A Note From The Pastor…
Special thanks to the Knights of Columbus for their
generous $1,000 dona"on to assist with landscaping costs
here at the Parish. I’m so grateful for their service, and for all
that they do for our Parish, the Church, and the World.
Speaking of their service, the Knights will have their
Oktoberfest on Friday, October 9th.
Next month, October, is Respect Life Month, with next
Sunday being Respect Life Sunday. We will have a Holy Hour
next Sunday Evening, October 4th, from 7PM to 8PM in the
Church to pray for a greater respect for human life in the world.
This weekend is the Archdiocese of Chicago’s Seminary Appeal Weekend, and we
welcome Mr. Edward Dannemiller, IV to Our Lady of Humility. Edward is a
Pre-Theologian from the Archdiocese of Atlanta, preparing for the priesthood at
Mundelein Seminary. He will share a few words about the Seminary, and his calling
at all of the Masses. Please welcome him, and pray for him as he con"nues to
discern his call to the priesthood. We will have a Second Collec"on to help support
the Seminary System of the Archdiocese of Chicago.
On that note, this weekend’s readings remind us that we all have a par"cular
prophe"c role in the world. God does not call only “religious people” to preach: He
calls all of us, each one of us to evangelize, to share the Good News. At Mass, the
homily is a specific kind of preaching given by the Priest Celebrant, though from "me
to "me he may ask a Deacon to preach.
So the Priest ministers to all the bap"zed. But then, at the end of Mass, the
Deacon or Priest announces one of four possible dismissals: “Go forth, the Mass is
ended,” or “Go and announce the Gospel of the Lord,” or “Go in peace, glorifying the
Lord by your life,” or simply “Go in peace.” In all four cases, the bap"zed are being
sent forth out into the world to evangelize, to share the Good News of Jesus Christ
with others.
It’s interes"ng to note that churches which stress the Chris"an’s calling to share
the faith with others, are the churches which are the fastest-growing.
This week we pray for a greater respect for human life in the world, and that we
may all fulfill our calling to share the Good News of Jesus Christ with others.
Blessings,
Fr. Paul
