14 :: publisher’s note
I wonder why it is that as I get
older the time seems to fly by
more quickly! Here we are
fast approaching the end of an-
other year and it was just a few
months ago that we began work
on our new project. ‘StyleTV’ is
now being beamed into 25,000
hotel rooms; segments can also be accessed
online at: StyleToMe.TV
In keeping with our pledge to continue
bringing quality reporting to all our maga-
zine readers, we also felt a need to raise the
bar servicing our much appreciated tourist
sector as well. We are certain that our visi-
tors will appreciate our efforts in offering
them more direct and up-to-date informa-
tion about the happenings in town and we
look forward to receiving your feedback.
Our gratitude goes out to the many con-
tributors who made ‘StyleTV’ a reality, with
special thanks to Shaun Trout, Jason Mathis,
Jonathan Braucher, Patrick Treacy, hosts
Aerica D’Amaro and Peter Murphy.
In this issue of Orlando Style, we present
many wonderful options for your luxury
holiday shopping, with a focus on bringing
our local economy back on track, so we
ask that you support our great shops and
malls with your everyday and holiday gift
purchases. Spending your ‘gifting’ dollars at
our local, friendly and familiar retailers is as
much a gift to them as to those on your list,
adding extra meaning to the act of giving.
Our continued appreciation for the loyalty
displayed by our many readers, contributors
and advertisers in helping Orlando Style be-
come the most influential magazine in the
city. We intend to maintain our high level of
excellence.
Have a most wonderful Thanksgiving.
Sincerely,
Sven J. Bode

Variety isn’t just the spice of life—it’s the spice of nightlife. And there’s enough here at Downtown Disney to keep the party going late. Catch a mind-blowing Cirque du Soleil® show. Groove to live music from salsa torock ’n’ roll with an Irish twist. Dropin on a classy but casual cigar bar. And enjoy incredible food and much, much more. All in one night. All in one place. Then come back in the daytime to see us in a whole new light!

If he nourishes an atavistic passion for Greece, the ground of his ancestors, it’s in Paris that he has found his home port. As a photographer, he continues his dream of perfection because, according to him, “the photograph is a kind of plastic surgery which is able to modulate a face ad infinitum!” His vision of beauty is fragile, transitory, a little kitsch and inevitably fatal.

> It’s that time of year when summer starts to fade away, the temperature slowly starts cooling down, and the fashion of the season makes its way into every store. The anticipation of what the designers have cho-sen for us this season is the most enticing part about doing a little revamping to your wardrobe. There is no doubt that for the past five years the Mall at Millenia has put on a world-class week of presenting all the luxuries of fashion held in its beautiful Grand Court. Presenting yet another exceptional eight full days of fashion shows, make-up dis-plays, in-store promotions and Champagne receptions engaged we “fashionistas,” in the most exquisite ensembles to keep us looking trendy. From edgy Ed Hardy to chic Chanel there is no doubt that this year was by far the best we’ve seen yet.
Kicking off the week was the Fashion For-ward Fashion Show hosted by E! News An-chor, Giuliana Rancic. The stunning fall fash-ion trends were displayed and beautifully put together by Orlando stylist, Melanie Pace. Coming down the runway were this season’s most cutting edge fashions from Ed Hardy, Bebe, Betsey Johnson, True Religion, BCBG Maxazria, Maxstudio, and Anthropologie. As if the excitement from the fashion show wasn’t satisfying enough, the complimentary refresh-ments, in-store promotions, and Champagne reception soon to follow were a perfect ending to the day and a perfect start to the week ahead. The fashionable attendees of the Champagne reception enjoyed drinks, hors d’oeuvres, and mingling with Giuliana as she made her way around the event acknowledg-ing every guest.
Day two of Fashion Week continued on with the Runway to Hope Champagne Brunch and Fashion Event to benefit Arnold Palmer Hospital for Children Pediatric Clinical Tri-
als and Research for Neuroblastoma hosted again by Giuliana Rancic along with event chairs Mark and Josie NeJame. Included in this delicate event were a delicious brunch, luxury fashion show, and in-store activities all to benefit the organization. The fashion show included top designers such as Gucci, Jimmy Choo, Neiman Marcus, Salvatore Ferragamo, St. John and Tory Burch, which resulted in a truly glamorous event for a good cause. It wasn’t long before the attendees made their way out of the Grand Court and up to the second level to indulge in some shopping with Giuliana as she did a little shopping her-self.
Continuing on, the week of emerging fashions was a runway extravaganza held by nine tal-ented design students from the International Academy of Design and Technology. Hosted by Jayde of Johnny & Jade Morning Show - XL 106.7, the up and coming designers were chosen out of 400 students to present the most unique items from their collection re-sulting in a remarkably impressive show.
The term “going out with a bang” is the best way to describe the closing to Fashion Week. MAC Cosmetics Venemous Villains Event was a memorable grand finale as the Grand Court décor was decorated with movie set props, a live DJ, and complimentary make-overs. With a lot of help from Mall at Millenia, there is no question as to what your ward-robe should include this season. The Mall at Millenia’s outstanding staff made this fashion week fun, exciting and memorable, leaving us longing for the next one! <

