The Ultimate Sacrifice

Whenever I think of the word sacrifice, the word

that comes to mind more than any other is

Christ. As we journey through the Passion Sea-

son, who best reminds us of a total sacrifice, the

Lord our Christ who got up out of the grave. His

death was complete total and sufficient. He did

what no mere man could do. He paid, He died

and because of one man’s death we now have

life eternally. This was one who knew no sin nor was polluted by sin, yet as Isaiah

53:5 says, “He was wounded for our transgressions, he was bruised for our iniqui-

ties: the chastisement of our peace was upon Him; and with His stripes we are

healed. Christ positions himself to be the ultimate healer and the resurrection from

the dead. Whether it be the only son of the widow in Nain in Luke 7, the raising of

Lazarus in John 11, or the little girl in Mark 5 to whom He said little girl “I say unto thee arise.” But can we dig deeper.

The Lord is calling us to rise to new life from the grave of complacency. Like the man by the pool in John 5 who was stuck

in a rut. To someone this Holy Day, this passion the Lord is commanding is rise and be made whole. Come out of the

fear, failure and addictive hold the enemy has on you. You are God’s, you were brought with a price. His blood trans-

forms, renews and seals. Have you checked Calvary? The grave is empty. The grave is empty because our Lord paid it

all. It is finished. Child of the Living God you are healed and sealed, walk in your newness of life in His power. Yours in Christ,

Trustee Arthur and Deaconess Geraldine Dillard have been married

for over twenty years. “Our marriage has sustained challenges just like

any other marriage but we have, and continue to keep Christ in the midst

of everything that we are confronted with.

From the beginning of our relationship, we acknowledged Jesus

Christ as the center of our lives, and profess Christ as our personal Sav-

ior. We recognize that marriage is truly a unique union between two

distinct different individuals, however the complete union is actually be-

tween God, Husband and Wife. With God in the midst of a marriage, the

Lent Lent is the Christian season of preparation before Resurrection Sunday. Ash Wednesday marks the first day or the start of the season of Lent which last 40 days. Many Christians ob-serve a period of fasting, repentance, modera-tion, and spiritual discipline. The purpose is to set aside time for reflection on Jesus Christ - His suffering and His sacrifice, His life, death, burial and resurrection.

I am a youth ministry leader. My calling is sure. My challenge is big. My vision is clear. My desire is strong. My influence is eternal. My impact is critical. My values are solid. My faith is tough. My mission is urgent. My purpose is unmistakable. My direction is forward. My heart is genu-ine. My strength is supernatural. My reward is promised. And my God is real.

In a world of cynicism, I offer hope. In a world of confusion, I offer truth. In a world of immorali-ty, I offer values. In a world of neglect, I offer attention. In a world of abuse, I offer safety. In a world of ridicule, I offer affirmation. In a world of division, I offer reconciliation. In a world of bitter-ness, I offer forgiveness. In a world of sin, I offer salvation. In a world of hate, I offer God’s love. I refuse to be dismayed, disengaged, disgruntled, discouraged or distracted. Neither will I look back, stand back, fall back, go back or sit back. I do not need applause, flattery, adulation, pres-tige, stature or veneration. I do not have time for business as usual, mediocre standards, small thinking, outdated methods, normal expectations, average results, ordinary ideas, petty disputes or low vision. I will not give up, give in, bail out, lie down, turn over, quit or surrender. I will pray when things look bad. I will pray when things look good. I will move forward when oth-ers stand still. I will trust God when obstacles arise. I will work when the task is overwhelming. I will get up when I fall down. My calling is to reach boys and girls for God. It is too serious to be taken lightly, too urgent to be postponed, too vital to be ignored, too relevant to be overlooked, too significant to be trivialized, too eternal to be fleeting and too passionate to be quenched. I know my mission. I know my challenge. I also know my limitations, my weaknesses, my fears and my problems. And I know my God. Let others get the praise. Let the church get the blessing. Let God get the glory. I am a ministry leader. I minister to children. This is who I am. This is what I do.

