JESUS CHRIST, KING OF THE UNIVERSE NOVEMBER 24, 2019
¿Dónde esta este rey?
Cuando se habla de un rey, ordinariamente se piensa en un
hombre finamente vestido portando una corona. Un hombre
rodeado de escolta a quien todos hacen reverencia. Un hombre
sentado en un trono que da ordenes a sus súbditos. La imagen de
Jesús como rey dista mucho de esta. Si recordamos, Jesús no
nació en un palacio sino en un portal, no fue recostado en una
cuna sino en un pesebre. La entrada de Jesús a Jerusalén no es
propiamente como la de un rey a caballo, acompañado de
escoltas y trompetas, Jesús entra en un burrito, acompañado
solamente por gente sencilla que grita: “Hosanna al Hijo de
David, bendito el que viene en nombre del Señor. . .” Jesús es un
hombre, o un rey, que anuncia un nuevo Reino, una nueva forma
de vivir, pero es perseguido y cuestionado en su autoridad: “¿Con
que autoridad haces estas cosas? ¿Quien te ha dado esa
autoridad?” Un rey que es objeto de burlas y maltratos por parte
de los sacerdotes y políticos. Un rey que se despoja de su manto
y lava los pies a sus discípulos, un atarea confiada a los esclavos.
Un rey que es apresado y contados entre los malhechores. Un rey
que muere en la cruz.
Si, el evangelio nos habla del rey que “se sentara en su trono de
gloria” y congregara “ante el todas la naciones.” Esto no es lo
que llama la atención, sino que ese rey, Jesucristo, ha dejado ese
trono para ocupar el lugar del hambriento, del sediento, del
extranjero, del desnudo, del enfermo. Si nos animamos a
preguntar, como los magos de oriente, “¿Dónde esta el rey de los
judíos?”, no nos sorprendamos que nos digan: a las afueras de la
ciudad, en un pesebre. . . en el pobre, en el hambriento, en el
enfermo. . . “Yo les aseguro que, cuando lo hicieron con el mas
insignificante de mis hermanos, conmigo lo hicieron,” nos lo dice
Jesús, el rey

Where is this king?
When you talk about a king, you usually think of a finely dressed
man wearing a crown. A man surrounded by an escort who
everyone bows to. A man sitting on a throne who gives orders to
his subjects. The image of Jesus as king is far from this. If we
remember, Jesus was not born in a palace but in a stable, he was
not lying in a crib but in a manger. Jesus' entry into Jerusalem is
not properly like that of a king on horseback, accompanied by
escorts and trumpets, Jesus enters on a donkey, accompanied
only by simple people who shout: “Hosanna to the Son of David,
blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord…” Jesus is a
man, or a king, who announces a new Kingdom, a new way of
life, but is persecuted and questioned in his authority: “By what
authority do you do these things? Who has given you that
authority? ”A king who is subject to mockery and mistreatment
by priests and politicians. A king who takes off his mantle and
washes his disciples' feet, an endeavor entrusted to the slaves. A
king who is imprisoned and counted among the evildoers. A king
who dies on the cross.
Yes, the gospel tells us of the king who "will sit on his throne of
glory" and gather "before him all nations." This is not what
attracts attention, but that king, Jesus Christ, has left that throne
to occupy the place of the hungry, the thirsty, the foreigner, the
naked, the sick. If we dare to ask, like the three men from the
east, "Where is the king of the Jews?", Do not be surprised to be
told: on the outskirts of the city, in a manger. . . in the poor, in
the hungry, in the sick. . . “I assure you that, when they did it
with the most insignificant of my brothers, they did it to me,”
Jesus tells us, He is the King.

