Awe-Inspir ing Alaska Cruise (Aug 2018) – Destinations

The Inside Passage Shaped by the staggering force of massive glaciers millions of years ago, Alaska’s Inside Passage boasts wildlife-filled fjords and lush island scenery — habitat for bald eagles, sea lions, porpoises and whales. Its mountains are carpeted with majestic forests. Inside Passage Alaska is home to Tlingit, Haida and Tsimshian Indians whose history is reflected in towering totem poles. Russian settlers left a legacy of onion-domed churches gleaming with icons.

Ketchikan, Alaska An Alaskan city facing the Inside Passage, Ketchikan is a popular town along the state's southeastern coast, known for its many Native American totem poles. Stoll the charming town to see the totems, browse local shops, and enjoy at lunch of regional specialties. Take an excursion to see wildlife such as including black bears, wolves and bald eagles in their natural habitats. Ride a float-plane to explore the nearby Misty Fiords National Monument, a glacier-carved wilderness featuring snowcapped mountains, waterfalls hilltop lakes and experience the true meaning of the word “awesome!”

Tracy Arm Fjord & Sawyer Glacier Tracy Arm, a classic fjord, stands out as a “must see” for any Alaska vacation. Sailing in the fjord brings spectacular mountains, waterfalls, wildlife, glaciers and icebergs into view – offering a truly “awesome” panorama! At the interior end of the fjord is Sawyer Glacier, an active tidewater glacier, which means it “calves” or breaks off. Pieces of ice anywhere from the size of a small car to a cruise ship fall off the face of the glacier and hit the water with a thunderous roar. No matter how many times you visit Sawyer Glacier, it is always a thrill to see a

calving event. The water at the end of the fjord is nearly 600 feet deep and when an underwater calving takes place, the ice remains intact, giving us Alaska’s largest icebergs.

Sitka, Alaska Called "Shee Atika" by the Tlingit Indians, then "New Archangel" by the Russians who ousted them, Sitka boasts a multicultural heritage including picturesque remnants of its Russian heritage, including the onion-shaped domes and gold colored crosses of the beloved Saint Michael's Russian Orthodox Cathedral. Two dozen of its attractions are on the National Register of Historic Places, including Castle Hill and Building 29, a structure built by the Russians in 1835. The Sheldon Jackson Museum exhibits one of Alaska's oldest native culture collections.

Prince Rupert, British Columbia British Columbia's most northern coastal city, Prince Rupert sits on the very edge of the wilderness and is a gateway to areas like the Khutzeymateen Grizzly Sanctuary bear habitat. The majority of its attractions revolve around the outdoors, such as sport fishing or a walking tour of the bonsai-like forest at Oliver Lake. Wildlife abounds, including bears, mountain goats and a variety of migrating whales. Humpback whales swim in the fish-filled waters offshore. However, the town offers boutiques and cafes, which dot

the waterfront area. The Museum of Northern B.C. showcases the region’s natural and cultural heritage. South, the North Pacific Cannery traces the city’s salmon-canning history. Seattle, Washington The largest city in the Pacific Northwest, Seattle is located between Puget Sound and Lake Washington and is nicknamed “The Emerald City” as the green gem, with an abundance of evergreen trees throughout. With spectacular views of the Cascade mountains to the east and the Olympic mountains to the west, Seattle is the cultural and business center of the region, home of the Space Needle, Boeing's aircraft assembly plants, Microsoft, Amazon.com, Starbucks, and has a vibrant arts and music scene and an excellent park system. Extend your stay after the cruise to discover the city on your own or join in the Osher Marin JCC’s Simply Seattle trip (August 9-12, 2018).

Awe-Inspir ing Alaska Cruise (Aug 2018) – On-Board Dining

The Grand Dining Room Handsomely decorated in rich woods, designer tapestry fabrics and oversized armchairs, The Grand Dining Room exudes classic splendor. Formally attired and classically trained wait staff graciously serve course after course of European-inspired cuisine or delectable alternatives such as light & healthy Canyon Ranch Spa Cuisine and gourmet vegan options. As variety is essential, menus change daily with a brilliant choice of at least 10 appetizers, soups, salads and 12 entrées at dinner.

Polo Grill Polo Grill embodies all the elements of a classic steakhouse, expressing them with timeless reverence. Mindful of tradition, the decor features crisp, white linen tablecloths, dark wood furnishings and supple, high-back, burgundy leather chairs. Each course stands as the very definition of time-honored favorites, most notably the beef dishes, all of which are USDA Prime and dry-aged for 28 days to enhance tenderness and flavor. Succulent seafood dishes such as Grilled Swordfish and Whole Maine Lobster Gratinée are also classics in their own right. The Classic Caesar Salad, too, is prepared according to tradition, tableside and with gusto.

Toscana In Italian, “Toscana” means “Tuscan,” and just as Tuscan cuisine evolved from rich family traditions, many of the recipes here originated with the mothers and grandmothers of the ship’s Italian culinary staff. Presented on elegant, custom-designed Versace china, masterfully prepared dishes exemplify the essence of Tuscany and celebrate Italy’s culinary passion. Perhaps the evening begins with an appetizer of Octopus Carpaccio with Champagne Vinaigrette or the

Artichoke and Parmesan Cheese Timbale with Black Truffle Sauce. Classic dishes from other regions of Northern Italy are featured as well, such as the Minestrone alla Genovese, Lasagne al Forno alla Bolognese and Osso Buco alla Milanese.
