IMPORTANT SAFETY INSTRUCTIONSWARNING - To reduce the risk of fire, electrical shock, or injury to personswhen using your appliance, followbasic precautions, including the follow-ing:

1. Read these operating instructions be-fore using your dryer for the firsttime, as this is for your own safetyand for the protection of your ma-chine.

2. Remember to remove the door whendisposing of an old machine to pre-vent children from accidently lockingthemselves in the machine and en-dangering their lives.

3. Do not install or store this appliancewhere it will be exposed to theweather.

4. Do not install your dryer in roomswhere freezing temperatures mayoccur. The reliability of the electroniccontrol system may be impaired.

5. This machine should only be used fordrying the following fabrics:

– Items which can be machine driedas specified by the laundry carelabel.

– Items which have been washed inwater.

6. The following fabrics pose a fire ha-zard:

– Items which contain foam rubber, rubber or rubberlike components.

– Items which have been treated withinflammable cleaning agents, suchas gasoline or dry-cleaning solvents.

– Items containing hair lacquer, hair-spray, nail polish remover or similarsubstances.

7. Clean the lint filter before and aftereach load.

8. Do not dry articles that have beenpreviously cleaned in, washed in,soaked in, or spotted with gasoline,dry-cleaning solvents, other flamm-able or explosive substances as theygive off vapors that could ignite orexplode.

9. Do not allow children to play on or inthe appliance. Close supervision ofchildren is necessary when the ap-pliance is used near the children.

10.To avoid back-pressure or accumula-tion of exhaust fumes, provide ade-quate room ventilation, by means ofpermanent vents or an open window.

11.Always close the door after use toprevent children from leaning on thedoor and causing the dryer to tilt.

12.Keep area around the exhaust open-ing and adjacent surrounding areasfree from accumulation of lint, dustand dirt.

IMPORTANT SAFETY INSTRUCTIONS

5

13.The interior of the machine and ex-haust duct should be cleaned peri-odically by qualified personnel.

14.Do not reach into the dryer if thedrum is moving.

15.Do not tamper with controls.

16.Do not repair or place any part of theappliance or attempt any servicingunless specifically recommended inthe user maintenance instruction orin published user repair instructionsthat you understand and have theskills to carry out.Repairs to electrical appliancesshould only carried out by qualifiedpersonnel.Incorrectly repaired machines maypose a considerable risk to the user.

17.Formation of lint.Lint is principally the result of frictionwhen items are worn and washed.Machine-drying hardly causes anylint to form and, as has been estab-lished by reseach institutes, has noeffect on the lifetime of fabrics.

18.Warning - Do not use fabric sof-tener/anti static dryer sheets.Residues from these products block-up (clog) the lint filter causing prema-ture failure of the dryer.

Miele dryers are designed to drylaundry without static cling. How-ever, should fabric softener be re-quired, use liquid fabric softener inthe wash cycle.

Clean lint filter mesh monthly by wash-ing/scrubbing with hot soap andwater.

19.Do not place items exposed tooils in your dryer. Items contaimed with oils may contribute to a chemical reaction that couldcause a load to catch fire.

OPERATING INSTRUCTIONSWARNING - To reduce the riskof fire, electric shock, or injuryto persons, read the IMPORT-ANT SAFETY INSTRUCTIONSbefore operating this appliance.

Loading the machineLoad the laundry loosely into thedrum.

Duvet covers and pillowcasesshould be fastened before drying inorder to prevent small items from roll-ing inside of them.

Important: Check that laundry can-not be trapped by the door as thismay cause damage to the fabric.

Unloading the machineIf the wash is not removed at the endof the drying program, the machinewill automatically enter the anti-crease cycle for 60 minutes. This en-tails the drum being rotated at shortintervals in order to reduce the forma-tion of creases.

Once the laundry has beenremoved, check that the drum isempty. Any items left in the drumcould be damaged through over-drying during the next program.

Clean the lint filter after each dryingcycle to prevent excessive energyconsumption, longer program timesand the risk of fire.

The door should always be closedafter use.

OPERATING INSTRUCTIONS

Notes on laundry careBefore drying, check the instructionson the fabric care label.

The following fabrics should not bedried in a tumble dryer:– Woollens and wool blends

These fabrics tend to become mattedand shrink.

– Items filled with downThe fine fabric interior tends to shrink, depending on the quality of the item involved.

– Pure linenThese items should only be machine-dried if specified as suitable by the manufacturer on the textile care label. The surface of the fabric may other-wise tend to become “rough”.

Miele dryers have been designed todry laundry free of static cling, withoutthe use of dryer softener sheets or simi-lar products. The dryer continuouslymonitors the moisture content of thelaundry, and automatically shuts off theheat when the selected degree of dry-ness is reached. Through the use of acool down period, (where the machineoperates without heat), cool, static freelaundry is the end result. Dryer softenersheets perform the same function bydepositing a chemical residue on boththe clothes and the interior of the dryer.Over time, this coating may lead to per-formance reductions in the dryer.

If fabric softening is desired, it is moreconvenient, economical and beneficial tothe clothing if a liquid softener is auto-matically dispensed while the clothes arein the washing machine. Please see thewashing machine operating instructionsfor directions on how to automatically dis-pense a liquid softener.

Notes:

Knitted fabrics and flannel sheets tendto shrink when washed for the first timeand also when dried. They should notbe overdried (Extra dry)!

Starched laundry can also be dried inthe tumble dryer.

Permanent press items should bebriefly spun in the washing machine be-fore drying. Items which are prone tocreasing should not be dried in the“PERMANENT PRESS- Normal +” - Pro-gram.