How to celebrate Thanksgiving in a Catholic way
This Thursday, we celebrate, Thanksgiving Day, a day that
recalls the first thanksgiving dinner in 1621 of a group of
pilgrims and natives, in which gave thanks to God for the
abundance of crops in the new world. The Archbishop of Los
Angeles (USA), Mons. José Gómez, explained why this holiday
is deeply Catholic.
The Archbishop stated that "before the 'first' celebration of
Thanksgiving in 1621 on American soil, on April 30, 1598, in
Texas, Don Juan de Oñate had officially declared a
'Thanksgiving Day', which was commemorated with the holy
sacrifice of the Mass."
Oñate, the Archbishop said, "did the most Catholic thing: to
celebrate the Eucharist, a word that comes from the Greek term
Eukaristein, and that means precisely‘ thanksgiving ’."
"This is the reason why, although Thanksgiving is not a feast to
keep in the Catholic calendar, the liturgical calendar of the
Church in the United States celebrates it with the solemnity of
two readings - one of the Old and the New Testament– and with
an emblematic reading of the Gospel of Luke: the passage of
Mary's 'Magnificat'.
Mons. Gómez stressed that "although the Virgin Mary lived it in
a unique and privileged way, we can all (...) raise our
thanksgiving to God because she has given us more than we
imagine or deserve, simply because, as our Mother tells us, “He
has done great works for us, and his name is holy."
"Therefore, Catholics must not only celebrate Thanksgiving
with deep spirit of prayer, thanks and joy, but the celebration of
this day should lead us to remember that our life as Catholics is
a constant thanksgiving. Through our acts of daily life, they
should all give glory to God, and especially through the
celebration of the Eucharist. "
In 2016, in a statement published by Mons. Gomez, now
President of the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops
(USCCB), and the former president of the institution, Cardinal
Daniel DiNardo, recalled that “in many parishes Thanksgiving
is also a day of service with volunteers preparing a dinner for
the less fortunate. ”
"We also remember in a special way the elderly and the needy,
as well as by anyone who is forced to spend this day alone,"
they added.
¿Como Vivir Thanksgiving o el Dia de Acción de
Gracias en clave católica?
Este Jueves, celebramos, Thanksgiving o el Día de Acción de
Gracias que recuerda la primera cena de agradecimiento en 1621
de un grupo de peregrinos y nativos, en la que se dio gracias a
Dios por la abundancia de cosechas en el nuevo mundo. El
Arzobispo de Los Ángeles (EEUU), Mons. José Gómez, explicó
por qué esta fiesta es profundamente católica.
El Arzobispo relató que "antes de la ‘primera’ celebración de
Thanksgiving en 1621 en suelo norteamericano, el 30 de abril de
1598, en Texas, Don Juan de Oñate ya había declarado
oficialmente un ‘Día de Acción de Gracias’, que fue
conmemorado con el santo sacrificio de la Misa".
Oñate, contó el Arzobispo, "hizo lo más propiamente católico:
celebrar la Eucaristía, una palabra que viene del término griega
Eukaristein, y que significa, precisamente ‘acción de gracias’".
"Esta es la razón por la cual, pese a que Thanksgiving no es una
fiesta de guardar en el calendario católico, el calendario litúrgico
de la Iglesia en los Estados Unidos lo celebra con la solemnidad
de dos lecturas –una del Antiguo y otra del Nuevo Testamento– y
con una emblemática lectura del Evangelio de Lucas: el pasaje
del ‘Magnificat’" de María.
Mons. Gómez resaltó que "aunque la Virgen María lo vivió de
manera única y privilegiada, todos (…) podemos elevar nuestra
acción de gracias a Dios porque nos ha dado más de lo que
imaginamos o merecemos, simplemente porque, como nos dice
nuestra Santa Madre, Él ha hecho obras grandes por nosotros, y
su nombre es santo".
"Por eso, los católicos no sólo debemos celebrar el Día de Acción
de Gracias con profundo espíritu de oración, agradecimiento y
alegría, sino que la celebración de este día nos debe llevar a
recordar que nuestra vida como católicos es una constante acción
de gracias. A través de nuestros actos de la vida cotidiana, que
deben todos ellos dar gloria a Dios, y de manera especial a través
de la celebración de la Eucaristía".
En 2016, en un comunicado publicado por Mons. Gomez, ahora
Presidente de la Conferencia de Obispos Católicos de Estados
Unidos (USCCB), y el antiguo presidente de la institución,
Cardenal Daniel DiNardo, recordaron que “en muchas parroquias
Acción de Gracias es también un día de servicio con voluntarios
que preparan una cena por los menos afortunados”.
“También recordemos de manera especial a los ancianos y a los
necesitados, así como por cualquiera que se vea obligado a pasar
este día solo”, agregaron.

Psalm 106:1 – Praise the Lord. Give thanks to the Lord,
for he is good; His love endures forever.
One of the great themes of the Bible is that we are to be a
people of Thanksgiving, not just one particular day of the
year, but as Christians, we are to be thankful daily.
Once again we’re at that wonderful time of year in which
we express our thanks and appreciation to God for all His
blessings in our lives as we celebrate Thanksgiving.
Some may look at Thanksgiving as a quick holiday before
the Christmas Season, but in reality, this is an extremely
meaningful time as we who have been created by God
show our gratitude.
Wishing you all a Happy Thanksgiving and may we
always praise the Lord and give thanks because his love
endures forever.

bueno; Su amor perdura para siempre.
Uno de los grandes temas de la Biblia es que debemos ser
personas agradecidas, no solo un día en particular del año,
sino como cristianos, debemos estar agradecidos a diario.
Una vez más, estamos en esa maravillosa época del año en
la que expresamos nuestro agradecimiento especialmente a
Dios por todas sus bendiciones en nuestras vidas mientras
celebramos el Día de Acción de Gracias.
Algunos pueden ver el Día de Acción de Gracias como
unas vacaciones rápidas antes de la temporada navideña,
pero en realidad, este es un momento extremadamente
significativo ya que nosotros, que hemos sido creados por
Dios, mostramos nuestra gratitud.
Les deseamos a todos un Feliz Día de Acción de Gracias y
que siempre alabemos al Señor y demos gracias porque su
amor perdura para siempre.
