Students from the School of Computer Studies (SCS) of MSU Iligan Institute of Technology

(MSU-IIT) flocked to the Institute Mini-Theatre last February 17, 2011 as a team from Orange&Bronze

Software Labs, Inc. conducted a technology seminar and recruitment activity that highlighted and

showcased the usefulness and power offered by Google technologies.

Orange&Bronze (O&B) is a premier software company in the country that aims to become

internationally recognized in the field of technology, software development and training. Being local

enterprise partners for multinational corporate giant Google Inc., Orange&Bronze culminated their

Mindanao-wide IT Roadshow at MSU-IIT with the seminar followed by a recruitment examination for

 junior and senior level SCS students.

Prior to MSU-IIT, O&B had already been to other schools in Mindanao like Ateneo de Davao,

Capitol University, Xavier University, and Mindanao University of Science and Technology. Key speakers

for the event were the companys top 2 head honchos, their CEO and CTO, which student ICT

enthusiasts dont normally get to see during seminars conducted by software companies. Talks ranged

from introduction to showcasing of the different Google Technologies to Agile Methodology and

Augmented Reality.

Butch Landingin, O&Bs Chief Technology Officer and part-owner of the company, demonstrated

the use of different powerhouse Google applications like Google Apps Engine, Google Maps, and

Android. Mr. Landingin also presented some of their companys software systems and other software

applications that were derived from Google technologies like www.haybol.ph, a real-estate search

software, and Layar, an augmented reality location search software. Landingin capped of his talk with a

demonstration of how to develop a simple open-source android application using Google Apps Engine,

Android Emulator, and Python programming language.

Thanks to people like Cong. Manny Pacquiao, Arnel Pineda and Charice we Filipinos have been

gaining international recognition by excelling in fields like sports and entertainment. But not really in the

field of technology, let alone in software development, commented Mr. Calen Martin D. Legaspi, Chief 

Executive Officer of Orange&Bronze Software Labs, Inc., during his talk about their company.

In the hopes of bringing not only recognition but also support from our government, Mr.Legaspi and O&B are keeping their fingers crossed that it is with through ICT roadshows and

technological seminars such as these that they are able to help students and software developers get

encouraged to pursue this fast-paced career in software development and information technology.