> You’ve seen her at the Oscars, the Grammy Awards, the Golden Globes, and co-hosting E! News alongside Ryan Seacrest, giving us the latest fashion tips, and all the Hollywood scoop. The fabulous Giuliana Rancic was right here in the beautiful Mall at Millenia hosting the mall’s 2010 Fall Fash-ion Week. Aside from her crazy schedule, she took the opportunity to see the true beauty of Orlando and everything that our extraordinary city has to offer.
This is your first time at The Mall at Millenia, how do you like it? I’m really excited to be here at the mall. I love shopping and this mall is unbelievable, it’s off the charts. The stores are amazing. We don’t have a mall this good in Los Ange-les, which is crazy to me! What are you favorite trends this season? I just got the sickest boots at ALDO. They are military looking but with a high heel and a zipper up the front. They’re very Alexan-der Mcqueen-ish. I love a harder edgier look, like a little black leather jacket with a longer tank top, tight jeans or leggings, and some heavy looking heels. Who is your favorite designer? If I had to pick one designer it would be Val-entino. Valentino is the epitome of feminin-ity and beauty. I wear a lot of Bebe, BCBG, Maxazria, Forever 21 and H & M. It’s impor-tant to me to be attainable. Not everyone can afford Gucci, Prada, and Louis Vuitton. My advice is to go into those stores and see the trends they’re doing. Then go to Forever 21 and other stores to get an idea because everyone is replicating.
So how does it feel to be in Orlando and NOT go to Disney World? I actually haven’t been to Disney since I was a little girl and the last time I was in Or-lando was when I was 10. I have a nightgown
that has Mickey and Minnie on it that I still wear. It’s actually in the new season of our show! When does the season start? October 11th. When we started the show, Giuliana and Bill, we thought it was going to be about our long distance marriage. We were going to get pregnant, move into a house, and have a kid. That didn’t happen. We’ve been trying to get pregnant for a long time and I never thought I would have a problem. To be told at 35 that I have “ma-ture eggs,” I thought, “What are you talking about?” I really want to talk about it in the show to other women who can learn from my experiences. And you have a book coming out? We have a book coming out called, “I Do, Now What?” There is a lot involved in the first couple of years of marriage so Bill and I sat down and wrote a book all about it hoping to give couples advice to use. So how has your Orlando adult experience been? Downtown is super cool. There are so many places to go and I can’t narrow them down! I know there’s a really great lounge a lot of people go to, I heard about some great restaurants, the shopping is amazing, and the nightlife is great. I don’t even think about going to the theme parks anymore, I just want to go to the city and have fun! <

> This beachside destination located on the eastern end of Route 30A with its quaint town center features all the laid-back amenities sought after by those wishing to relax. Traditionally designed around 1995 by Andres Duany (of Naples Fifth Avenue fame) and Elizabeth Plater-Zyberk, the town captures the serene and uncluttered am-biance of the 50’s, encouraging pedestrian movement in a carefully arranged and har-monious architectural plan. Spanning 107 acres, this point in paradise lies on the Gulf Coast between Panama City and Destin and contains an eclectic mixture of public spaces and private residences, with neigh-borhoods interconnected by walkways, se-cret footpaths and boardwalks, all within a 5 minute walk to beaches, restaurants, swim-ming pools and the town square.
During our visit, Ken Gifford, Vice President/Managing Director of Rosemary Beach, took some time off from his busy schedule to give us a tour of the property grounds. We felt the energy as he spoke of the sur-rounding beauty of the “world’s most pris-tine beaches” and the friendly, knowledge-able staff is glad to serve and make certain you have all the comforts of home. Basically a walking community, Rosemary Beach pro-vides auto-parking accommodations for the entire duration of your stay, allowing for movement either by foot or cycling, thereby eliminating navigation battles & traffic woes. This laid back atmosphere allows visitors to relax and enjoy the peacefulness of the town.
A variety of housing options are also avail-able, running the gamut from one-of-a-kind cottages, carriage houses, loft and flat rent-als to family-friendly and ultra-luxurious ac-commodations that include full kitchens to allow for meals being ‘prepared at home’, or guests may choose to savor the culinary fare of four in-town restaurants, a deli/mar-ket, ice cream parlor, coffee shop or wine bar. Maximizing the value of your vacation is also easy, since fitness center passes, court time at the Rosemary Beach Racquet Club and free DVD movies are included with ev-ery accommodation rental. Additional com-plimentary town amenities include access to four swimming pools, a children playground, numerous parks and green spaces and of course, the beach!
Here are a few details that will help to guide you in your exploration of Rosemary Beach:
Amavida Coffee, Rosemary’s answer to Starbucks, is family owned and openly de-clares its motto “Love for Life”. WiFi com-patible, the shop is located on the ground level in the Lofts West in North Barrow Square, brewing delicious, locally roasted 100% natural Fair Trade Certified coffee, served with an assortment of teas, pastries and desserts.

> Whether you’re into fast cars, exotics, imports, mus-cle cars or the classics, celebrities don’t waste any time when it comes to purchasing a new extravagant car. Keep-ing up with the most desired cars on the market, price tags no longer matter. If they’re looking for top of the line luxury or for pure speed, stars don’t “blink an eye” to drop 6 figures on a car in order to keep cruising in style.
Stand up comedian and talk show host, Jay Leno, is an au-tomobile fanatic. In Southern California you can find his 17,000 square-foot car garage stocked with more than 100 cars and 50 motorcycles. There is no doubt about his passion for cars. The collection displays over 100 years of automobile history. His garage is set for mechanical needs as well, fully stocked with parts and all of the required technology needed to do work in the garage. Leno keeps a team of mechanical wizards who are adept at fixing, re-storing, and customizing just about every type of vehicle imaginable. The $450,000 Mercedes SLR McLaren is one of his favorites. The McLaren is famous for its rich F1 racing history. It can reach over 200 mph, has a V8 motor and more than 600 horsepower. ‘’It is the fastest car, I have ever driven,’’ says Leno.
Reggie Bush isn’t just a football player for the Saints; he is an owner of a Ferrari F430. He personally designed the color scheme for his ride and chose an outer color of grey with red interior. Endless options are available for making this car unique such as keyless entry, auto-dimming mirrors, automatic dual-zone climate control and MP3-ca-pable audio. The interior also reflects the advanced tech-nology and materials employed in the car’s construction. Purchasers of this car have the personalized option of car-bon fiber or aluminum inserts. Bush’s ride is also decked out in 20-inch and 22-inch iForged wheels with chrome rims. This sleek car has an MSRP value of $186,925 with a V8 petrol engine and a 490-horse power. If you are looking for speed, this Ferrari has got it, going from 0-62 mph in a mere 4 seconds.
Paris Hilton decided to buy herself a Bentley Continen-tal GT, in 2008. She had it custom made at West Coast Customs car restyling center, to fit her personality, pink and decked out in diamonds. This past year, she decided to add an edition to the car, a $285,000 diamond-encrusted

