Thissimplefacecoveringisperfectforanovicesewer.

Thechoiceoffabricisimportant:useatight-weavefabric,suchascotton,cottonlawn,polycottonorquiltingsquares.Avoidusingstretchorsyntheticfabrics,butyoucouldusepillowcases,duvetcoversormen’sshirts.Thefabricmustbewashableandyoushouldbeabletoholdituptothelightandnotbeabletoseethroughtheweave.

YouwillneedSewingmachineorhand-sewingneedlePieceoffabric:measuring31cmx46cmThreadTies:2hairbands(uselengthsofelasticorshoelaces,ifyoudon’thaveanyhairbands)

NOTE:Whiteindicatesrightsideoffabricandthegreyindicatesthewrongsideoffabricinthediagrams.

Instructions

1. Foldyourcutpieceoffabricinhalflengthways,rightsidestogetherandmatchingthetopedgestogetherneatly.

2. Usingasewingmachineorhand-sewingrunningstitchwithaneedleandthread,jointhematchededges1cminfromtheedgeofthefabric.

3. Turnthefabricright-sideoutwards,sothatthestitchingishiddenontheinsideandpositionthetubeoffabricsothattheseamisinthecentreofoneside.Pressflat(usinganiron,ideally).

4. Toformthepleats(folds)inyourfacecovering,foldthefabric3timesas

shown(thiswillcreate3pleats).Pinorclipthefoldsinplace.

5. Feedoneshortendofyourpleatedfabricthroughonehairbandanddothe

sameontheotherside(orpositionyourlengthsofelasticorshoelacesat

eithersideofthefacecovering).Youshouldhaveonehairbandoneachendofthefacecovering.

6. Foldtheendsofyourfabricoverthebands(orelasticorshoelaces)toencasetheminaloosechanneleithersideofthefacecovering.Pinorclipinplace.

7. Stitchtheturnedfabricinplace,usingyoursewingmachineoraneedleandthread.Useasecurebackstitchtoholdtheseamclosed.Ifyouusedalengthofelasticorshoelaces,tiethemaroundyourheadtothecorrectlengthtosecure.Ifyouusedhairbands,simplyhookthemoveryourears.Yourfacecoveringisreadytowear!
