Organics Brazil is the brand name of a sectorial program developed by a public private partnership leaded by IPD (Development Promotion Institute) and Apex-Brasil (Brazilian Trade and Investment Promotion Agency) that is supporting and marketing organic producers and local enterprises that bring to the market products from all regions and biomes of Brazil: Amazon, Caatinga, Cerrado, Atlantic Forest, Pantanal and Pampa. In these regions, Brazilian entrepreneurship are making a wide range of products: from the raw materials for the food and cosmetic industry to package and branded products in more than fifty categories of Food, Cosmetic, Beverage, Ingredients and Textile: all of them organics and sustainable certified with the highest international standards.
Being organic, environmental sustainable and with good patterns of quality are pre conditions for the producers in this program, but what really matters from a trade perspective is also that the products you can find here are made with the biomes characteristic. It means that the world can be provided not only with good organic sustainable products, but with the most varied types of soils, climates, altitudes, ethnic and cultural diversity from Brazil. Many of them are unique Brazilian Products with ingredients from these biomes and all of them are profoundly marked by the exuberant nature of Brazil.
As one of the world’s greatest food providers and, with a great and diversified economy, Brazilian producers are capable of extract, cultivate and transform many kinds of products for the most rigorous quality and international patterns. With the Organics Brazil program for more than seven years, these producers are being promoted in the greatest organics fairs, providing to all types of industries and markets, dazzling the organic world with the most astonishing and vibrant production of this country, land of estimated 20% of the global biodiversity.
If you are still not well familiar with our producers, you can learn more about them in this brochure and at our stands in the major international trade shows. And if you are our regular trade partner, it is time to improve our trade efforts, making good deals, supported by the Brazilian Government.
The Cerrado is made especially of the not very high savanna trees among formations of open grassland. Regional species of great potential, both for the extraction and industrial processing: pequi, baru, mangaba, cagaita, buriti, jatoba, cajui, arnica, mama-cadela, faveira, gueroba, murici, palm trees, among others.
In the coconut forests fields are important carnauba, babassu and buriti. The golden grass is used to craft beautiful pieces influenced by native Indians and also by the first black people in the region.
The Atlantic Forest is a diverse set of forest ecosystems with very different structures and compositions, but having as a common element the influence of humid winds that blow from the ocean.
Support for the commercial exploitation of the Araucaria angustifolia pinion (Parana pine) and yerba mate are examples of activities that are helping to recover that which is the most populated and therefore the most threatened of Brazilian biomes
The Pantanal is a floodplain influenced by flooded rivers that drain the basin of the Upper Paraguay, where there are a flora and fauna of great beauty and abundance.
The Pantanal is developing the production of medicinal plants and various types of honey, with excellent physical-chemical and sensory characteristics.
Organic cattle raising is being supported by a project between WWF-Brasil and local farmers. It is a good example of a harmonic integration of the economic activity with the Pantanal environment and culture.
The Pampa biome is closely related to extensive cattle ranching and there is a ever more growing organic production of meat, milk and dairy products.
The German and Italian colonization in this biome have a great potential for the production of specialty food in the artisanal system.
The Biomes
Biomes are collections of ecosystems that work in a stable manner, characterized by a main type of vegetation and where other forms of life adapted to those conditions are natural.
The Amazon is made up of distinct ecosystems that include dense terra firme (dense terrestrial) forests, seasonal forests, igapó (inundated) forests, flooded fields, meadows, grasslands, mountain refuges and pioneer formations.
It is considered the most biologically diverse in the world, hosting more than half of all living species. Guarana, cupuacu, acai, Brazil nut, annatto, andiroba are just some products that the vast reserve of life that is the Amazon provides its family farmers and gatherers. The Amazon, like other Brazilian biomes, still has a valuable potential for sustainable production. Just to mention one example, linalool, the disputed raw material of the famous French perfume Chanel Nº 5 comes from an Amazonian tree, the rosewood (Aniba rosaeodora Ducke).
Fruits such as the buriti (moriche palm), pupunha (peach-palm), physalis, the apricot, tucuman, marimari have the highest amount of carotenoids (which prevent illnesses such as night blindness, cataracts and even certain types of cancer), far surpassing the concentrations found in other fruits
The Caatinga consists mainly by savanna steppe formed of species resistant to harsh weather and unevenly distributed rainfall. It is an exclusively Brazilian biome.
The Caatinga is rich in fruit trees (S. tuberosa, passion fruit from the woods, araticum, goiabinha, Croatia), medicinal and aromatic (joazeiro), as well as plant fibers such as babassu and bacurizeiro.
The biome is also more favorable to the creation of species of native stingless bees that, besides producing one of the tastiest and valued types of honey in the world, are critical in the pollination of native plants.