dashboard. Standing out from the sporty designs of Bent-ley’s past models, the Continental GT’s style marks it as one of a kind with its contemporary profile and advanced technology. Pricing in the $200,000 range, this car can go over 200 mph and goes from 0-60 in 4.6 seconds.
British music mogul, Simon Cowell, most commonly known for being a judge on American Idol, has new bragging rights with his Bugatti Veyron. A dream car for many, its high-powered performance and sophisticated racy design has a narrow angle W16 engine with 1000 horsepower. This compliments the fact that it has a 16-cylinder four-wheel drive and can go from 0-100 mph in 2.5 seconds. With a top speed of 267 mph, Cowell spent over 1 million dollars to become a proud owner of the fastest car in the world.
Actor, Jerry Seinfeld, an automobile enthusiast and avid collector, is rumored to own one of the largest Porsche collections in the world. Jerry Seinfeld’s private Manhattan garage is easily Gotham’s swankiest car park. The collec-tion’s centerpiece is a $700,000 Porsche 959. Included in Jerry’s collection is a 1959 straight-16 GT speedster; a Porsche 911S; a 1955 Spyder 550 – the same model and pearl-grey color actor James Dean was driving when he crashed and died in September 1955 near Cholame, Calif.
David Beckham’s Custom Rolls-Royce Phantom Drop-head has an MSRP of $407,000. This does not include all of the customized accessories and new set of Savini Forged wheels he added after purchasing. Beckham’s Drophead has color-matched exterior trim and his soccer number ‘’23’’ embroidered on the seats. Both the car and rims are coated in black, which easily allows this elegant car to stand out on any street. Each Drophead Coupe is hand built to order and is a full four-seat, two-door convertible. This car also offers aluminum V12 engine that provides effortless power.
Now that is something to turn your head about! <

>The season of overindulgence and eating in abundance is just around the corner – are you prepared to keep off that possible weight gain? A study from the National Institute of Health says, Americans, on average, gain a pound and a half during the winter holidays and never lose it afterwards. It may not seem much, however, year after year it does pack on a mean ‘pouch’!
With Thanksgiving in particular, being the number one day of overeating for many people in America, it is important to know how easy taking in over 2,000 to 5,000 calories in just one sitting can be without knowing it. Such intake can
develop into weight gain issues, which may in-crease your odds of contracting diabetes, high blood pressure, high cholesterol and heart dis-ease.
No need to cancel your holiday plans in order to stay on your diet, just follow these tips that will keep you looking good and staying healthy after the many gatherings and feasts you have ahead of you.
Prior to heading out to your friend or family members home, try eating a small snack that will keep you satisfied until dinner, such as a hearty salad with a light dressing or a soup full of vegetables. This will keep you from straying and eating unwanted calories from unhealthy snacks and appetizers that are passed around in abundance.
Ask yourself; Are you even hungry? Just because you see what it seems to be an endless table full of food does not mean you should place a pound of each item on your plate, a little taste will go a long way. Experts agree that the first 2 to 3 bites will be the most satisfying. After that, it’s all ‘bulk’.
Foods that are high in fat can be found in creamy
and fried dishes and those are the ones you need to watch out for the most. Cheese-filled casse-roles, cranberry sauce, dinner rolls and mashed potatoes and gravy are amongst the top Thanks-giving most fattening foods.
Although you cannot always control what ingre-dients are put into certain foods, moderation is the key. By eating slowly and controlling the portion size, you will be able to enjoy much of the food that is around you. Cut your portions into halves or even thirds and try to fill your plate with a majority of it being vegetables.
Green beans, one of the healthiest holiday foods, is a must have on your Thanksgiving plate, con-taining vitamin C, vitamin K, potassium and iron. Other healthy choices include, pumpkin, which is rich in vitamin A and provides a good amount of fiber. Sweet potatoes are high in antioxidants, such as vitamin C and are also a great source of potassium. These foods are great for relieving stress & anxiety, which we know accompanies the holiday season!
Want to cut the ‘fat’? Go skinless on your turkey this year; it will get rid of most of the undesired fat and cholesterol. Also, alcohol and coffee can dehydrate your body, so cut back on your drink of choice and stay hydrated by having a glass of water for every alcoholic and caffeinated drink you have.
And, if you must have eggnog, sip it from a small white wine glass filled a third of the way—why? Because it is a calorie bomb!
Take advantage of the amazing weather we have this time of year. Go for a brisk walk outside for a quick pick me up. A 15 - 20 minute work-out daily will do wonders for your body, mind and spirit. Prevent the gift of unwanted holiday weight gain and take precautions this holiday season. With these simple steps, you can stay in check with your healthy and fit lifestyle and have your cake too! <

I am getting married in four months and heard about the “gummy bear” implants. What are they?
A: The CPG or “contour profile gel implant” is a Mentor Corporation implant that is currently in clinical tri-als here in the United States. It is an implant that is widely used throughout the world and is now under investiga-tion for FDA approval. The CPG implant features a teardrop shape that can pro-vide patients with more natural looking breasts. They are often preferred by women who are looking for a gently sloping breast silhouette. The Cohesive Gel Implant is designed in such a way that it mimics this shape.
How would I know if I am a good candidate for the CPG implant?
A: The CPG implant is most use-ful in those patients who have very thin skin and want very natural looking breasts, not too overdone and are afraid of the issues of rippling that exist with the standard implants. Rippling is least evident in CPG implants and therefore the development of folds is very minimal to none. It is the folding of the implants that cause implants to ultimately fail.
Are CPG implants readily avail-able here in the United States?
Only select surgeons participating in this study have access to the CPG im-plants and can determine their eligibility. Surgical expertise and a commitment to careful patient follow-up were the criteria in choosing the select surgeons. There are approximately sixty surgeons throughout the United States that have been selected to participate in this clini-cal trial and who have access to the CPG implants, in Florida there are two sur-geons who have the special privileges of CPG implant use. I have had the privilege of being one of the surgeons in Florida since the study began.

