Our Harvest of the Month is APPLES
Elementary-aged children should be getting approximately
25 grams of fiber per day, but that amount is not easy to
achieve! Not only do apples provide fiber, but they also contain pectin, a source of
prebiotics that helps to feed the healthy bacteria in your gut. Be
sure to eat apples with their skin, or you may miss out on a
lot of these benefits. Apple season in Connecticut lasts from
early September through late October. Try purchasing apples from your local farmers market to experience them as fresh as possible. Craving apple pie? Try drizzling a bit of honey on apple
slices, and sprinkling with cinnamon for a healthy and
tasty snack.
