Pesticides: During the 1950s - 70s some pesticides wereinvented, the DDT (Dichloro-Diphenyl-Trichloroethane). Butthe pesticide has a great effect. It killed the insect efficiently, but the animals consuming the insects stored the DDT in thebody.

Raptors (not only the peregrine, but a massive range ofanimals) ate the animals gained massive amount of thepesticide, and the problem appeared.

The pesticide interfered with the reproduction of the bird, thinning the eggshells which reduce the number of eggs thatsurvived to hatching. In several parts of the world, such as theeastern USA and Belgium, this species became extinct as aresult.

2.- Hunting: The Peregrine Falcon have been shotby humans because they eat carrier birds. Carrierbirds are used in France to deliver messages and

because the Peregrine Falcon have been eatingthem messages couldn't go through.

Since the ban on DDT in the 1970's, peregrinefalcon populations have recovered significantly,

and are even showing signs of recovery in areas inwhich they haven't been spotted in some years, such as northern NJ.

In countries like the U.S., Canada, Germany andPoland, recovery teams make copies of this species incaptivity. The chicks are fed through a tube that mimicsthe adult head of a falcon, so they can not see to thebreeders and avoid his mark with humans.

When they become old enough, opens his cage, allowtraining their wings and when are sufficiently strong, the meal is reduced, to force the animal to learn to

    hunt for themselves.

To release a falcon, the bird is placed in a special cageat the top of a build for a few days to acclimate to theirfuture environment.
