ORDINANCE NO. 2001-245

AN ORDINANCE OF THE CITY OF NEWCASTLE, WASHINGTON, SETTING THE AD VALOREM PROPERTY TAX LEVY FOR 2001 FOR 2002 COLLECTION.

WHEREAS, RCW 35A.33.135 requires the City Manager to provide the City Council with current information on estimates of revenues and expenditures for the current year; and

WHEREAS, said statute requires the Council to consider the City's total anticipated financial requirements for the ensuing fiscal year and to determine and fix by ordinance the amount to be raised by ad valorem property taxes; and to cedi@ the same to the Clerk of the King County Council; and

WHEREAS, RCW 35A.33.070 requires the City Council to hold a public hearing on revenue sources for the coming year's budget including consideration of possible increases in property tax revenues by November 30; and

WHEREAS, the City wishes to set its regular ad valorem property tax levy rate at $2.48856; and

WHEREAS, the present. assessed valuation of the City is estimated to be $1,006,278,274; NOW, TJdEREFORE,

THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF NEWCASTLE, WASHINGTON, DO 0-AIN AS FOLLOWS:

Section 1. The 2001 property tax levy for collection in 2002 is $2,509,222, which is a revenue increase of 16.5%. The levy rate increase is 2.8%.

Section 2. The City Clerk is directed to transmit a certified copy of this ordinance to the Ofice of the Auditor of the State of Washington, Division of Municipal Corporations. The Clerk is further directed to transmit a certified copy of this ordinance to the Council Administrator-Clerk of the King County Council and to the King County Assessor on or before December 4,2001.

Section 3. This ordinance shall take eEect five days after its publication.
