У сьогоднішному євангельскому чи-танні чули ми як Христос вибирає пер-ших своїх учнів Побачив Він насампе-ред двох братів Андрея і Симона що якраз закидали мережі в озеро бувши рибалками і закликав їх словами Ідіть за мною і я зроблю вас рибалка-ми людей Змістя покинули вони свої мережі і пішли вслід за Христом

На іншому місці у євангелії читаємо що ці два брати ловили рибу цілу ніч і нічого не зловили а Христос ранком каже їм щоб ще раз закинули свої ме-режі і вони наловили так багато риб що мережі рвалися Петро побачувши це наявне чудо припав до ніг Ісусових і сказав йому Відійди від мене бо я грішна людина Христос не тільки що не відійшов від нього але закликав йо-го іти за ним І то в час коли здавалося все добре іде бо ж ловитва виявилася успішною

Поклик Хрис-товий не одержу-ємо тоді коли не-ма іншого вихо-ду але тоді коли маємо можли-вість вибору бо іти за Христом має бути добровільно маємо цього бажати і старатися ніко-ли від Господа не віддалюватися не звертаючи увагу що одержамо або що стратимо не дивлячися чого нам треба відректися

Часами коли трудніщі прийдуть бу-ло б вигідно залишити усе і піти дале-ко шукати за спокоєм де інде Але спо-кою не може бути якщо ми не сповни-

мо свої обовязки супроти своєї роди-ни супроти тих які на нас поклада-ють надію

Буває так що ми ціле життя тру-димося щоб знайти своє щастя Не-раз починаємо сумніватися а чи ми є доволі сильними щоб перебороти усі труднощі які виринають на нашому життєвому шляху Часто опиняємося в положенню з якого здається немає виходу Чи ми зможемо нести ті хрес-ти що їх покладено на нас А ми їх мусимо нести і донести до кінця Не-сім свої хрести достойно а по дорозі до єдности з Христом допоможім ін-шим нести їхні хрести щоб ми разом прославляли Господа тут на землі і перебували разом у Царстві Божім де не має болісті ні печалі ні зітхання але життя безконечне

Христос нам по дорозі допоможе Він кожного і кожну з нас так як тих апостолів кличе Іди за мною Іду-чи за Христом ми осягнемо це чого наше серце бажає Робім так як він робив Своїми ділами проповідуймо розпятого і воскреслого Хреста Хай інші у нашій любові до них побачать любов Христову до нас усіх

Ми також є апостолами на тому місці де нас Господь покликав і дору-чив завдання виконати Апостоли ви-конали Господні доручення і дали нам добрий приклад як і ми можемо сповнити свої Ми не можемо сто процентово наслідувати кого небудь зі святих Кожний і кожна з нас своєю дорогою має іти за Христом а всеми-лостивий Господь дасть нам вистар-чально сили на цій дорозі

Good Morning to you Right off the batlet me get some very unpleasant and dis-turbing news out of the way ndash ldquoFather JohnCorapirdquo Thousands and thousands of goodpeople have felt devastated abandoned be-trayed and yes I suppose more than a feweven have had their faith shaken at the al-most unbelievable news that he has left thepriesthood Itrsquos been a real nightmare forbelievers His departure came last Sundaythe 20th anniversary of his priesthood as aresult of his being charged with ldquoactionsnot befitting a priestrdquo Translate that to sexand drugs

As of now no one knows if he is guilty orinnocent and in a way thatrsquos even besidethe point What needs to happen now is thateach and every one of us once again mustconfirm our own faith in our Lord and Godand Savior Jesus Christ and as we say inour Liturgy ldquocommend ourselves and eachother and all our life unto Christ our GodrdquoAnd in the words of our Savior to Peterwhen Peter asked Him ldquoWhat about him(referring to St John) John 2121 The Lordanswered by saying ldquohellipwhat does it mat-ter to you You are to follow Merdquo John2123 Basically Jesus was telling Peterthat he should mind his own business Inother words ldquoPeter you have heard mymessage you have said you love Me threetimes you have said you will follow MeNow just do it Donrsquot worry about anybodyelserdquo

