  • standard api changes What they are: They are Application Program Interfaces, which are standard stored procedure, package or functions created for performing specific activities in the Oracle EBS. These are designed to integrate between non-Oracle systems and Oracle EBS or to extend the functionality of the base products.

How theyre affected by an upgrade: Although they should have remained valid from release to release, and patches should have not altered the API behavior, Panaya found that EBS customers will find as many as 37 standard APIs have been removed after upgrading to R12 and as many as 16 APIs became obsolete.

FOrm persOnaliZatiOn What they are: With the Oracle EBS release 11.5.10, Oracle has introduced a mechanism which revolutionizes the way forms can be customized to fulfill customer needs. Oracle has provided a simple and easy feature to implement customer specific requirements without modifying the underlying forms code. The personalization feature provided in the latest release is easy, faster and requires minimum development effort.

How theyre affected by an upgrade: Due to the fact that form personalization is aimed to change standard form behavior, it is very sensitive to any changes made in the forms. If a form, form block or field were deleted or changed, the personalization can be impacted. Oracle customers will find as many as 8 form personalizations that need to be handled during an R12 upgrade.

standard FOrms changeWhat they are: Forms are used to view and edit data in database-driven applications. Oracle EBS uses thousands of forms to provide all the business logic in its different modules. These forms are the front end user interface to oracle EBS users, which are used on a daily basis for executing organizational business processes.

How theyre affected by an upgrade: As Oracle EBS forms are frequently used on a daily basis by users, they are very sensitive to any user interface changes. Such changes need to be handled first of all by the IT staff to understand the nature of these changes, test them and adapt them to the organizational business processes. From a training perspective, users need to be trained on the changes in the Forms to help them adapt to their new functionalities.

changed dB OBJects What they are: Oracle provides powerful customization technologies for the Oracle standard processes, to fit the organization needs. Most of these customizations query the relevant information from Oracles standard database objects such as tables, views and more.

How theyre affected by an upgrade: Due to the fact that in the R12 release Oracle implemented major changes in the core architecture (e.g. EBS Suite Tax Management and Sub Ledger Accounting), many tables, views and other objects were impacted. Oracle customers will find as many as 708 standard objects removed after upgrading to R12 and as many as 395 objects that became obsolete. Obsolete objects are especially hard to identify, because the objects exist in R12 but are no longer supported by Oracle and new data will not be documented any more in these objects.

standard cOncurrent change What they are: Concurrent Processing is a feature of Oracle EBS that lets you perform multiple tasks simultaneously. Oracle EBS Concurrent Processing lets you run long, data-dependent functions at the same time as your users perform online operations. Typically, a concurrent program is a long-running, data-intensive task, such as posting a journal or generating a report.

How theyre affected by an upgrade: Oracle customers will find as many as 87 standard Concurrents removed after upgrading to R12 and as many as 22 standard Concurrents that change or became obsolete. Typically, business critical processes are being handling by these Concurrents and must be handled by the organization during the upgrade.