> Fashionista and pop icon Robyn Rihanna Fenty, commonly known as Rihanna, is in-troducing her newest album, ‘‘Loud,’’ which is scheduled to release November 16. Not even a full year after the release of her al-bum, ‘’Rated R,’’ Rihanna has done it again, dropping her fifth studio effort in her career thus far.
‘’Loud,’’ with an up beat dance feel has been inspired by Michael Jackson’s ‘’Thriller’’ al-
bum and expects to have many surprise collaborations on the disc including singers Drake and Shontelle.
“I made sure not to let you down with my music! You guys are always defending me, so now you’ve got some great songs to justify it,’’ Rihanna said on her website www.rihan-nadaily.com on behalf of ‘’Loud.’’
The twenty-two year old Barbados native has experienced much success since her move to the United States, when she was 16 years old. Rapper Jay Z, previous presi-dent of Def Jam Records discovered her talents and signed her to the label after re-cord producer Evan Rogers took her under his wing.
Rihanna has made many bold fashion state-ments on red carpet events whether it be her newly dyed fire red hair or the unique and catchy trends she sets on a day-to-day basis which continually keeps her in the spot light. She has received a plethora of awards from of all over the world including several Grammys and American Music Awards.
Five albums and 35 songs have been placed on the Music Charts. Newest single ‘’Only Girl (In the World)’’ produced by Stargaze has already claimed the number one song downloaded on Itunes for the US, Australia and France. This year her recent collabora-

I wanted to share with you an e-mail I recently received from a patient who had gynecomas-tia surgery, a procedure to re-duce enlarged breasts in men. It made my day, and I think it shows the real power of cos-metic surgery to enhance lives. Here it is:
“There are so many awesome new things going on in my life (which is thanks to you actually).
“The huge boost in confidence I have post-op has made me re-evaluate every aspect of my life and start making SO many huge positive changes. Feeling 100% comfortable in your own skin makes you realize that the sky is the limit and that there is nothing you can’t accomplish, so I’m just so excited to see where the next year takes me!
“I never had the confidence in my adult life to be a go-getter, I was always ashamed and introverted, so I always just settled, but I truly feel like a whole new me, and I’m excited with what I’m becoming, which is happier, more confident and overall 1000% more successful. I truly think that THIS is exactly what plastic surgery should be about, helping people become “the best me I can be” so that they can live more happy and en-riching lives by being comfortable with who they are.
“I recently had a photo emailed to me from a summer fam-ily gathering at the beach. This is the first time in almost a decade I have spent the annual family picnic shirtless and the first time most can remember me bringing a date to ANY family beach activity.
“Thanks again for giving me a whole new lease on life!”

THE NEW CLS POINTS THE WAY

> Celebrating its world premiere, the new CLS builds on the pioneering role of its predecessor yet at the same time is an entirely new edition. “The new CLS points the way forward for the future perceptible design idiom of Mercedes-Benz”, explains Professor Gorden Wagener, head of design at Mercedes-Benz. “At the same time it takes its inspiration from the great tradition of stylish, refined sportiness which has always been a feature of Mercedes coupés.”
EXTERIOR:
The proportions remain as spectacular as ever: long bonnet, narrow-look win-dows with frameless side windows, dy-namic roof sweeping back at an angle towards the rear. The four-door coupé from Mercedes-Benz immediately made its mark in 2003 as a new style icon. Now the proportions are the same - and yet everything is different: the second generation of this design trendsetter has adopted a completely new look.
What immediately strikes the eye is the innovative front design, which is reminiscent of the Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG. Visually, the radiator grille is not integrated into the bonnet but is formed separately. This highlights the long, sporty bonnet even further. The grille is dominated by the large central star, which underlines the car’s relationship to the other coupés of the brand and also enhances brand identity. The large, elongated dark air inlets with black grilles also add to the vehicle’s athletic appearance.
HIGH-TECH LIGHTING:
Another distinguishing feature comes in the form of the full LED headlamps,
which are the world’s first to offer all of the regular dynamic light functions using LED technology. This innovation boasts an impressive design - inside they are divided into three arrow-shaped layers from top to bottom: the upper layer contains an LED indicator, beneath which is a striking LED side light offering low beam functions. The side light can also be seen when the dipped beam function is switched on, thereby creating a novel and sepa-rate night-time design and distinctive look. The lowest level of the headlamp houses the main beam and nightview functions. A total of 71 LEDs not only provide an unmistakable appearance, but also a significantly enhanced view of the road compared with previous systems.
INTERIOR:
The interior of the CLS is also distinguished by a timeless design, which combines straightforward elegance with innovative details and handcrafted perfection. An eye-catching feature is the wrap-around effect of the cockpit: a high line sweeps from the driver’s door over the instrument panel support and across to the front passenger door. The central display has also been integrated harmoniously into the upper part of the instrument panel. At the same time, the downward sweeping side line on the doors continues the dynamic dropping line of the exterior. <