Sister Jackie Pope and the Youth Ministry performed two biblical stories on March 9, 2014. This was a won-derful time of fellow-ship and gave the youth insight and di-rection on following the Lord Jesus Christ.

David and Goliath - David trusted more in God than weapons of war. He knew that his battle was on behalf of the living God of Israel. Inter-estingly, David fought for God when it was ap-propriate but he did not try to take the throne from Saul. He let God fight the battles for him. David fought for causes not personal agenda. While we do not fight personal giants today we

do fight spiritual giants and emotional problems. Will you stand for God and allow him to do battle on your behalf?

Noah's Ark - It is easy to see the comparison with Jesus Christ as the Redeemer. In Noah's day, people were called to turn from their sins and return to God. When they refused to enter into the ark - a sign of trust-ing God's word - they were destroyed in the flood. Today we are called to repent of our sins and except Christ as our Savior. Those who have not excepted the Lord will be lost to a Christ-less eternity.

The Chesapeake Les Gemmes, led by Sister Inez Randolph, coordinates - Daughters of Destiny - a mentoring program for ages 12—17 at First Baptist Church

South Portsmouth.

Chesapeake Les Gemmes is a community based public service organization which implements

programs with the youth, family, health initiatives, cultural enrichment, and economic values. Since 2009 our members have begun

to facilitate back-to-school programs and to donate school supplies to the youth every August at First Baptist Church South Ports-

mouth. In October of 2012 we began a mentoring program with six girls from the ages of ten to eighteen. The program is named

“Lighting the Path for Girls based of Biblical Principles”. Members and community resource persons have conducted sessions with

the girls such as building self-esteem, learning beauty secrets, preparing for a career, becoming aware of domestic and personal

violence, and participating in movie night and a pool party.

Ingredients:

2 (Medium) Cans of Pork & Beans

1 (Medium) Vidal Onion- Diced

1 (Medium) Green Bell Pepper-

Diced

1 Tbs. Garlic- Minced

1 ½ Tsp. Ginger Powder

¼ Cup Maple Syrup

¾ Cup Brown Sugar

1 Tbs. Cajun Season

1 Tbs. Butter

Directions:

Sautee Peppers, Onions and Garlic

in melted butter. Remove from skil-

let and add to deep baking pan.

Add remaining ingredients and mix

well. Cover and bake in oven on

350 degrees for 2 hours. Let cool

and ENJOY!!

Heart disease is the leading cause of death for men and women in the United States. Every year, 1 in 4 deaths is caused by heart dis-ease. The good news? Heart disease can often be prevented when people make healthy choices and manage their health conditions. Communities, health professionals, and families can work together to create opportunities for people to make healthier choices. Make a dif-ference in your community: Spread the word about strategies for pre-venting heart disease and encourage people to live heart healthy lives.

How can American Heart Month make a difference?

We can use this month to raise awareness about heart disease and how people can prevent it — both at home and in the community. Here are just a few ideas:

Encourage families to make small changes, like using spices to season their food in-stead of salt.

Motivate teachers and administrators to make physical activity a part of the school. This can help students start good habits early.

Ask doctors and nurses to be leaders in their communities by speaking out about ways to prevent heart disease.

Get Involved Take action to promote heart health.

1. Celebrate National Wear Red Day to raise awareness about women and heart disease. Encour-age everyone in your community to wear red on February 1. Visit www.goredforwomen.org for more information. 2. Host an American Heart Month event at local schools, health centers, and libraries. Work with lo-cal recreation and fitness centers to spread the word about the importance of physical activity to pre-vent heart disease. 3. Contact your local Red Cross to host a CPR (cardiopulmonary resuscitation) training event in your community. Urge local community members to learn CPR and AED (automated external defibrilla-tor). These skills can help save the life of someone who has sudden cardiac arrest. 4. Host a 20-minute group walk around your office at lunch time. 5. Conduct a cooking demonstration using a heart-healthy recipe.

ceived a scholarship for $48,000 each year for a period of four years. His parents are

Mr. and Mrs. Jimmy Elliott. His grandmother in New Jersey is Ms. Erica Scruggs, Dea-

coness Mills' daughter.
