Explaining Your Journey

Dr. Smith: Tell me about yourself, Heather.Elizabeth: Sure. I grew up in Fresno, California. I went to school at the University of California, Davis. There I studied Design with emphasis in interior architecture. After I graduated in 2006 I worked a couple of jobs in design, but lost all my passion for it. Eventually I moved back to Fresno and worked as a clothing specialist and manager at Macy’s (a department store). While I was at Macy’s I contemplated my future steps. I took a few short trips out of the country to Mexico and South Africa (in 2009 and 2010). I decided I wanted to become a teacher. I went to back to school and got my teaching certificate from Fresno Pacific University. As I was finishing my schooling, I learned about some overseas teaching opportunities. I knew this was the perfect blend of my passion for travel and my passion for teaching.
