We have been busy planning for the NABSW’s 44th Annual Conference,

We would LOVE to see each of you there, so I hope your student chapters
are working hard at making plans to get there! We encourage each of you
to pre-register early and take advantage of the reduced rates for both early

This year, in accordance with the theme of this OSA administraon: “Taking Hold of Our Own Desny”, we
encourage you all to get involved at conference. As a student, there are many ways to get involved. We
encourage you to sign up to volunteer for OSA during the conference as well as to parcipate in OSA
scheduled acvies such as the OSA Day of Service, OSA Symposium, and our annual OSA party. Our OSA 1st

Happy Holidays & Seasons Greetings!
As you enjoy winter break and prepare for the spring semester,
I hope your days are filled with peace. Here is something to keep in
mind as you complete your holiday shopping and tackle New Year’s
Resolutions and task list. African Americans account for 12.6 % of the
US population (according to the 2010 U.S. Census) and account for
over 913 billion in spending yearly. Major corporations have spent
over 1.9 billion dollars advertising in black communities. Proctor &
Gamble, L’Oreal, Johnson & Johnson, General Motors, and
McDonald’s top the list. In order for our money to impact the black
community, it has to exchange hands 7 times. So whether you are
making everyday purchases, major purchases or preparing for OSA
fundraisers, think about our community and the impact of spending
your dollars with African American owned businesses and the
economic impact suffered in our communities if you don’t. So as our
government continues to debate the budget, where dollars should be
spent and what programs will be cut, I ask you, who will your dollars
benefit?
Asante Sana (Thank You),
