Dress for Success Sydney is a not-for-profit organisation that serves women who cannot find employment and have fallen into financial difficulty.
Our programs provide donated work clothing, mentoring, job-search skills, career coaching and networking so these women have the best chance of securing a job that can transform their life for the better.

Every year Dress for Success Sydney helps over 3,000 unemployed women who do not have the money or the support to invest in a job search. Often our clients have been isolated and are afraid for their future.
The majority of women we support need help to relaunch their career after redundancy, a challenging job search due to gender, age or cultural bias, the lack of opportunity in rural areas, a health crisis, divorce, domestic violence or bias faced by the LGBTQIA community.
We also offer services for women in correctional facilities or to those living with a disability.
One third of our clients are parenting and use their limited resources to protect their children from the trauma of financial distress.
Women are referred to Dress for Success Sydney by employment agencies, migrant services, social workers, teachers or other social agencies. We also serve a small number of walk-in clients in need.
Services to rural and regional clients are growing across NSW with over 100 pack-and-send outfits mailed monthly from our Marrickville headquarters.
Our Illawarra showroom offers dressing services and an expanding career workshop program, and pop-up dressing services are provided in other regions. Pack and send services are also provided to women in correctional facilities.
Over 3,000 women make a change with our help.

When one of our trained and compassionate dressing mentors meets with a woman rebuilding after being unemployed, the job interview clothing they put together is so much more than an outfit. It’s a vision to aspire to. It’s the seed of self-belief.
When our expert coaches counsel that same woman on career goals and interview tactics, it’s so much more than an update on business practices. It’s the confidence to get and keep a job.

How we’re helping.
01 | Interview dressing servicesAn hour with an experienced and empathetic dressing mentor, trained to create a top-to-toe interview outfit reflecting the personality and goals of each client. Donated outfits include underwear, quality garments, shoes, handbags and accessories.
02 | Employment support workshopsCorporate professionals present workshops on interview skills, navigating the job market and other topics.Weekly mock-interview and resume assistance workshops are provided by professional recruitment agencies.
05 | A “Got the Job” return dressing service A second appointment with a dressing mentor for a 5-day job start mix-and-match wardrobe, so she can feel confident at work every day.
03 | Networking support groupsConnection with DFSS job-search peers also engaged in interviews or new career starts.
04 | One-on-one coaching sessionsEmployment or study-focussed coaching by qualified coaches over ten free sessions.
Our five-step process.
Our process of matching skilled volunteer specialists with clients who are rebuilding their career path is central to our service.
Dressing mentors build a connection with each client to tailor each outfit to their needs.
Mock interview, resume and career coaches work with each client’s background to help tailor a strong path forward through the job search process.
We support clients with over 17,000 volunteer hours every year.

It is our mission to empower more women in need to achieve economic independence through our programs.
Our programs work. 99% of our clients say they feel more prepared for their job interview and 98% feel more empowered to achieve their employment goals. Even more pleasing, more than 58% of our clients secure a paying job and another 14% commence study.
But we can’t do this alone. We need your financial support. Without ongoing government funding, your much needed donations help fund the showroom and warehousing space, workshop facilities and operations that help us change the lives of disadvantaged women.

We are proud to promote fashion re-wear as a cornerstone of sustainable and environmental business practices and to support the war on waste in Australia.
Launched in 2009, Dress for Success Sydney has been a pioneer in collecting and curating premium quality, gently worn business garments, shoes, handbags and accessories to be passed-on for a second life with women in need.
All dressing items are donated to Dress for Success by local businesses and individuals. Donations in excess of our dressing service needs or items that are not appropriate for business wear are sold in DFSS-managed sustainable garage sales and fashion re-wear sales.