> Our immigration laws offer several options for foreigners who wish to invest in our economy. If done correctly, the invest-ments can benefit the u.S. economy while yielding a form of immigration status for the investor, allowing them to remain in the United States. Let’s take a look at some of these popular businesses visas.
Individuals with businesses abroad often desire to expand their operations into the United States. After all, our market offers un-paralleled opportunities for entrepreneurs. In such a case, the businessperson may register a corporation or another business entity within the United States and seek to become an intra-company transferee.
An intracompany transferee is eligible for an L-1 visa if he or she will be the manager, executive or an employee with specialized knowledge in the U.S. company and has been employed abroad continuously by the foreign operation for the immediate prior year. This visa is renewable for up to 8 years and offers a path to permanent residency.
Another popular visa is for pure inves-tors or foreign traders. E-2/E-1 visas, also known as the “treaty investor” or “Treaty trader” visas, are for nationals of a country who have a treaty with the United States. The national must be coming to the U.S. to develop and direct a business enterprise or to carryout trade between the U.S. and the treaty country. However, the investment or trade generated must be “substantial.” Although the regulations do not define “substantial,” it must be sufficient to ensure the successful operation of the enterprise. Usually, close to $100,000 of investment capital is sufficient, but the amount may be
less when it involves continuous trade. The drawback of this visa is that it does not cur-rently offer any path to permanent residen-cy. Lawmakers are currently contemplating legislation to alter this.
For few individuals who have enjoyed na-tional acclaim in a particular business field or in the entertainment industry in general, there may be other options. The O-1 visa is for a person of “extraordinary ability in the sciences, arts, or business which has been demonstrated by sustained national or international acclaim.” Similarly, the P-1 visa may also be an option for persons or athletes who perform or who are essen-tial parts of an entertainment group with wide international acclaim. The presence of these unique individuals invariably results in economic benefits to the united States through their performances or innovative endeavors. These visas may also offer a path to permanent residency in some cases. Finally, the Immigration and Nationality Act allows thousands of immigrant visas per year, which are available to qualified indi-viduals seeking permanent resident status on the basis of their engagement in a new commercial enterprise.
The EB-5 visa program offers permanent residence in the United States to an individ-ual who invests 1 million dollars (or half a million in certain cases) into a new business enterprise. The purpose of this investment is to create jobs for U.S. workers, as one of the core requirements is that the invest-ment must result in the creation of at least 10 new jobs employing U.S. workers.
Thus, the EB-5 investment program offers a quick path to residence for those who invest and benefit the u.S. labor market. However, like any business, the investor must evaluate the risks and return for each program.
During these economically challenging times, the business visa options may benefit our economy, while offering financial and immi-gration rewards to investors. The marriage of business and immigration may result in a win-win situation for everyone.<

> Hello Orlando! Did you miss me? Let me fill you in on what you missed and what to expect out of our favorite city!
We hope you were there on September 29th, for orlando Style and Mag-giano’s “rat Pack” event! Com-plimentary martinis, Sinatra, Dean Martin and the rest of the classic crooners, plus a team of Marilyn Monroe “tribute art-ists” made the evening very special. We throw awesome parties and events - and you need to come out with us. Stop what you’re doing right now, go to www.StyleToMe.com and sign up for our VIP Newsletter. You’ll be glad you did!
October 1st was the day that Orlando kicked it into high gear, with the opening of the new, state-of-the-art Amway Center! Besides being the new home for the orlando Magic - the Amway Center has a fantastic lineup of shows for the coming year, including some great music from The eagles and comedy from Tyler Perry and Chelsea Handler. And if you live in Downtown Orlando - like me - this world-class entertainment is only a skip away!
Have you ever been to a party in a jet hangar? On October 8th, orlando Style sponsored the luxury lifestyle Jet Port reception. Exotic cars, tasty morsels and well-mixed drinks, made this event totally spectacular. There was also a cool runway event.
While we talk about how great the runway to Hope was during Mall at Millenia’s 2010 Fashion Week that took place last month elsewhere in this issue - I’m going to talk about it again for a sec: it was phenomenal! Now that Lost is off the air, E! News is the only show that I DVR, and believe me when I tell you that I was completely thrilled to see and meet Giuliana rancic during the event. Giuliana was a fabulous red carpet host, and for a good cause too – money raised by the event went to the Arnold Palmer Medical Center Foundation.
And speaking of Giualiana, she must have fallen in love with Orlando, because she was here again on October 14th to the 17th for the Southern Women’s Show at the orange County Convention Center. Unique fashions, gourmet foods, makeovers, runway shows, and cooking classes made this event a one-stop shop for me! Food Network star Sandra lee was also on-hand, signing her new book, Wine and Women: A Guide to Buying, Pairing and Sharing. With the holidays coming up, I’d say that this book came just in time.
My favorite place on earth, besides my bed (I like to sleep in! Don’t get any ideas...), is the World Showcase at Epcot during the Food and Wine Festival. In its 15th year, this 6-week festival is special for so many reasons, but most of all, it’s because you can taste a variety of food and drink from all over the world – in a single evening! There are so many different vendors at the event that I always have to go twice - because inevitably, you always accidentally skip a country the first time. My favorite spots this year: Canada and France!
If you love food, wine and runway fashions, October was another fantastic month for Orlando. With the arrival of the new Amway Center, we expect our world-class city to steal a little more of the spotlight, and add a few more ‘must-do’s’ to every visitor’s list. Gone Whole HogPalmetto Creek Farms
By: Holly V. Kapherr

> Michael Pollan, food advocate, journal-ist and author of food manifesto, The Om-nivore’s Dilemma, said, “I serve the kind of food I know the story behind.” This kind of locavore eating has caught on among the foodie public, as farmer’s markets and food co-ops spring up all over the country, includ-ing Central Florida. The ability to eat food that has been grown locally and includes a sense of terrior, or place of origin, makes local eating not only a fine food trend, but also a very special practice. One local farmer, Jim Wood, raises high-quality pork for some of the best restau-rants in the area, including Spencer’s for Steaks and Chops in the Hilton Orlando. His Palmetto Creek Farms, in Avon Park, Florida, once raised more than ten different breeds of pig, but narrowed it down to the famed Hereford, the most popular heritage breed. These pigs, with their rust-colored bodies and white head and legs, are active and personable creatures with, as Pollan says, their own story.
The farm was established in 2001, just as foodies all over the world were drawn to the Slow Food movement, which espouses the ideals of home-cooked, high-quality food grown from local sources rather than meat from battery farms and produce from government-subsidized acreage. “We allow our animals to roam on the farm,” says Jim, “there’s no need to clip their tails or teeth as you would in a confined operation. We have happy pigs here.” In 2004, Jim and his family were invited, along with other farmers from Florida and southern Georgia, to take part in meat tast-ing at the University of Florida. The farmers were fed processed meat from a commer-cial buyer’s club next to the university’s in-tegrated farm. “The difference in quality was extreme. That night, I drove home ponder-ing what I could do to take our little farm from producing show pigs like Berkshires and durocs to high-quality meats,” says Jim. The answer: produce Herefords.

