A Note From The Pastor…
Next Saturday, September 12th, Bishop Rassas will
preside at the 5PM Mass, and install me as your Sixth
Pastor here at Our Lady of Humility. All are invited to
a#end, and there will be a light Recep"on a%erwards.
As this Monday, September 7th, is Labor Day, we have
a long weekend. Hopefully, we will all take some "me to
relax, and spend more "me with our families, instead of
shopping from one Labor Day sale to another.
On that note, Pope Francis has been and is very
concerned about the state of the family in our world today.
Perhaps you’ve heard of some of the news coverage
regarding last October’s Extraordinary Synod on the Family in Rome (October 5th–19th,
2014). The theme of that Synod was, “Pastoral Challenges To The Family In The Context
Of Evangeliza!on.” A Synod is a gathering of Bishops represen"ng all of the Bishops of
the world. They advise the Pope regarding issues concerning the Church’s challenges
and ac"vi"es in the world.
Every three years there is a “World Mee!ng Of Families” which seeks to promote our
understanding of the beauty and importance of the family in the world. Next month in
Philadelphia, September 22nd–27th, 2015, there will be the next “World Mee!ng Of
Families”. The theme of that mee"ng is “Love Is Our Mission: The Family Fully Alive,”
emphasizing the impact of the love and life of families in our society. You will hear
about this in the news because Pope Francis will visit the United States, and will preside
at Mass in Philadelphia for the conclusion of the “World Mee!ng Of Families”.
Then, the following month in October (October 4th–25th, 2015), there will be
another Synod in Rome with the theme, “The Voca!on and Mission Of The Family In
The Church and In The Contemporary World.” In some ways, it is like a con"nua"on of
the Synod in Rome last October 2014.
Undoubtedly, you will also hear about this event in the news media as well. I shall
have more to say about these events as they unfold. For now, let us pray that the
Holy Spirit will enlighten and guide the Pope, and those who advise him. The family
today is facing challenges unheard of in "mes past. Let us pray for a greater love
united to the truth in all marriages and families.
Blessings,
Fr. Paul
