According to Evans Valley Fire District No. 6, the bum pile was large (approximately 30 cubic yards) and included caet, a car muffler, a crock pot, various metal parts, styroam, rniture, plastic, metal food cans and other wet garbage and household trash, materials that normally emit dense smoke and noxious odors when burned. DEQ issued this penalty because open buing these materials is prohibited at all times statewide. Burning these materials poses a threat to the environment and public health, especially r the young, elderly, and those with respiratory conditions. Toxic chemical exposure can result om such buing, and each illegal bu contributes to the cumulative amount of pollution in the atmosphere. If you wish to appeal this matter, DEQ must receive a request r a contested case hearing within 20 calendar days om your receipt of this letter. The hearing request must be in writing. This letter is to inform you that DEQ has issued you a civil penalty of $3,944 for illegal open burning on May 29, 2017, at 425 Pleasant Creek Road, Rogue River, Oregon.