There is a major difference in the taste of grass-fed, free-range pork. The meat is her-baceous, redolent of the farm from which the pigs came. “The quality of the meat in the Hereford pig is far superior to other breeds,” says Jim. There are three main factors that contrib-ute to the high quality of Palmetto Creek Farms’ pork. First, the fat and protein con-tent in Hereford pigs is at a good balance, the goal for excellent quality meat, making the pork succulent and tender. The genetic make-up of the pigs is also an important factor in the quality of the meat. In Berkshires and Herefords, the fat has not been “bred out” of the animal, and the pH of the meat is near neutral, which helps the meat retain moisture during cooking. Lastly, the environment, or terroir, as wine aficionados refer to the land, in which the pigs are raised is of utmost importance. “If a pig is raised with too much stress, or
too little exercise, it will affect the quality of the meat for certain.” Just like humans, when animals receive too little exercise, it is more difficult for their muscles to produce the kinds of proteins needed to stay healthy. “It is our belief that exercise allows more oxygen in the blood to travel throughout the meat of the hog which provides meat with more redness in color,” says Jim. The hogs at Palmetto Creek Farm are free-range, which means they spend their entire lives outside eating natural grasses, bugs and flowers. They are raised on a low-protein diet, which allows the natural quality of the meat to develop while still meeting the ani-mals’ nutritional needs. Palmetto Creek Farms is a family-owned and operated establishment with friends and neighbors to lend a helping hand when-ever available. “Many of our friends helped us raise our barn and build the fence; it was all a labor of love,” says Jim. Many friends and family helped paint the barn, Jim and his
wife Debbie began pouring the concrete for the barn floor themselves, eventually hir-ing a contractor to finish the job. “We re-ally wanted to do it ourselves, but it about killed us. Once we saw the contractor do it, it was really simple…if you know what you’re doing.” Jim and Debbie may not be experts in pouring concrete, but they are authorities in all things pork. In 2007, a wine salesman introduced Jim and Debbie to Kathleen Blake, then executive chef at Primo, as well as Scott Copeland, then executive chef to K’s Restaurant & Wine Bar. Most recently, Jim showcased his product from Palmetto Creek Farms in special ‘pork’ cooking class, lunch and wine pairing at Spencer’s for Steaks and Chops. “We had a wonderful time showing off the work that we do every day. It’s wonderful to know that there are people who appreciate high-quality ingredi-ents from local sources,” says Jim.<

> “We had no idea there would be so many people here,” I overheard one vendor say. “We thought there would only be a hundred or so—I think I’ve served a thousand!” The first-annual Walt disney World Swan and Dolphin Food & Wine Classic combined top-notch beverages with high-quality food for a festival sure to become an instant classic and a destination food festival.
The evening started with a seminar on Belgian beers, fea-turing the Trappist Chimay bre-whouse and beers from West-malle and Orval. These beers are complex and interesting,
and led by Adam Bagwell and Rob Nelson, man-agers of Merchant du Vin beverage purveyors, the class was an informative look at the science of beer making and beer pairing. One of six bever-age seminars offered, including Riesling, Mixology (the science of cocktail making) and a primer on Japanese sake, the Belgian Beer class was full of passionate beer drinkers ready to expose their palates to something new.
In the courtyard between the Swan side and the Dolphin side of the resort, twenty vendors from wine representatives like smoky Malbec of Men-doza, sake-istas from Ty Ku and dueling bartend-ers from the Swan and Dolphin to delicious food representing the four award-winning restaurants at the Swan and Dolphin kept everyone enter-tained and well-fed for four delectable hours.
Celebrity chef Todd English was well represent-ed with an innovative shrimp cocktail shooter
served on dry ice in a test tube “Pipette.” We were instructed to just suck it all down in one slurp to taste the flavors all at once. The com-bination of fresh horseradish, chilled shrimp and cocktail sauce was a perfect amuse bouche. After that, I was primed to get to the real eating. Across the sidewalk, we found one of our favorite bites of the night: Tuna Tartare Nachos from the Ca-bana Bar and Beach Club. The name certainly doesn’t do this hors d’oeuvre justice. This scoop of sesame-spiked tuna tartare sat atop a baked tortilla chip and balanced on a squeeze of spicy sriracha aioli.
A bit further down, Executive Pastry Chef Lau-rent Branlard showed off his decadent desserts, including a raspberry macaron and homemade ice cream sandwiches. They went fast in the hu-mid evening air. Shula’s Steakhouse cooked steaks to order and served them with classic creamed spinach. Right next to that booth was a plethora of champagnes and sparkling wines from Moet & Chandon. Il Mulino sandwiched tomato braised meatballs between a mini-hoagie roll for a hearty appetizer. The Fountain served up the freshly fried chickpea patties known as falafel, served along-side a smoky Moroccan mayo. We finished off the evening at Todd English’s bluezoo, where the five-course tasting menu for $70 is a sure steal.
Mark your calendars for this event next year, Oc-tober 7–8, 2011, because the second year of this stellar Food & Wine Classic is sure to be even better than the first. <

