THE LATEST ON 3G HOME ZONE

WHAT’S GOING ON?

From March, we’re bringing 3G Home Zone to more areas! We’ll be expanding our Home Zone coverage to an additional 200+ regional areas which includes the majority of regional towns.

That means, where we used to cover 58% of Australians, we will now be able to service a whopping 76% of the Australian population – that’s up 18%.

WHAT ELSE IS HAPPENING?

In March, Map Blaster and the SOS Service Qualification will be updated to include the new areas where 3G Home Zone is serviceable.

There will be no changes to the current processes. YOS Stores please refer to yourGuide via Yes Central for the current processes.

WHY ARE WE DOING IT?

Previously, 3G Home Zone was only available to those customers residing in Metro areas and we were unable to provide a solution to fix poor in-building coverage to those living in Regional areas.

ABOUT OPTUS 3G HOME ZONE

WHAT’S 3G HOME ZONE?

The Optus 3G Home Zone is an easy to install device

that boosts customer’s 3G coverage at home to up to 5

bars of reception.

By giving customers their own dedicated mobile coverage,

3G Home Zone can help combat those pesky dropped calls

and lazy data and texts. And that means a better network

experience at home for our customers.

HOW DOES IT WORK?

Connected to a customer’s existing home broadband, 3G Home Zone creates a strong, secure and sharable zone of 3G

coverage within a 30-metre radius. And customers will know if they’re connected, because they’ll hear three big beeps when

making a call. Plus if they wander outside the coverage zone, where possible their mobile will just hand the call over to their

nearest tower.

What's more, customers can control who uses the signal. Up to four Optus 3G phones can be used at once, and up to 11

people can be enabled to use it in total.

QUESTION ANSWER

Which customers can get 3G Home Zone? 3G Home Zone is available for Optus post-paid customers that are in Home Zone serviceable

areas.

Is it only for post-paid mobile customers? Currently we are offering Home Zone at no extra charge for Optus post-paid mobile customers.

While we are not actively selling to Optus prepaid customers, prepaid customers wanting a Home

Zone device can purchase it at upfront cost (if a store has them in stock).

Does 3G Home Zone work with the Optus 4G

Network?

3G Home Zone is not currently compatible with the Optus 4G network. We are currently looking to

find a indoor solution for 4G coverage.

Does 3G Home Zone work on 4G phones? 1. Customers with 4G handsets that live in 3G only coverage areas: will be able to connect to

the 3G Home Zone. Their device will automatically connect to the Home Zone signal.

2. Customers with 4G handsets that live in 4G or 4G & 3G coverage areas: If customers live

in a 4G covered area the handset will automatically select the 4G network over choosing the

Home Zone signal. Customers can elect to turn off 4G via their handset when at home to

ensure connectivity to their Home Zone device.

Do customers have to have a fixed internet

connection with Optus to get 3G Home Zone?

No, 3G Home Zone works with a fixed broadband connection with any ISP. This includes

broadband services with Optus, Telstra, iiNet, TPG etc.

Since it’s connected to the customer’s fixed

broadband, how much data does it use?

Home Zone uses approx. 1Gb of data per month on standby, plus a small amount for each call;

e.g. 5 x 10 minute calls per day = approx 0.5Gb/mth.

However, if a customer has Optus Fixed Broadband then Home Zone traffic is zero rated and does

not count towards their data allowance.

How many devices can be connected to Home

Zone at once?

Up to 4 devices can use it at any time. This depends on the speed of the broadband. The minimum

speed to carry 4 calls at once is 1Mbps download and 512Mbps upload.

Does this mean that only 4 mobile numbers can

be enabled to access the 3G Home Zone?

No, up to 11 Optus/ Virgin mobile numbers can be added to the access list and enabled to use the

Home Zone device.
