Third Sunday Food Pantry Sunday

Food donations for the Community Pantry at St. Mary’s Episcopal Church, Mohegan Lake, will be collected next weekend. Your donations are greatly appreciated.

The Food Pantry Thanks You! The Community Food Pantry thanks you for all you do for them. From January 2016 to December 2016, 51,579 meals were provided and 5,731 families went through their doors. At Christmas, 166 families received a turkey or ham and all the fixings, 313 children received toys, including a group home for girls in Ossining and two pre-schools in low-income neigh-borhoods in our surrounding area. It is because of the faithful support of individuals like you, that the pantry is able to reach out and lend a hand to our friends and neighbors, and to bring some joy and hope into their lives.

Prayer Shawl Ministry Update We have given 35 prayer shawls to parishioners and others who would benefit from the comfort of one of our shawls. The feedback is humbling. In addition, we donated 10 prayer shawls and 60 hat/scarf sets to the Veterans’ Hos-pital in Montrose, along with 120 hat/scarf sets to the Christ-mas Midnight Run. We donated 10 prayer shawls to Sup-port Connection. When the Sisters of Life visited the Parish in January, we donated 8 baby blankets and 30 hat/scarf sets to them on your behalf. Father Madu has several tubs of shawls at his disposal as he visits homebound and hospital-ized parishioners. Look to the bulletin for our next meeting date. New members are welcome!

$7 Of all the pains that life can hand us, arguably one of the most searing is the death of a child. As Jesus joined his distraught dis-ciples on the road to Emmaus after his crucifixion, we ask him to join each of us in this ministry as we continue on our difficult journeys from grief to the healing peace that we, like Jesus’ disci-ples, can find in the Eucharistic community. To meet the spiritu-al needs of Catholic parents whose children of any age have died by any cause—no matter how long ago—the Family Life † Respect Life Office offers The Emmaus Ministry for Griev-ing Parents. A unique, faith-based program providing spiritual retreats for grieving parents offered by grieving parents, the Emmaus Ministry offers a safe place where you can find peace, comfort, and hope, at least for a time. Join us at one of the fol-lowing Emmaus Ministry Catholic retreats now being offered in the Archdiocese of New York. One-day retreats offered twice at St. Joseph’s Semi-nary: (201 Seminary Ave., Yonkers, NY) Saturday, Feb. 25, 2017 One-day retreat offered at the Church of the Magda-lene (525 Bedford Road, Pocantico Hills, Tarrytown, New York) Saturday, April 1, 2017 Cost: $25 pp, $40 per couple, Scholarships are available Register online: www.emfgp.org/archny or, contact Sue DiSisto, Coordinator, Parenting and Family Life Educa-tion at [email protected] or (646) 794-3191.

SETON SUNDAY MOVIES The Jeweller’s Shop

SUNDAY, FEBRUARY 19th AT 4PM In the Chapel

Burt Lancaster stars as the titular merchant in this classic adaptation of Pope John Paul II's best-selling play "The Jewel-ler’s Shop," an inspiring drama about three married couples and their ups and downs in holy matrimony. With a faithful jeweler acting as their spiritual adviser, three sets of hus-bands and wives struggle to live their lives with love, steering clear of avarice and infidelity. Olivia Hussey and Ben Cross also star. The film is 1h35m. Father Quarato will offer com-ments and answer questions.

Cold/Flu Season–Some Precautions! In order to ensure the health of all, some precautions are advisable. If you are sick or showing symptoms of a cold/flu please remain at home for your own wellbeing and for the wellbeing of others in our parish family. There is no obliga-tion to attend Mass if you are ill. Extraordinary Ministers of Holy Communion are to use the available hand sanitizer be-fore entering the sanctuary to assist in the distribution of Holy Communion. As a general rule, close contact with oth-ers is best avoided. At the sign of peace, consider a kind word, or a bow, nod or a wave instead of shaking hands. Hand shaking is not required. Avoiding close contact with others will go a long way in helping prevent the spread of the common cold/flu. Thank you for your cooperation!

A Note about Becoming Sponsors For Baptism and Confirmation

It is a great honor to be asked to be a sponsor for Baptism or Confirmation. The role of a “godparent” is to be an “other parent” in matters of our holy Faith. That is why sponsors must be practicing Catholics, 16 years of age or older (14 years old in the Archdiocese of New York), having received Catholic Confirmation and currently living a good Christian moral life. If the sponsor is married, that person must be in a valid Catholic Church marriage. One sponsor is required for Confirmation. It is customary to have two for Baptism, in which case one must be male and the other female. Parents may not be sponsors. A baptized non-Catholic may replace the second Baptism sponsor as a Christian witness. Non-Christians may not be Sponsors. Former Catholics may not be sponsors. A nominated sponsor is asked to get certification from his/her current parish. This is a declaration by a priest/deacon that the individual is qualified to be a sponsor according to Church Law. To be so certified, the individual must be a current parishioner of the particular parish where the certification is being sought, and be known to the priest/deacon as being a faithful practicing Cath-olic, attending Mass there weekly. Those away at college or graduate school or in the military should seek certification from their campus ministries or chaplains. Unfortunately, at times, family members or friends are cho-sen to be sponsors with good intentions, but are found to be ineligible according to Church Law. Also, more and more, people seem to think that they are still “parishioners” of their childhood parish, where they attended school or re-ceived sacraments years ago, while no longer living in the area or attending Mass there regularly. It is important for all individuals to be active members of their local Catholic faith communities. Here, at Seton, Certificates of Sponsorship are given by the pastor to registered members of the parish who are practicing Catholics, and who meet the above criteria. Please see the pastor after Mass on Saturday evening or Sunday to inquire about getting a certificate.

First & Third Sundays CHILDREN’S LITURGY OF THE WORD

Next Sunday, Feb. 19th, following the Opening Prayer at the 9:30AM Family Mass, we will invite youngsters, ages 4 to 7, to come to Our Lady Memorial Chapel for a Children’s Liturgy of the Word. Parents of little ones may accompany them.

Sacred Relics at St. Columbanus On Monday, February 20th at 7:00PM, join St. Columba-nus Parish, Cortlandt Manor, for a presentation and exposi-tion of the sacred relics. They are hoping it will bring many healing graces to our community. You are invited to vener-ate over 150 relics of saints, some as old as 2000 years. In addition, a portion of the veil of Our Lady will be present, as well as one of the largest remaining pieces of the True Cross in the world. In the Church’s history, many miracles and healings have been worked in the presence of relics. You are encouraged to bring your articles of devotion (such as rosaries, holy, cards, etc.), and pictures of ill friends/family members, which you will be able to touch to the reliquaries as a means of intercession.