Drip-dry shirts made of pure cottonmay tend to crease, depending on thequality of their finish. These items should be dried in a“Hand iron”program.Permanent press fabrics tend to creasemore as the size of the load increases. This is particularly true of very delicatefabrics. The load should be reduced to1.5 kg or, if necessary, to 1 kg.

Do not dry new dark-colored fabricstogether with light-colored items asthey may discolor.

Notes on laundry care

9

Program selectionFunctional descriptionAn electronic sensor system monitorsthe moisture content of the laundry.Once the required degree of dryness isreached, cold air then enters the drumto cool the laundry. The drying program is then terminated.

Problem solving guideElectrical appliances should only be repaired by qualified personnel. Incor-rectly repaired machines may put the user at risk. There are, however, minorproblems which can be corrected without contacting the Service Department.

What to do if, . . . ? Cause . . . Remedy . . .

. . . the tumble dryer fails tostart when turned on?

Check whether the “On”indicator lights up. If so, failureto start may be due to anincorrect program selectionprocedure.

Repeat the switch-on procedurein the correct sequence, asoutlined in the “ProgramSelection” chapter.

If the “On” indicator lamp doesnot illuminate, check that:

– The “ON/OFF” button is depressed.

– The door is properly closed.– The machine is plugged in

and the fuse or circuit breaker has not tripped.

. . . the laundry is not suffi-ciently dry?

The load consists of dissimilaritems (size and fabrics).

Select a longer drying program.

Small loads or individual itemsmay cause the program toterminate the cycle prematurely.

Small loads can be time-dried.

. . . the drying times are toolong?

The lint filter is clogged. Clean the lint filter in the door.

The laundry was not spun in thewasher for a sufficient time.

Make sure that the laundry isthoroughly spun before drying.

. . . the “anti-crease” indicatorlamp in the sequence indica-tor display starts flashing?

– Turn the program selectorto “finish”.

– Turn the machine off andthen on again.

– Select a program.– Press the “Start” button.

If the indicator lamp startsflashing again, this indicates afault in the machine. Please contact the MieleService Dept.

15

What to do if, . . . ? Cause . . . Remedy . . .

. . . the drum door opens dur-ing the drying cycle?

The machine has overheated. The temperature limiter openedthe drum door and caused themachine to turn offautomatically. Possible reasons foroverheating:– The lint filter in the door is

clogged.– The vent duct is blocked.– The vent aperture (e.g.

louvred window vent, wall vent) is blocked.

Before restarting the program, proceed as follows:– Release the ON/OFF button.– Clean the affected part of the

machine.– Turn on the machine again.– Reselect the terminated

program.– Press the “Start” button.

If the drum door opens again, the Miele Service Dept. shouldbe contacted.

19

Installation

The machine should be level to ensuresafe and proper operation. Minor dis-crepancies do not, however, have anadverse effect on operation.

The machine can be leveled by turn-ing the legs clockwise or counter-clockwise as necessary.

Turn the counternuts up and tightenagainst the bottom.

Where to install the machine

The space required by the ventduct should be taken into consider-ation when calculating the distancebetween the machine and a wall orother appliances.

The tumble dryer can also be placedon top of a Miele washing machine fora stacked installation.

An appropriate stacking kit is requiredand can be obtained from your Mieledealer, or the Miele Parts Dept.

Installation

20

Installation - ventingThe moist air from the dryer must bevented to the outside.

The appliance should not be ventedinto a chimney, a wall, a ceiling, orany concealed spaces of the building.

When installing, try to avoid:– very long venting systems– too many bends or angles– tight cornersotherwise . . .. . . the drying result will be affected,. . . drying will take longer and use more

energy.Materials suitable for venting:– rigid metal pipe– flexible metal pipe

Install the venting in such a way thatthe expelled air cannot be drawninto the machine.

Do not vent the dryer into a flueused by gas or fuel boilers orheaters.

A vent connector is included as stand-ard. It should be pressed into the ventoutlet and will enable the connection ofexhaust pipe.

Before installation, disconnect thetumble dryer from the electrical sup-ply, (unplug from the wall socket, orisolate at the main fuse box).

The exhaust connection canbe made:– at the rear or– at the left or right side of the machine

Installation at the rearThe machine comes supplied with theconnector installed on the rear exhaustport.

Installation at the left or right side ofthe machineEach side exhaust port has a framedexhaust cap.

Only the cap should be removed, and not the frame.Exchange the rear exhaust connec-tor for the side cap, and vice versa.Install the exhaust pipes.

Installation - venting

21

The shorter the exhaust ductwork, themore efficient the dryer will be. Ex-pelled air is slowed down in the ductsdue to friction against the inner walls, therefore the shorter and smoother theinner walls are, the less friction willoccur. An elbow or bend creates more frictionthan a straight duct. An additional ductlength factor must therefore be addedfor each elbow or bend (see Table I).This factor expresses the resistance ofthe bend in terms of a straight length ofduct. The additional length factor is thenadded to the measured duct length togive the effective duct length.A larger duct diameter also helps to re-duce friction. The duct diameter shouldtherefore be increased with increasingduct length.

To calculate the effective duct length.

Measure the actual duct length.Establish the number of elbows orbends necessary, noting the type ofbend, angle and radius involved(see Table I).Add the additional length factor asspecified in Table I to the actual ductlength to give the effective ductlength. The necessary duct diameter shouldthen be found in Table II.

Note:

Drying times and energy consumptionremain unaltered for 100 mm duct upto a total length of 10 m. Longer duct may lead to slight in-creases in drying times and energyconsumption but will not impair thefunction of the machine as long as thenecessary duct diameter is used (seeTable II).
