Introducing International Business Research 2015
In an increasingly globalizing world it is important for companies to look further than the borders of their own country. In fact, Dutch companies have to keep expanding their scope even outside of Europe to attain continuous growth.
International Business Research is the perfect way for companies to gain knowledge about upcoming economies. During the last 26 years, the Interna- tional Business Research initiative has helped a large amount of companies, from small and medium enterprises to multinationals, expand their knowledge of new emerging markets.
The strength of International Business Research comes from the fact that it offers tailor-made market research at cost price carried out by thoroughly selectedstudents. These students are supervised by two or three senior professors. Fur-thermore, IBR is guided by a carefully selected advisory board.
International Business Research is the perfect opportunity to gain knowledge of the promising Chilean market.
What we offer
IBR Chile offers your company tailor-made, professional research at cost price. We have the capabilities to investigate organizations and markets in an objective manner and pro-vide you with specific knowledge about Chile. The research will be performed in close col-laboration with contracting companies to make sure it will be customized to your needs.
General Preparation Phase
Reporting Phase
Specific Research Phase
In this phase, students’ knowledge of Chile, market re-search and methodological research will be improved.
During this phase, the specific needs of your company will be thoroughly examined. Also, the set-up of the research, the preliminary research and the field research in Chile will be done.
The last phase will consist of completing the research. Results will be presented to your company in a final research report. All results will be handled confidentially.
Why Chile?
In past years Chile has been the number one receiver of foreign direct investment in South America. This comes as no surprise since it is often considered the most stable economy in Latin America. The Chilean economy, with a GDP of €249.9 billion, has shown an aver-age GDP growth of 5% in the first decade of this century. Due to this development, Chile has surpassed the status of a developing country and is now recognized as a high income economy by the World bank. Also, Chile is the sole South American member of the OECD. The country is often identified by both Asian and European investors as the gateway to South America. Since the Chilean GDP depends for one third on exports, Chile is a great supporter of free trade. As a result, Chile continues to engage in Free Trade Agreements with countries all over the world.
Interesting Sectors in Chile
Renewable Energy - Chile has been decreasing its dependency on fossil fuels. The gov-ernment accomplishes this by subsidizing renewable energy projects. The great geo-graphical diversity of Chile offers plenty of possibilities in hydro energy, solar energy and wind energy.Water management - Several opportunities exist to invest in Chile’s water management. The need for both waste water treatment and drink water supply continues to rise. Sev-eral factors such as water intensive mining techniques, increased agricultural irrigation and climate change contribute to the increase in demand for these services.Agriculture - Chile has a thriving agricultural sector. Due to an opposite seasonal harvest when compared to the Northern hemisphere, Chile exports during their harvests but also has the need to import during other seasons. This creates a two way possibility for Dutch companies active in the agricultural business.Consumer goods - With the highest average income (PPP) in South America, €16.370,Chil-eans are looking for good ways to spend their money. The ease of doing business, favor-able tax rates and the Free Trade Agreement with the EU allow for many opportunities to make use of the Chilean market.

“On several occasions IBR has proven to us that the research conducted for our company was detailed and of a very high standard. Every report helped us to make a final decision to enter a market or to refrain from making further investments. “On behalf of EA Broekema, I can warmly recommend the International Business Research (IBR) initiative. Their reports provided us with valuable intelligence about the market of conveyor belts in these countries, which are key to our growth strategy. It was a great pleasure to work with these highly enthusiastic students, who came well prepared and were very committed to the task. The young and dedicated teams brought this special energy that added fun to the work.I strongly suggest that entrepreneurs consider IBR when exploring opportunities in emerging markets.”J. “It is with pleasure that I endorse the International Business Research initiative. In a more globalized world it is also for the Faculty of Economics and Business of the University of Groningen important to have an increasing international scope. Furthermore, the FEB continues to increase the connection between students and businesses. International Business Research is the perfect combination of academic training and real life market research. With International Business Research, companies have the chance to get in contact with carefully selected and highly motivated students.”Prof. Dr. J.H.