We do not know for sure what is going onright now but it is a story that will defi-

nitely be continued As for now all of usneed to remain faithful and prayerful (forourselves for each other for Fr John forthe Church and for all those involved) andtake to heart and listen to the words of ourSavior so often repeated by Pope JohnPaul II ldquo Be not afraid Be of good cour-agerdquo Let us be faithful and continue onhellipwe have said we loveHIM we will followHIM now let us justdo it Things are sooften confusing andmixed up but weknow only HE is ldquotheWay the Truth andthe Liferdquo HE has thewords of eternal lifeldquoIt doesnrsquot matterwhat the crowdbelieves about theLord What mattersis Do you believewhat God says in Hiswordrdquo (anonymous)

OK and life goes onhellipsure is a battlesometimes though Whatrsquos that about ldquoper-severing to the endrdquo Right now it is earlyThursday morning on this first full day ofsummer Irsquom sitting with ldquoolrsquo Mr Macrdquoenjoying that first cup of coffee and theearly morning sights and sounds of a glori-ous day A pleasant breeze is making thecurtains dance to the music of the windchimes in the tree outside my door We nolonger have any kids in grade school orteachers in our house so Irsquom not sure ex-actly when is or was the last day of schoolFrom the sounds late last night and eventhis morning I would say itrsquos VACATIONI can hear those wonderful ldquohappy voicesrdquoin several of the yards around us

I like to mention our visitors to ldquoHolyProtectionrdquo whenever we have them Yes-terday we had Liturgy at noon and just as Iwas finishing and closing the Royal Doorsthere was a loud call from the back of thechurch that we had a visitor ldquoTherersquos abird in the churchrdquo

It was a bit warm so we had the maindoor open and the little chickadee flew inHe mustrsquove been Roman Catholic becausehe didnrsquot want to stay long and was tryingto get back out Fortunately he stayedin the vestibule and after a few attemptsand a few tricks by those who were at theLiturgy Father in all his vestments wasable to pick up the poor scared little thingand release him out to the lsquowildsrsquo of the Ni-agara streets He was so happy that he hadattended our Liturgy when I went outsideafterwards he was on the roof and actuallyfollowed me to the back of the Church sing-ing his little song as I locked gates etc Itranslated his chirping to mean ldquoThanksfor your help Nice Mass Fodderrdquo Andthen he flew away St Francis pray untoGod for us

Irsquom sure your calendar is jam-packedwith all kinds of things for these summerdays and weekends I know ours is Wed-dings anniversaries birthdays paradespicnics etc etc are all on the agenda Howabout breakfast on the patio Or lsquojust sit-tinrsquo on the back porch And donrsquot forgetthat vacation when we are supposed ldquotorest and ldquore-create ourselvesrdquo As a matterof fact we all have those weekends whenthere are just too many things going on andwe have to decide which event is most im-portant

I hope you can enjoy some of these happytimes with family and friends In all ourcomings and goings we praise the Lord for

His many gifts and blessings to us espe-cially the gift of Life In all our days letus walk with Him giving thanks as wesing ldquoThis is the Day the Lord has madelet us rejoice and be glad in it Have asafe and happy summer wherever you goand whatever you do

One day St Francis was giving out moneywhich he had collected for the poor to those inthe community who were suffering from fam-ine poverty and disease A wealthy man whohad done some building work in a Church forSt Francis saw this and was envious He wentup to St Francis asking for money on the basisthat he had been underpaid for his work StFrancis simply filled the builderrsquos hands full tooverflowing with coins and told him to comeback if the money was insufficient The builderleft and did not return for some time He hadwanted this money more than anything he hadeven planned on how he would use this moneyfor his own benefit But before the buildercould even spend a single coin a tremendousfeeling came over him and he knew right awaywhat he must do When the builder returned toSt Francis he had sold all he owned he gavethe money to St Francis to give away to thepoor and he joined the religious order Some-times giving can seem like giving in like loosingeven like madness but only God can give us thewisdom and power for this sort of giving Wewill always be amazed by the wondrous thingsthat can happen when we place our trust in thehands of the Lord

