INFANT BAPTISMS For children under 7 years of age, the sacrament is celebrated the FIRST Sunday of the month at 2:00 pm. The parents must register in the parish office at least 4 weeks prior to the baptism. Both parents and godparents are expected to attend one catechetical session in advance, on the Wednesday before the baptism, at 7:00 pm.

SACRAMENTS OF CHRISTIAN INITIATION Before being fully initiated into the sacramental life of the Church, children over the age of 7 will need catechetical prepa-ration through the RCIC process. Teenagers and adults will par-ticipate in separate RCIA processes. CONFIRMATION and COMMUNION For those already baptized, preparation for these Sacraments will take place according to the person’s age and knowledge of the Catholic Faith. For further information contact the Office of Faith Formation Program.

MARRIAGES Couples should contact the parish office at least six months in advance to make the proper ar rangements for the Sacrament of Matrimony.

FAMILY MASS AND RELIGIOUS EDUCATION CLASSES

On Sunday, May 20th will be the last 9:15 Family Mass and the final class in our Religious Education Program. We sincerely thank Ms. Lizbeth Pimentel, the volunteer catechists and the assistants who have worked with such great dedication and zeal throughout the year. We also remind all the students and their families to continue their faithful participation at Sunday Mass each week.

FROM THE PASTOR’S DESK Dear Parishioners,

This weekend we have the triple blessing of celebrating Sunday, the Lord’s Day, the first apparition of Our Lady of Fatima and Mothers’ Day. At our Mothers’ Day Dance last Saturday, I heard more than one comment that there was a good spirit. There was a spirit of gladness in thanksgiving for our mothers. This dance was made possible by the Mothers’ Day team led by Norma Jimenez who work hard each year to make the event a success. Thank you to this team and all the parish groups that make this events posible.

A spirit of gratitude and respect is earned by our mothers who not only carried us in the womb but also raised and nurtured us after birth. Let us thank our mothers for their prayers and support. It was on May 13, 1917 that the Blessed Mother appeared to three children: Lucia, Francisco and Jacinta. Our Lady of Fatima’s message was to pray and repent. The Blessed Mother continues to help us to be good disciples of her Son, Jesus. Let us give thanks for her presence in our lives and ask for the grace to follow her per-fect model and also the good example of all our mothers whom we honor today.

Queridos Feligreses: Este fin de semana tenemos triple bendiciónes celebrando el domingo, el día del Señor, la primera aparición de Nuestra Señora de Fátima y el Día de la Madre. En nuestro Baile del Día de la Madre el sábado pasado, escuché más de un comentario de que había buen espíritu. Hubo espíritu de alegría en acción de gracias para nuestras madres. Este baile fue posible gracias al equipo del Día de la Madre dirigido por Norma Jimenez, quienes trabajan arduamente cada año para que el evento sea un éxito. Gracias a este equipo y a todos los grupos parroquiales que hacen estos eventos posibles.

Un espíritu de gratitud y respeto han ganado las madres quienes no solo nos llevaron en su vientre sino que nos criaron y nos nutrieron después del nacimiento. Demos las gracias a nuestras madres por sus oraciones y gran apoyo. Fue el 13 de mayo de 1917 que la Santísima Virgen se apareció a tres ni-ños: Lucía, Francisco y Jacinta. El mensaje de nuestra Señora de Fátima fue orar y arrepentirse. La Santísima Virgen continúa ayudándonos a ser buenos discípulos de su Hijo, Jesús. Démosle gracias por su presencia en nuestras vidas y pidamos la gracia de seguir su modelo perfecto y también el buen ejemplo de todas nuestras madres a quienes honramos hoy.

TREASURES FROM OUR TRADITION In Ireland and the United Kingdom, Mother’s Day is over. “Mothering Sunday” was on the Fourth Sunday of Lent. Long ago, people were freed from work to travel on this day to the parish where they were baptized, their “Mother Church.” Often, people were reunited with their mothers on this day. Employers would release their workers and serv-ants for this visit. The American celebration, while based on this custom, really has to do with an anti-war movement of mothers in Civil War times. They crusaded for better sanitary conditions for their sons. When President Wilson in-stituted the first Mother’s Day in 1912, it was a day to fly the flag in honor of mothers whose children had died in bat-tle. Knowing the tradition is a good balance to our celebration today. We can enfold in prayer the mothers who have suffered the loss of their children in war. TRADICIONES DE NUESTRA FE El día 15 de mayo los campesinos de Ichocán, Perú adornan sus yugos, y las puertas de sus casas con el fruto de sus cosechas en honor a san Isidro Labrador. Muchos países Latinoamericanos celebran esta fiesta. En un continente donde la agricultura es tan importante no hay que sorprenderse de la importancia de este santo español del siglo XII. Además san Isidro se parece a mucha gente de Latinoamérica: es de padres campesinos, de familia pobre y religiosa, no fue a la escuela, quedó huérfano y se empleó como peón de campo, ayudando en la agricultura. Se casó con María la cual también llego a ser santa. Tuvieron un hijo. Los tres fueron reconocidos como piadosos y generosos. Gracias a Dios, la santidad se encuentra en todo tipo de persona. Los casados y padres y madres de fami-lia también llegan a ser santos. Después de su muerte en 1130 se descubrió que su cuerpo estaba milagrosamente inco-rrupto. En 1622 el Papa canonizó a este humilde campesino junto con algunos grandes religiosos como santa Teresa, san Ignacio y san Francisco Javier.

VOCATIONS - VOCACIONES You all are invited to pray for vocations. Parishioners will meet before our outdoor statue of Our Lady of Fatima to pray a rosary for a greater response to vocations among the faithful. The Rosary will be prayed in English on Tuesdays at 6:45 p.m.; in Spanish on Saturdays at 9:15 am.; and on the last Sunday of the month at 11:45 a.m. Bilingual rosary. Also our Parish Vocations Committee is Friday, May 4th at 8:10 pm in the Rectory. Let us pray for vocations.
