THE PROJECT CONSIST ON A BUS STOP/SHELTER FOR THE BUS STOP OF MILLBROOK NEW YORK.

THE LOCATION IS LACATED BETWEEN TWO TREERS THAT ARE NOT BEING REMOVED BUT INCORPORATED

INTO THE DESIGN. THE SHELTER TOOOK A MODERN APPROACH USING THE ARC AS THE MAIN

STRUCTURAL ELEMENT AND AND CREATING OPENINGS TO ALLOW VISIBILITY INTO THE STRUCTURE.

THE PROJECT IS STRUCTURALLY AND DESIGN WISE ECONOMICAL AND CAN BE INCORPORATED INTO DIF-

FERENT LOCATIONS.

THE PROJECT WAS DESIGN IN OR DER TO HOUSE THE WORKS OF A sALVADOR DALI.

iNFLUENCED BY HIS WORK ON SUBREALISM I CREATED A WALL WITH SIX INCHES THICK

PANELS. THE PANELS WILL ROTATE BY THEIR CENTER IN ORDER TO CREATE CIRCULATION

AS WELL TO ALLOW NATURAL LIGHT INTO THE SPACE WHEN THE GALLERY IS OPEN. THE

PANELS ARE DERRIVED FROM THE MOST FAMOUS PAINTING OF THE ARTIS. THE ILLUSION I

INTENDED TO CREATE WAS THAT BY LOOKING AT THE PANES ON THE SIDE ONE CAN ONLY

SEE A SURFACE WITH EXTRUDING CURVES BUT WHEN SEEING FROM THE FRONT THE IMAGE

IS CLEARLY VISIBLE.

Storefront is located in a unique triangular ground-level space onKenmare Street in the Chinatown/Little Italy/Soho area of New York City.Situated on a major downtown thoroughfare between three radicallydifferent cultural sectors, Storefront attracts a diverse audience. Nearly100 feet long, the gallery tapers from 20 feet to 3 feet at its west end.

The Façade project

In 1993, Storefront commissioned a collaborative building project byartist Vito Acconci and architect Steven Holl. The project replaced theexisting façade with a series of wall panels that pivot vertically orhorizontally, enabling the entire length of the building to open directlyonto the street. Storefront’s façade is now regarded by many as acontemporary architectural landmark and is visited each year bythousands of artists, architects, and students from around the world. Thefaçade exemplifies Storefront’s commitment to alternative architecturaland artistic practices.

The place is shaped like a slice of pizza, and it’s not much bigger, butthere’s nothing small about the visions on view at Storefront for Art andArchitecture. Art exhibitions at Storefront, which operates on ashoestring, have been putting museums to shame for years.— The New Yorker
