To add or subtract mixed numbers, you must find COMMON DENOMINATORS.

Subtracting Mixed NumbersSometimes we may need to rename a mixed number by BORROWING in order to solve a problem.

Multiplying & Dividing Mixed NumbersMixed numbers MUST be changed to IMPROPER FRACTIONS before carrying out the operation.
Steps to do this:a) Multiply the whole number by the
DENOMINATOR.b) ADD that number to the numerator.c) Place that number over the ORIGINAL
denominator.d) Solve using the rules from “operations with
fractions” notes.

1. Take the whole number and multiply it by the denominator.
2. Add that number to the numerator.
3. Put that number over the same denominator.
