed over the entire working width.

Configuring the metering drive - Status 2A 2 appears on the screen as soon as a metering drive is configured here.A red X appears on the display of the work screen in both halves of the bar.

Metering drive switched off

Metering drives can be disabled as desired.

For the purpose of calculation, the working width remains the same. The grain spacing is reduced during sowing be-cause the number of grains/ha is now distributed over less rows at the same working width.

Increase the sensitivity with the + button until warning messages from sensors are displayed on the terminal during normal operation (no seed hose blocked). Then adjust the sensitivity backward by one or two levels using the - button until no more warning messages are displayed.

The placement of different media requires dif-ferent settings.

If the sensitivity setting was made correctly, a warning messages is displayed a soon as a fertiliser hose is blocked.

The Dickey-John configuration for a standard machine with even number of rows is now complete.

NOTE

For standard machines with the same number of sensors on both half-widths, no further settings are required. The sensors do not need to be assigned exactly to their actual coulter. They are automatically assigned to the corresponding half-width if the loops are assigned to the correct half-width and the correct metering unit.

The individual row motors can be checked here. It can also be learned here which single grain metering units are soiled and which motors run with difficulty.

40 rpm is specified as speed for the test. Hard to move motors require more current to reach this speed. The test can be run with and without vacuum fan to be able to better pinpoint the causes in case of deviations.

A row can be selected with these softkeys.

The selected motors can be switched on or off with this softkey. The single grain metering units run until the soft-key is pressed again.

The entries in the Reverse column can be deleted with the CE softkey.

The software version of the row computers can be displayed with this softkey.

2. ReversingThis indicates how often a drive has actually tried to loosen a blockage itself by reversing. This can happen when grains are stuck. The entries can be deleted again with the CE softkey.

3. The set transmission rate of the Bus signals (baud rate) is indicated here.

¾ Switch on all rows consecutively to be able to better detect deviations on current con-sumption. The deviations should be as low as possible.

Extended diagnostics for row drivesWhen the system is started, the serial numbers of the installed row computers are compared against the saved nominal configuration. To be able to use the extended row diagnostics, the row computer software 2903/10 must be installed.

Extended diagnose for row drives

The arrangement of the row comput-ers can be saved with this softkey.

Saving the serial numbers

The serial numbers must be saved again when commissioning, changing or replacing row com-puters in the machine. They may not be saved again in the event of an error. The diagnostic function will then no longer work. The computers are identified by their serial number. If no serial numbers have been saved, the page of row diagnostics is displayed on the terminal when starting the system. If exactly one drive is detected for each row, the arrangement can be saved with the softkey SN SAVE.If there is a problem when starting the system, the arrangement cannot be saved. If row com-puters are replaced, the configuration must be saved again. The system will only be updated after leaving and restarting the diagnostics section.
