Dear Mr. Courtermarsh:

Thank you for your recent correspondence regarding the Iran-Contra matter. ! think you will agree with the President as he· said in his statement to the nation on August 12, " ••• just look at the damage that's been done and the time that ' .s been lost. But I've always found that the best therapy for outrage and anger is action."

The President has taken steps to change the system and personnel. New and tighter procedures on consulting with and notifying the .Congress on future covert actions have been adopted. ·

The most important course of action is to develop trust between the Executive and Legislative branches of government. We believe that there is now a growing concern that more can be accomplished through improved cooperation.
