What is an Item Class
• A logical classification and grouping of similar
Items.
• Acts as a template for product definition by
enabling association and inheritance of data
elements and policies shared by items.
• The Root Item Class is seeded and all item
classes are created as children of Root Item
Class.

Setting up an Item Class Recommended steps for setting up of item classes:
• Create a list of all items.
• Classify or categorize these items (Item
classes).
• Define any parent child relationships (Item
Class Hierarchy).
• Gather the unique types of specifications
required for each type of classification

Attributes and Attribute Groups
• Attributes are used to more specifically identify
items, their characteristics and specifications,
and capture business process information.
• Attributes are grouped together as Attribute
Groups.
• Seeded attributes and user defined attributes.
• Attributes get inherited in Item Class hierarchy.

Item Management at Item Class
• Set up at Item class for automatic generation of
Item numbers and descriptions when new items
are created; This ensures that new items
created in item classes have a consistent
numbering scheme.
Ex. Item Description
25HP-940RPM-3CylAirCompressor
• Versioning control allows new versions to be
created for all items of item class.
• An integrated workflow definition allows
creation of custom new item request definition
for new items created. This definition workflow
enables you to route the definition and approval
of an item using various steps. (Discussed in a
forth-coming session)

Other Data Elements Set up at Item Class
• Lifecycle Phases
• Phases through which an item will go
through in it’s lifecycle.
• Example: Design, Prototype,
Production etc.
• Item Templates:
• A defined set of attribute values used
during item creation. When you apply a
template to an item, you overlay or
default-in the set of attribute
• Attachment Categories
• Import Formats

User Defined Attributes
• Extensible Flexfields (EFF) and Descriptive
Flexfields (DFF).
• EFFs are defined at Item, Item Revision and Item
Supplier context.
• DFFs are defined on Structure, Catalog /
Categories, NIR / Change Order
• EFFs too are grouped together in groups.
• EFF groups can be associated to Item Classes.

EFF Attribute Group Definition
Oracle Confidential – Internal/Restricted/Highly Restricted 13
Translatable
Only for translatable text fields, no numbers
Behavior :
Single Row and Multi-Row (discussed in the following topic)
Variant
Only used to generate Variant items from style items
Context Usage Behaviour for Style to SKU and/or Master to Child Organization None; Defaulted; Inherited
Context Usage:
(must choose at least one: Item, Item Revision and Supplier )
Item context means Attributes at Item Level;
Similarly, you can add attributes in the contexts of Item Revision and Supplier association as well)

Multi Row Attribute Groups
Oracle Confidential – Internal/Restricted/Highly Restricted 14
• Allows you to associate multiple sets of attribute
values with the same object instance.
For Ex,
• Item: Book
• Attribute Group (Multi-row): Chapters
• Attributes: Chapter number; Name and Number of pages
• Multiple rows of Chapters can be associated with a book.
• Name and Number of pages each require a single row.
• Chapter number can be identified as Part of Unique Key

EFF (Attribute) Definition
Oracle Confidential – Internal/Restricted/Highly Restricted 15
After Creating Attribute Group, You can add Attributes
You must associate a Value Set
You can choose a Display type:
- Radio Button: To make a selection from a set of mutually exclusive options.
-Text box/area: For Entering plain text.
-LOV / Drop-down List: For picking one of the pre-defined Values to populate a field
-Check box: Can be used for specifying Yes/No value

What is a value set?
• Value Sets are predefined, named groups of values.
• In FPH, Value Sets are primarily used for defining
attributes where the values that an attribute can
have is limited to a specific set of values.
• For example, You can restrict the values for
an Attribute “Currency” to USD, CNY, JPY,
KRW.
• Different Validation types supported by Value Sets
are: Format Only, Independent, Dependent, Subset
and Table.
• Different Data types supported are: Character,
Number, Date, Date/Time.

Independent Value Sets
Oracle Confidential – Internal/Restricted/Highly Restricted 20
• Used to specify a custom set of independent
valid values.
For example, you can use an independent
value set of Countries like USA, France, and
so forth to validate the Currency used.
Name Country Currency
Description Sales Countries
Currencies mapped to countries
Validation Type Independent Dependent
Data Type Character Character
Subtype Text Text
Length 10 3
Parent Country
Value Value
USA USD
France EUR
China CNY
Copyright © 2014 Oracle and/or its affiliates. All rights reserved. | 21
Dependent Value Sets
Oracle Confidential – Internal/Restricted/Highly Restricted 21
• Used when the available values in the list
depend on which independent value was
selected for a prior custom attribute.
For example the valid currency depends on
which country was selected.
• A dependent value set is a collection of value
subsets, with one subset for each value in a
corresponding independent value set.
Independent Value Dependent Value
USA USD
France EUR
China CNY
The list of values filters itself based on the value supplied from the independent, driving attribute country.
This value is chosen by the “driving” attribute (country)

Format Only Value Sets
Oracle Confidential – Internal/Restricted/Highly Restricted 22
• Used when you want to allow end users to
enter any value so long as that value
conforms to formatting rules.
For example, if you specify a maximum length
of 4 and numeric-only, then end users can
enter 1234, but not 12345432109871 nor
ABCDEFGHIJKLMN.
• You can also specify the minimum and
maximum values.
Name Data type / Sub Type Length
15_Characters Character / Numeric digits only Max Length: 4
GTIN_14 Number Precision: 14
Name Min Max Precision/Scale
1_digit_integer_positive 0 Integer Only (1/0), e.g: 7
2_decimal_positive 0 2 decimals (null,2), e.g: 1.12
3_digit_integer_positive 1 Integer Only (3/0), e.g: 234
TV_Screen_Size_Inches 10 75 Integer Only (2/0), e.g: 64