88 :: city news
The Orlando Magic served as the developer of the Amway Center, which will host major national events, concerts and family shows. Opened last month, the facility is owned and operated by the City of Orlando on behalf of the Central Florida Community. The Amway Center was designed to reflect the character of the community, meet the goals of the users and build on the legacy of sports and entertainment in Orlando. The building exterior features a modern blend of glass and metal materials, along with ever-changing graphics via a monumental wall along one facade. A 180-foot tall tower serves as a beacon amid the downtown sky-line. At 875,000 square feet, the new arena is almost triple the size of the old Amway Arena (367,000 square feet). The build-ing features a sustainable, environmentally
friendly design and unmatched technology, featuring 1,100 digital monitors, the largest high-definition scoreboard in an NBA venue and multiple premium amenities available to all patrons in the building. BLUE presented by The Ritz-Carlton Club® is the perfect area to entertain clients, net-work, and get exclusive behind the scenes access. Located just across from the Magic locker room, BLUE puts members in the middle of the action as the team enters and exits the court while offering guests excep-tional, executive-level service.
This upscale, contemporary lounge allows season ticket holders to enjoy first and second row seating in Amway Arena with in-seat food and beverage service, while
taking advantage of other premium amenities such as: complimentary valet park-ing, private restrooms, an upscale bar, a deluxe buffet and more. Every level of ticket buyer will have access to the Bud-weiser Baseline Bar and
food court, Gentleman Jack Terrace, Club Restaurant, Nutrilite Magic Fan Experience and Orlando Info Garden, STUFF’s Magic Castle kid’s zone presented by Club Wynd-ham and multiple indoor-outdoor spaces which celebrate Florida’s climate.<

> Located in the heart of the City Beau-tiful, and just a mere 30-minute jaunt from major attractions, the Downtown Arts District is home to a hugely popular arts event called the Gallery Hop. On the Third Thursday of each month from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m., musicians and artists hit the sidewalks, trendy boutiques and café’s set up tempo-rary exhibits, and art galleries remain open late. Drawing crowds since it started in 2005, the Gallery Hop continues to trans-form the business district into the vibrant, independent arts enclave that it is today. The emerging art scene is anchored by the CityArts Factory (29 South Orange Avenue; 407-648-7060; cityartsfactory.com), which is managed by the Downtown Arts District (orlandoslice.com) and offers free admis-sion daily. A renowned interdisciplinary arts center boasting six eclectic galleries, an active photography studio, an art house café, and 200-seat improvisational theater, CityArts Factory has drawn national atten-tion to the area with its interactive events and innovative exhibitions. Visitors are wel-comed by a 25-foot Mona Lisa, which smiles upon its main entrance. Inside, guests will immerse themselves in an infusion of art by more than 50 local and regional artists. Mixed-use galleries like the intimate Blank Space Gallery (201 East Central Boulevard;
407-481-9010) and independent contem-porary Gallery at Avalon Island (37 South Magnolia Avenue; 407-317-8367; www.gal-leryatavalonisland.com) located in the Vic-torian-era rogers Building are a reflection of Downtown’s growing art scene. Orlando’s arts community is incredibly di-verse, well educated and vibrant. An under-current of creativity flows throughout the entire city, where public art is incorporated into architectural details, sculpture graces plaza courtyards, and artwork hangs on restaurant walls. It’s not uncommon to see temporary exhibits pop up in banks, infor-mation centers, movie theaters, sporting arenas, and even parking spaces. Throughout the past few years, more in-dependent boutiques and restaurants have joined the galleries, attracting a vibrant mix of young professionals, hipsters and sophis-ticates to the area. Much akin to Orlando’s personality, the variety unites multiple per-sonalities and makes the scene stronger and more hip. The Arts District offers much by way of cultural entertainment, which is paired nicely with a day at a café or a night on the town. By day, those with a hunger for history take-in the neo-classic style, Smithsonian affiliated, Orange County regional History
Center (65 East Central Boulevard; 407-836-8500; thehistorycenter.org) located inside the former 1927 Orange County Courthouse, while movie buffs head to the ultra-modern 12-screen Plaza Cinema Café (155 South Orange Avenue; 321-558-2878) to see the newest blockbuster to hit the big screen. After Dark, SAK Comedy Lab (29 South Orange Avenue; 407-648-0001; www.sak.com) at CityArts Factory takes the stage with live improv. Theater enthusiasts can enjoy a local theatrical performance at Mad Cow Theatre (105 South Magnolia Avenue; 407-297-8788; www.madcowthe-atre.com) or see a Broadway touring show presented by Florida Theatrical Association (301 East Pine Street #175; 407-423-9999; www.floridatheatrical.org). Sports fans and concertgoers will want to check out the schedule for the all-new Amway Center, of-fering some of the most advanced technol-ogy in the United States (400 West Church Street; 407-440-7900) While the Downtown Arts District offers food for thought, nearby eateries offer food for the senses. > For the past 10 years, Spanish wines have been
synonymous with value. It is the most widely planted
wine-producing nation in the world while being the third
largest wine producer. There are twenty native grape va-
rietals used towards wine production and you can find
an assortment of these grape varietals at Vines Wine and
Spirits. The quality of wine for the prices is amazing and
this category is always well received during wine tasting
events. Whether in search of sparkling wine, crisp whites,
or bold reds; Spain produces them at a great value.
Cava is a Spanish sparkling wine made in the same tra-
ditional method as French Champagne. With prices of
Champagne constantly on the rise, Cava has become
more and more popular over the years. It will pair well
with popcorn, fish tacos, shellfish, sushi or spicy Thai.
When it comes to bubbles, the Marques De Gelida Cava
at $16.99 is one of my favorites!
Albarino is sourced from northwest Spain in the Rias
Baixas and is pale golden lemon in color, crisp, elegant,
and fresh. Bone-dry and aromatic, these wines are packed
with flavors of white peach, apricot, melon, pineapple,
mango and honeysuckle. The wines have good natural
acidity, mineral overtones, and are medium-bodied with
moderate alcohol. Albarino will complement ceviche,
shellfish, chicken, or vegetarian dishes. I would suggest
the Cana Albarino 2007 for $14.99.
Verdejo is a varietal that has long been grown in the Rue-
da region in Spain. The wines are well balanced and struc-
tured. Verdejo wines have the taste and smell of pears and
can be nutty and honeyed after some aging in bottle. On
the palate it has a creamy texture, vibrant acidity, and in-
tense flavors leading to a lengthy, fruit-filled finish. The
Shaya Verdejo 2008 tasted great for $13.99. It will pair
well with Asian cuisine, chicken, seafood, ham, or Sushi.
Garnacha is one of the most widely planted varietals
throughout Spain. The wines of the Garnacha are charac-
terized by a very fruity, almost sweet taste. You will detect
blackberry and some pepper. Available in both red and
rose, two suggestions would be Las Rocas Garnacha 2007
for $10.99 and Borsao Rose Garnacha 2008 for $7.99.
The Las Rocas will pair great with grilled meats, wild
game, roasted pork, robust cheeses, or heavy Asian dishes.
The Borsao rose will complement delicate fish, turkey,
vegetarian dishes, and always makes a great pairing with
traditional Thanksgiving meals.
Tempranillo produces deep-colored wine with a fruity
taste and smell. These wines are very complex with notes
of spices, red fruits, plum, tobacco, vanilla, leather and herb,
and good minerality. Tempranillo is a very diverse wine
that can pair well with a variety of dishes. Tempranillo
sourced from Rioja, like the Lan Rioja Crianza 2005 at
$14.99, pairs well with chicken, ham, turkey, roasted pork,
grilled fish, and vegetarian dishes. A heavier Tempranillo,
like the Triton Tinto de Torro 2007 for $18.99, would pair
nicer with grilled red meats, roasted game, venison, lamb,
or barbecues. <
Celebrate the holidays with these fine Spanish wines.

