Beaumont and District Agricultural Society Operating Procedures: Community Garden

April 2, 2006

The Beaumont and District Agriculture Society will operate a Community Garden at the fairgrounds. 1. This plan shall be monitored and reviewed on an annual basis by the Society for changes and amendments as necessary. 2. The community Garden shall be open to the public on a first come first served basis as names are received by the Garden coordinator. 3. There shall be 24 plots with each plot measuring 16' x 32'. For the 2006 season there will be no rental fee. 4. Each plot shall be individually marked off and there shall be a perimeter fence surrounding the entire garden. 5. Up-keep of the garden and control and maintenance of weeds is the responsibility of each Gardener (may be single person or group) assigned a plot. If the plot is not being maintained nor weeds controlled the Gardener will receive a warning. If after receiving the warning there is no change in maintenance of the plot the Society reserves the right to release the Gardener and plow under the garden site to control weeds and to ensure a nicely maintained site or, if there is a waiting list to reassign the plot. The Gardener shall be notified of this action prior to its occurrence and shall not receive any reimbursement for costs incurred. 6. It shall be the responsibility of the Society to maintain weed control on any unassigned plots. 7. Natural weed control is recommended and encouraged. If however a chemical is used to control weeds it may only be applied on a calm day with no wind in order to ensure contamination of other plots do not occur. 8. A water pump and hose shall be available to assist gardeners with watering their garden plots. 9. At the beginning of each season the garden plots shall be tilled over by the Society. 10. It is the responsibility of each gardener to provide their own seed and garden tools. 11. The Society will endeavor to have the garden sites prepared and ready for gardeners by May 1st of each year. 12. Should there be more gardeners than plots available those that do not receive a garden in one year will be put on a waiting list and the Society will endeavor to ensure that these individuals have a chance to obtain a garden in the forthcoming year. If a plot is taken back from any gardener persons on the waiting list will be given the opportunity to take over the plot.
