Calendar Feasts, etc., are given here as they appear in the Ordinariate’s proper Calendar. Where there are two or more optional memorials on the same day, local, geographical, and pastoral considerations will dictate which Mass is celebrated.
Readings Readings in bold are the readings from the One-Year Lectionary of the Divine Office. It is permissible, for pastoral reasons, to use this long reading at either or both Morning and Evening Prayer on any one day.
Longer readings not in bold are either readings from Years I or II (where they diverge from the One-Year Lectionary of the Divine Office) or supplementary readings, usually drawn from elsewhere in the Divine Office, to complete the pattern of Old Testament and New Testament readings at Morning and Evening Prayer. At Morning or Evening Prayer, the reading in bold, even when it is from the New Testament, may always be used as the first reading when the custom is to read the post-biblical reading in the Divine Office or the Customary as the second reading.
Where there is a choice of readings, a decision may be made on the basis of appropriate length (it may not be necessary at any one office to have two long readings). Similarly, where a book is read in course, a decision may be made on the basis of continuity. On Sundays and solemnities, a Gospel reading is offered as an alternative second reading at Evening Prayer I.
The Customary Where material is provided in the Customary, a page reference is given (in the form See p. X). Further information is in the appendix to this Ordo.
Mass Rubrics Where rubrical directions are indicated, these usually apply to the Ordinary Form of the Roman Rite. Proper inserts to the Eucharistic Prayer apply both to the Ordinary Form and the Ordinariate Use. Reference should be made to the rubrics of the Ordinariate Use.
Abbreviations G – Green; W – White; P – Purple/Violet; R – Red; B – Black; * - Rose. EP – Evening Prayer (I or II); MP – Morning Prayer. LH – Liturgy of the Hours

a) Mass Propers
1) Our Lady of Walsingham
Introit Salve, sancta parens Hail, Holy Mother, who gave birth to the King: who rules heaven and earth for ever. Collect Grant, we pray, almighty God, that as in the mystery of the Incarnation the Blessed and ever Virgin Mary conceived your Son in her heart before she conceived him in the womb, so we, your pilgrim people, rejoicing in her motherly care, may welcome him into our hearts and become a holy house fit for his eternal dwelling. Who lives and reigns with you in the unity of the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever. First Reading Sirach 24:1, 2-4, 8-12, 19-22 Responsorial Psalm Magnificat R/. Blessed is the Virgin Mary, who bore the son of the eternal Father. Second Reading Gal 4:4-7 Alleluia Alleluia. Alleluia. Blessed is the Virgin Mary, who treasured the word of God, and pondered it in her heart. Alleluia. Gospel John 19:25-27

Offertory Beata es Blessed are you, Virgin Mary, for you have borne the Creator of all: you have birth to the one who created you, and you remain for ever a Virgin. Prayer over the Offerings Receive, O Lord, we ask, the prayers of your people with the sacrificial offerings, that, through the intercession of Blessed Mary, the Mother of your Son, no petition may go unanswered, no request be made in vain. Through Christ our Lord. Preface of the BVM I-II Communion Beata viscera Blessed is the womb of the Virgin Mary: which bore the Son of the eternal Father. Post-communion Prayer As we receive this heavenly Sacrament, we beseech, O Lord, your mercy, that we, who rejoice in commemorating the Blessed Virgin Mary, may by imitating her serve worthily the mystery of our redemption. Through Christ our Lord.

2) Blessed John Henry Newman
Introit The Spirit of the Lord is upon me, for he has anointed me and sent me to preach the good news to the poor, to heal the broken-hearted. [First] Reading Jer 1:4-9 Psalm 96 R/. Proclaim the wonders of the Lord among all the peoples. [Second Reading] 2 Tim 4:1-5 Alleluia V/. I am the vine, you are the branches, says the Lord: whoever remains in me, with me in him, bears fruit in plenty. Gospel John 15:9-17 Prayer over the Offerings We humbly implore your majesty, almighty God, that just as the offerings made in honour of blessed John Henry Newman bear witness to the glory of divine power, so may they impart to us the effects of your salvation. Through Christ our Lord. Preface of Holy Pastors Communion Behold, I am with you always, even to the end of the age, says the Lord (Mt 28:20) Post-communion Prayer May the mysteries we have received, O Lord, prepare us, we pray, for the eternal joys that, as a faithful steward, blessed John Henry came to deserve. Through Christ our Lord.

b) Psalms i) The omission of Psalms
The following psalms may be omitted from the Psalter in Course for these reasons:
4 Used daily at Compline.
14 Similar to Ps 53
24 When used as the Invitatory, it is not repeated that day.
58 A ‘cursing psalm’
67 When used as the Invitatory, it is not repeated that day.
91 Used daily at Compline.
95 When used as the Invitatory, it is not repeated that day.
100 When used as the Invitatory, it is not repeated that day.
134 Used daily at Compline.
Other psalms in brackets may be omitted where they occur.
ii) Modification of the Psalmody
In Catholic as in Jewish worship, the Tetragrammaton is never to be said aloud (see Liturgiam authenticam 41 c). Three modifications are needed therefore to the Coverdale Psalter, and are given in the Customary: in Pss 35:12 and 68:4, the abbreviated form of the Tetragrammaton should simply be omitted; in Ps 83:18, the normal English biblical convention of substituting ‘the LORD’ for the Divine Name should be followed.
c) Readings
Versions of Scripture to be used:
For the reading of lessons, the Revised Standard Version should be used in either the first Catholic Edition or the second Catholic Edition (RSV-2CE). Though the Jerusalem Bible is the basis of the Lectionary in most Catholic churches in England and Wales, that version of the Bible itself (and similarly the New Jerusalem Bible) is not suitable for reading aloud in public because of the frequent occurrence of the Tetragrammaton.
