Meet Our Resident Council Member of the Month for January, 2014
Hilda Bracali
Joseph and Emma Schimeneck of Allentown, Pa., gave birth to a daughter on March 7, 1937, and named her Hilda.
Hilda attended school in Allentown. When Hilda met Jim Bracali, she knew she met the man with whom she would
make a great life. James and Hilda were married on February 2, 1957. They raised two children, James and Sheila. The
family enjoyed their time together. Hilda and James watched their two children grow up, and have families of their own.
Hilda was always very proud of her children. She enjoyed telling stories about them and sharing what was going on in
their lives with staff and friends. She adored her grandchildren and loved watching them grow. Hilda was a member of
Sacred Heart of Jesus Catholic Church and the former Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Catholic Church, Allentown. Devoted to
her faith, she attended Mass each Sunday.
Hilda worked as the Payroll Supervisor at Holy Family Manor. She did the payroll all by hand, before there were
computers, for the over 300 employees of CSHHCS, Inc,. Hilda’s work ethic was remarkable. She was very proud of the
accuracy of her work and very much enjoyed her co-workers. Staff at HFM remember Hilda not just for her hard work
and personality, but also for her amazing cut out cookie recipe. Each Christmas she brought in some of her tasty treats to
share. During her stay as a resident, Hilda was a member of the Resident Council, serving as President in 2013. Hilda’s
family devotion was reciprocated by her children, who visited quite often. They were by her side when she was called to
her heavenly home December 20, 2013. Hilda will always be remembered for her special smile, sharp wit, and gentle
laugh. Those who worked with Hilda at HFM will always remember the efficient, hard working generous lady who led
by her wonderful example.

OUR FAMILY NEWS
Chaplain’s Letter
Dear Friends,
A very HAPPY and BLESSED NEW YEAR!
It seems unreal to write the year of 2014, but it has arrived! It has arrived and promises us great things. As we
begin the secular observation of the new year, we begin it liturgically by honoring the Blessed Mother on January
first, and, our own American Saints, Elizabeth Ann Seton, and John Neumann during the week! Of course, we
also get to celebrate what many call “Little Christmas” --- the Feast of Epiphany on January 5th.
Have we had an Epiphany in our own lives? It simply means has the Lord revealed himself to us in some way. I
believe that each of us can answer YES, that the Lord Jesus has shown Himself to us it the simple things of our
life. Have we ever thought about that … just the very action of starting our day can be a sign of God’s love. Let
us rejoice today, that we have received the Epiphany in so many ways throughout our lives!
May 2014 bring you many blessings and epiphanies!
God bless!
Fr. Cliff

Generator Project Fifty years ago Holy Family Manor was founded as a home for 42 elderly “where love of God and love of neighbor abound.”
Times have changed but the need for loving, compassionate care based on Catholic values and the healing mission of Jesus has
not. Holy Family Manor has a critical need to ensure safety and security for residents: emergency power, which became critical
one year ago in the aftermath of Hurricane Sandy. Since the current system was put into place in 1966 the needs of residents
have increased dramatically and require extensive electrically powered medical equipment. The Board of Directors has decid-
ed to replace our 1966 era generator with a new one that will enable Holy Family Pavilion’s entire electrical system to operate
at full power in the event of an outage. Our goal is to raise $100,000 toward this important project.
Please consider donating to the Holy Family Manor Annual Fund. Donation envelops are at the Reception Desk and the Busi-
ness Office, or contact the Development Office at x409 or [email protected]. Thank you for helping to ensure the safety and security of residents.
******UPDATE!******
It may be cold outside but inside our thermometer is rising! Thank you to everyone who has contributed to our campaign to raise $100,000 toward replacing the 1966 era generator that serves Holy Family Manor with a new one that will provide full power to in the event of an outage. Donations and pledges received so far are up to $55,000.
Big Changes in the Activity Department!
Through the generosity of our board of directors and the vision of Activity Director Rose Lance, with the support of
Administrator Susan Regalis, the activity department is poised to make big strides in programming in 2014. Recog-
nizing the critical role that keeping engaged plays in: retention of psychological, cognitive, and physical abilities;
development of new hobbies and interests; reduction of restraints and alarms; and the reduction of psychoactive
medication. To help achieve these goals in 2014, the activity department will have the ability to conduct programs
from 9am-5pm in each of our 4 neighborhoods. Additionally, two staff members will be scheduled each evening.
Each of our neighborhoods will be independent in activity programming. The residents in each neighborhood will
meet with their activity staff person to choose activities and participate in the planning process. Changes will be seen
as staff is trained and new assignments undertaken.