> Numbers represent universal cycles and principles. Numerical analysis of the numbers linked to the name and birth date can help in understanding your place in the greater divine pattern of the universe. The philosopher-mystic Pythagoras, the father of numerology, once said that
“Evolution is the law of life.Number is the law of the universe. ”
Below are the alphabet correspondences used to determine the important numbers in names and words.
THE PYTHAGOREAN TABLE OF ALPHABET CORRESPONDENCES:
1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 9A B C D E F G H IJ K L M N O P Q RS T U V W X Y Z
The nine digits each have distinct traits. Become familiar with these keywords as a first step in mastering numerology.
• One will, leadership, vitality, independence, beginnings• Two sensitive, partners, emotions, receptive• Three expansion, creative, diplomatic, sociable• Four structured, boundaries, limitations, physical, grounded• Five dual, communicates, restless, adventure, witty, clever• Six domestic, loyal, concerned, artistic, refined, cultured• Seven intellectual, mysterious, mystical, reserved, occultism• Eight tenacious, materialist, accomplished, powerful, upward mobility• Nine universal, endings, humane, broad scope, spiritual, reflective
To calculate the numerical meaning of a name add together the digits until they reduce to the lowest form, which will always be one of the single digits.
EXAMPLE:
K O O H O L L I E2+6+6 + 8+ 6 +3 + 3+9+5 = 48 4+8=12 and 1+2=3
This is the destiny number, showing what you are destined to do and be. The consonants alone will reveal the personality while just the vowels added together describe the heart’s desire.
As you can see numbers are a most intriguing study. Number squares, diagrams in which numbers are arranged so they add to the same digit in each direction, have fascinated mathematicians since earliest times.
These squares are named for the planets and can contain only nine numbers or more than eighty.
Here is the Square of Saturn. The sum of each line is 15, no matter which way it’s added. It is thought to protect the bearer from old age, ill health or enemies. Copy it to carry with you or place it in your home or work place.

> With the busy holiday season just around the corner, the hustle and bustle of cooking, gift wrapping, decorating and spend-ing time with family and friends, pets can easily be forgotten and it is important to protect them from the many hazards the holiday season may bring. Many owners love including their pets during holi-day celebrations and by
taking special precautions, there is no rea-son to exclude them.
Decorating homes for the holidays can bring pride and joy to any household, but your furry friends may get too excited and get caught up in too much fun. First, make sure that your Christmas tree is secured. Pets may try to climb or curl-up underneath the tree, so it should be stable and unable to be knocked over. Stagnant water can hold bacteria; try purchasing a tree stand with a cover to keep your pets from drinking from it.
Be cautious when selecting ornaments, especially glass decorations that can break easily and be careful when choosing hooks, which, if ingested, could cause internal obstruction. Conceal electrical cords to prevent your pets from becoming wrapped up in them, or worse, chewing on them!
Plants and floral arrangements of poinsettia and mistletoe may bring a welcoming holiday cheer to your home but be reminded
that poinsettias can cause digestive upset and irritation to the skin and mouth. Holly berries are extremely toxic when ingested and mistletoe can cause stomach discomfort, irregular heartbeat and cardiac shock. Placement of hibiscus, pine needles and other centerpieces should be out of reach because your pets’ curiosity, together with their strong sense of smell, will likely lead them into trouble and possibly munching on your holiday décor!
Onions, raisins, grapes, chocolate, coffee or alcohol are extremely toxic and some, including chicken and turkey bones, can become a choking hazard by splintering and getting stuck in your pet’s throat, stomach or intestinal tract. This is a common holiday emergency that causes family gatherings to end abruptly so instruct your guests to refrain from feeding your pet(s) foods other than those listed in the “Pet Food Menu”!
Pets may also become stressed due to all the commotion brought on by the holiday festivities so it’s important to set aside a “safe place” to relax and seek shelter, such as a crate situated in a quiet area. Make certain there are no hazardous materials nearby such as small plastic toys, crayons, wrapping paper, ribbons and tape, etc.; these can contribute to choking and poisoning.
Last, reward your pets with their favorite food and treats and encourage your guests to play with them. Pets will understandably revel in the extra attention and care received and will most certainly enjoy the holiday festivities along with the whole gang! <