Christrsquos power to give came from His inti-macy with God and it is this same intimacy thatwe Christians are offered through the HolySpirit With the Holy Spirit dwelling inside ofus we can grow an inner knowledge that Godrsquosways are not only right - but good Then know-ing by experience the goodness of His right-eousness we find we can agree with the will ofGod much more easily There is no order toobey but a divine lsquoyesrsquo to follow and it fills uswith Christrsquos innate ability to give We too canwant to give see the goodness and righteousnessin giving and be empowered to give if we askJesus to transform our hearts and minds for thebetter When Nelson Mandela was a politicalprisoner in South African jails for twenty someyears he discovered even there he had some-thing he could give to others dignity and re-

spect The privileges he fought hardest forwere things which would give the prisonerrsquos ingeneral some small amount of dignity and re-spect And as a result he became their spokes-man And even when he was taunted abusedand beaten by his captors he tried with all hismight to treat even the abusers with dignityand respect and encouraged others to do thesame This spirit gave both prisoners andguards hope and significantly reduced the vio-lence that occurred It also marked Mandela asa man who could be respected and trusted aman with whom the government could negoti-ate the hand over of political power with safetyAnd what an incredible change it made for thepeople of South Africahellip

The worst thing in life is not failing butrather succeeding in a worldly pursuit thatleaves no room for God in our lives There havebeen times in the life of every Christian whenwe recognize that the greatest thing we can dowith our life is to bring someone else closer toChrist The call of the first disciples was tomake them ldquofishers of menrsquos soulsrdquo - a disciple-ship that would bring people closer to Christand ultimately closer to God the Father We allknow people that we have wanted to give up onin life because we forget to consider the follow-ing Jesus wants us to be someone whose heartis moved to reach out to all the people aroundus and bring them closer to the Lord But inorder to accomplish this goal in life are wewilling to lay aside our personal ambitions andplans in order to fully follow Christ We wit-nessed in todayrsquos Gospel that the first disciplesdid just this They left everything behind themevery worldly pursuit that had and followedChrist God is always calling always summon-ing us into being - our Lord is never inactivenever uninvolved I believe our Lord is alwayscalling out to each of us saying lsquoCome and fol-low Mersquo In the same way St Paul once wroteLet us cease in fighting one another so we maylearn to forgive and love one another It is thepersonal duty of every Christian to demon-strate this kind of love to everyonehellip

I like to mention our visitors to ldquoHolyProtectionrdquo whenever we have them Yes-terday we had Liturgy at noon and just as Iwas finishing and closing the Royal Doorsthere was a loud call from the back of thechurch that we had a visitor ldquoTherersquos abird in the churchrdquo

It was a bit warm so we had the maindoor open and the little chickadee flew inHe mustrsquove been Roman Catholic becausehe didnrsquot want to stay long and was tryingto get back out Fortunately he stayedin the vestibule and after a few attemptsand a few tricks by those who were at theLiturgy Father in all his vestments wasable to pick up the poor scared little thingand release him out to the lsquowildsrsquo of the Ni-agara streets He was so happy that he hadattended our Liturgy when I went outsideafterwards he was on the roof and actuallyfollowed me to the back of the Church sing-ing his little song as I locked gates etc Itranslated his chirping to mean ldquoThanksfor your help Nice Mass Fodderrdquo Andthen he flew away St Francis pray untoGod for us

Irsquom sure your calendar is jam-packedwith all kinds of things for these summerdays and weekends I know ours is Wed-dings anniversaries birthdays paradespicnics etc etc are all on the agenda Howabout breakfast on the patio Or lsquojust sit-tinrsquo on the back porch And donrsquot forgetthat vacation when we are supposed ldquotorest and ldquore-create ourselvesrdquo As a matterof fact we all have those weekends whenthere are just too many things going on andwe have to decide which event is most im-portant

I hope you can enjoy some of these happytimes with family and friends In all ourcomings and goings we praise the Lord for

His many gifts and blessings to us espe-cially the gift of Life In all our days letus walk with Him giving thanks as wesing ldquoThis is the Day the Lord has madelet us rejoice and be glad in it Have asafe and happy summer wherever you goand whatever you do
