PARISH STAFF

What does it mean to be an active Catholic? Those seeking to celebrate Marriage, have children baptized, or have a letter signed to serve as sponsors for Confirmation or Baptism should be parishioners and active, practicing Catholics. To be considered active, one must have been registered in the parish for at least three months, attend Mass regularly, and be committed to a stewardship of time, talent, and treasure. We encourage all parishioners to become active in one of the parish organizations.

In a community as large as Our Lady of Hope, our most effective means of verifying active participation is through the use of parish offertory envelopes or electronic giving, such as Faith Direct. If you choose not to participate in the support of the parish, or are unable to contribute at this time, please note your prayerful support on your envelope and place it in the weekly offertory. We will then be aware of your continued participation, and you will not be noted as "inactive" on our parish roster.

PARISH INFORMATION

Baptism & Baptism Class: Baptisms are held on Sundays at 1:30 p.m. The baptism class for parents is held one Saturday a month at 11:00 a.m. Please call the Parish Secretary to pre-register for the next available class. Sacrament of Matrimony: In accordance with the regulations of the Bishop of Arlington, couples must contact a priest and begin preparation at least six months prior to the wedding. Parish registration and active participation for a minimum of three months is required before preparation may begin. Couples who are living together will be asked to live separately during the preparation time as living together before marriage is sinful and harmful to the future marriage.

First Communion: For Children: Generally, First Communion is received when a child is in second grade. Preparation for First Communion is a two year process, and students must complete both first and second grade classes before receiving Holy Communion. Please contact the Religious Education Office with questions. Sacramental Preparation for Adults (RCIA): Adults who wish to receive Baptism, First Communion, and/or Confirmation are invited to attend the Inquiry Class on Thursday evenings. Please contact the Parish Secretary or visit the website to register.

“They shall not appear before the Lord empty-handed, but each with his own gift, in proportion to the blessing which the Lord, your God, has given to you.” Deuteronomy 16:16-17

The parish relies on your generosity; please remember to give to the offertory. Our thanks to all who regularly support our parish.

If you have been unable to make in-person weekly offerings, we prayerfully request that you consider signing up for Faith Direct and setting up your recurring offertory donation. Due to safety concerns as the coronavirus pandemic continues, the distribution of ashes will be modified according to guidance from the Holy See. Ashes will be sprinkled on top of the head. All those receiving ashes are expected to approach the minister wearing a mask. The minister will be wearing a mask as well.

As a reminder, those who are at greater risk of getting the virus due to age or compromising health conditions are urged to attend Masses by way of our live streaming service. They should avoid large gatherings, including the Mass. Let us keep this in mind as we continue to pray for a quick end to the pandemic. We continue to pray for all those who have died as a result of the virus as well as those who are sick.

The Ash Wednesday collection supports the Church in Central and Eastern Europe. Your donation today helps restore the Church and build the future in more than 25 countries still strug-gling to recover from former communist rule. Funds from this Collection support reconstruction, education, formation, and poverty outreach. Please be generous to the Collection today. For more information, please visit www.usccb.org/ccee. The praying of the Stations of the Cross will take place on Friday evenings at 7:00 p.m.

A leper came to Jesus and kneeling down begged him and said, “If you wish, you can make me clean.” Moved with pity, he stretched out his hand, touched him, and said to him, “I do will it. Be made clean.” The leprosy left him immediately, and he was made clean. Then, warning him sternly, he dismissed him at once.

He said to him, “See that you tell no one anything, but go, show yourself to the priest and offer for your cleansing what Moses prescribed; that will be proof for them.”

The man went away and began to publicize the whole matter. He spread the report abroad so that it was impossible for Jesus to enter a town openly. He remained outside in desert-ed places, and people kept coming to him from everywhere.

MARK 1:40-45

Ps. 32:1-2, 5, 11 R./ I turn to you, Lord, in time of trouble, and you fill me with the joy of salvation.

RESPONSORIAL PSALM

The LORD said to Moses and Aaron, “If someone has on his skin a scab or pustule or blotch which appears to be the sore of leprosy, he shall be brought to Aaron, the priest, or to one of the priests among his descendants. If the man is leprous and unclean, the priest shall declare him unclean by reason of the sore on his head.

“The one who bears the sore of leprosy shall keep his garments rent and his head bare, and shall muffle his beard; he shall cry out, ‘Unclean, unclean!’ As long as the sore is on him he shall declare himself unclean, since he is in fact unclean. He shall dwell apart, making his abode outside the camp.”

LEVITICUS 13:1-2, 44-46

Sunday Mass If at all possible, assuming the Priest can make it to the church, Mass will take place as scheduled.

Daily Mass When Loudoun County Schools are delayed or close because of inclement weather, the 8:30 a.m. Mass will be canceled.

Parish Office, Religious Education, and Parish Activities If Loudoun County Public Schools are closed for the day, close early, or cancel nighttime activities due to inclement weather (snow, ice, storm, etc.), then the Parish Office is closed and all parish activities, including Religious Education classes, Eucharistic Adoration, and confession are canceled and the building is closed.

Find our full Inclement Weather Policy at ourladyofhope.net/inclement-weather.

Brothers and sisters, Whether you eat or drink, or whatever you do, do everything for the glory of God. Avoid giving of-fense, whether to the Jews or Greeks or the church of God, just as I try to please everyone in every way, not seeking my own benefit but that of the many, that they may be saved. Be imitators of me, as I am of Christ.
