International Health & Wellness Committee

The 100’s health and wellness goals are to raise awareness, provide access to health care and give health information that will ultimately promote behavior change resulting in a healthier lifestyle. The organization’s Health & Wellness Committee provides leadership to chapters as they establish health & wellness committees at the local level.

“Through civic and corporate partnerships, the 100 delivers health education programs and free health screenings in hundreds of

communities annually.”

100 Black Men Health & Wellness Priorities

• Chronic disease• Heart health• Diabetes• Stroke

• Brain health• Behavioral health (mental health)• Cancer• Prostate


Prostate Cancer Activities

• In 2012, announced guidelines for men at highest risk of being diagnosed with prostate cancer• In 2018, the 100 updated its position statement to include

"individualized decision making" • Stage Early Detection events including education and PSA tests• Recruit chapters to partners and participation


Our Health Our Voice initiative

• A national effort to recruit African Americans to participate in comparative research studies• An effort to help generate a sufficient amount of

evidenced based information about black men and prostate cancer. • Features three studies

• RESPOND (NIH)• COMPPARE• Metastatic Prostate Cancer Project (Count Me In)



• Engagement with selected studies will include:• Information sessions about each of the three

studies • Opportunity for men to receive additional

communications.• Chapters will be provided training on each

study• Support for chapter engagement activities



To support these activities, the 100 will activate:

• Online Prostate Cancer Risk Assessment tool• Campaign promotional & media materials (PSAs)• Training materials• Web based training tools and curriculum • Event planning & staging support• Health fairs/Workshops• Survivor network & speakers bureau• Support groups• Public service announcements • Earned media opportunities• Evaluation reporting

• 100 Chapter network• Monthly webinars• February – Orientation• March – RESPOND• April – COMPPARE• May – MPCP



Launch during 100 Black Men Leadership Summit

• Dr. Nancy Mendenhall (COMPPARE PI) and Dr. Curtis Bryant (COMPPARE Co-Investigator) were special guests of the 100 Black Men Health and Wellness Committee
